Kerry: On Sept. 11 We Were at Peace
The Hill's Blog ^ | May 30, 2008 | Andy Barr

Posted on 05/30/2008 1:23:32 PM PDT by jakerobins

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) believes that on September 11 "we were basically at peace."

Asked to clarify his remarks, specifically asking about the attacks on the U.S.S. Cole during Barack Obama campaign conference call, Kerry said, "well, we hadn't declared war," The Hill's Sam Youngman reports.

Asked if al Qaeda was a threat at the time, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee said, "well yes, obviously they were a threat. But, fundamentally we were not at war at that point in time."

Kerry also called John McCain "out of step with history and facts."

Man, I am really getting old fast. I am not seeing how we can be at peace and be attacked.
Somehow I was under the impression (mistakenly I guess) that if a country is attacked they at that moment at war.

If “basically at peace” means you don’t respond decisively when attacked repeatedly by the enemy (see also WTC, USS Cole, etc) , then the years 1993-2000 were “basically peaceful. Surrender Monkey nails it again!

Kerry also called John McCain "out of step with history and facts."

"But, but but...Jon, we're such good friends. You even wanted me for your VP...we've been through so much together, like helping Bill normalize relations with Vietnamese communists and throwing criticism at Bush on how Iraq was being conducted....and now you want to stab me in the back? Where did you learn that from...?"

Think about it - this is the way that all the leftists think about the war on terror:

if we could just ignore it, then we could pretend there isn’t a threat, but once you start fighting back, you acknowledge that there is a threat, and you are required to DO something.

Bush, by his “cowboy” attitude, embarrasses the “males” on the left by actually recognizing, stepping up and DOING something about the problem. They are exposed for the pvssies that they are.

In a perfect universe, John F’in Kerry would have gone to meet with the Taliban in Afghanistan before we liberated that country, and U.S. forces would have arrived to rescue Kerry (who would have probably been taken hostage), only to tragically find the junior Senator from Massachusetts the recipient of what is referred to commonly as ‘The Nick Berg Treatment’.

And Kerry would never have expected such a terrible end, after all, he went to Paris to meet with our sworn enemies while still wearing the uniform of the U.S. Navy, negotiating with the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong, who were undoubtedly pleased to see him.

Well, it was a nice fantasy anyway.

“Kerry also called John McCain “out of step with history and facts.”

I remember in 2004 McCain went out of his way to protect John Kerry’s “honorability” in the face of the Swifties.

In 2008 Kerry doesn’t show a modicum of restraint against backstabbing his onetime “pal.”

Really...The Cole, the Embassies, the 1993 hit on NYC, the Israel and Hamas conflict.

All this stuff happened during the DEM administration AND THEY DID NOTHING...

And then there's Bosnia (the boys were supposed to be home for Christmas), the famous Madeline and Kim dance, the famous Hillary and Mrs. what's her name kiss.

Bubba's run was just a popularity contest.

And Kerry's premise is cr**.

Asked to clarify his remarks, specifically asking about the attacks on the U.S.S. Cole during Barack Obama campaign conference call, Kerry said, "well, we hadn't declared war,"

Declarations of war are diplomatic courtesies used to politely inform sovereign nations that we intend to wage war upon them.

Congress refused to declare war on the Barbary Pirates in order not to give then the prestige of being treated like sovereign nations.

Likewise, a Declaration of War was never issued against the Confederate States of America as the Confederate States were not considerd "sovereign states" but merely "rebels".

Be that as it may, the U.S. was certainly "at war" during those two conflicts.

It it truly amazing how clueless a man can be and still be a U.S. Senator.

Actually, Leftists love war - just check the party affiliation of the Presidents that got us into WWI, WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam (not to mention piss-ant episodes [& presidents] like aspirin factories & Bosnia). Leftists are the most bloodthirsty people on the planet. They will kill you D-E-A-D, just for disagreeing with them, and 10 million of your neighbors with you, just to be sure - just ask the people of the ex-Soviet Union, and China, and Germany, and Cambodia, etc., etc.

And IMHO, American Leftists are not that much different from their Eurasian buddies (ever had your car keyed, or your tires slashed, for posting anything non-Leftist-non-PR on your bumper?). To the Leftists, it's a punishable crime, and they've appointed themselves the 'legal' judges & executioners.). IMO, you're better off trusting your kids & your life savings with a random stranger, than with a D@mocrat...

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) believes that on September 11 "we were basically at peace."

If one ignores Osama's 1098 declaration of war against us, along with the 1979 Iranian declaration of war and Saddam's blatant disregard of the settlement agreements he made after GW I and his attempt to kill GHWB. Then there were the embassy attacks and the Cole. Oh yeah, there was World Trade Center I as well.

If you push all the above out of your mind, then Kerry makes some sense. John would make such a good Zen Master -- He can clear his mind of everything so quickly and completely. At the same time, he is able to speak and make major pronouncements. Just Wow!!

Actually, we were at war with Iraq on Sept. 11. Remember, the Iraqi government agreed to abide by the Gulf War cease fire, but proceeded to break it repeatedly by shooting missiles at our aircraft in the no fly zones (remember those).

Under these conditions, the cease fire was voided by Saddam and the orignal authorization from Congrees stands (I don’t believe it was ever repealed). We were at war.

By Kerry’s logic, we were still “at peace” with Japan while they were blowing our ships out of the water on 12/7/41. Congress didn’t declare war until the next day. Were we “at peace” between the attack and that time? The ghosts of the 2000+ dead at Pearl Harbor would likely take issue with that “nuanced” view.
