REYKJAVIK, Iceland - A strong earthquake shook southern Iceland on Thursday, causing more than a dozen injuries as it rocked buildings in the capital, touched off landslides and forced evacuations in outlying towns, officials and local media said.
Government officials reported that 15 to 20 people from Selfoss, 30 miles southeast of the capital of Reykjavik, were injured in the quake, none of them seriously. They were taken to a local health center for treatment.
The U.S. Geological Survey said Selfoss was near the epicenter of the magnitude 6.1 quake, which hit at 3:46 p.m.
Sharp aftershocks were feared over the next few hours in the southwest of the country, and police traveled around the nearby town of Hveragerdi, 28 miles east of Reykjavik, with a bullhorn, advising residents to stay outdoors.

Karma
Karma”
wow! beat me to it.
So being under 300 years of dictatorial Danish rule, that let the Icelanders starve, wasn’t enough for you?
I bet you didn’t know that, did you?
Bjork bobblehead dolls are flying off the shelves.
Gore-bull warmin'
D*mn, I am soooooo last season!
Wrong.........Bush;s fault.
Still don’t know that.
I thought they were talking about how they treated Tibet. But I could be mistaken. I frequently am.
I’d like to get the professional, scientific opinion of established seismologist Sharin’ Stone.
Wow, “earthquakes in diverse places.” - Luke 21:11
Thankfully, it was shaken, and not stirred...
Well, look at the positive side — lots of free ice cubes :-)
“When Norway and Denmark formed the Kalmar Union in 1397, Iceland fell under the sovereignty of the King of Denmark. After the “Golden Age” of Iceland’s independence had ended, the situation went from bad to worse. The Danish kings brought about the Reformation of the Church in 1551, which resulted in Danish control over the Church, and confiscation of its great wealth. They replaced the Hansa and English trade with an oppressive Danish trade monopoly, and established absolute monarchy in 1662, thus transfering all governing power to Copenhagen. While this arrangement was very profitable for the Danish Crown, these changes were disastrous for the Icelandic economy. Further problems arose in the food supply due to cooling of the climate during the 16th and 17th centuries. The eighteenth century marked the most tragic age in Iceland’s history. “

That earthquake was in China, this one is in... Iceland.
Unless Iceland has done something to Tibet I don’t know about.
They also banned English shipping to the Americas. Bad year, 1397. Didn’t stop the English, though.
Exactly my point. I wasn't the one posting KARMA.
And Luke 21:25-26 too, I believe (VS26) refers to gorebull warming.
Verse 27 is a bonus! :-)
OK. I guess I was the one wasn’t understanding. Thanks.
Probably connected with the suboceanic vents that are warming the Arctic waters. :-)
“Probably connected with the suboceanic vents that are warming the Arctic waters. :-)”
My thoughts exactly. Glad you thought the same.
Glad you thought so, too.
I felt it here in Reykjavík, and it was stronger than the two that happened in 2000 (incidentially the first one on our Independence Day so everybody was outside and no one was hurt), but many concluded that those would not be enough to went the so called 100 year cycle of pressure that seems to build up in South Iceland and be released every aproximitely 100 years. A century ago people died and damages were heavy I believe so we were lucky to have them in few smaller ones instead of one big. We have been preparing for these erthquakes for long time.
Here you can see a video by an Icelandic TV host in Reykjavík during the quiake, and other videos marked the icelandic word for it jarðskjálfti (literally earthtremblings):

Earthquakes are expected there, being where it is. How are the buildings constructed now? Most of ours are wood and do fairly well in earthquakes. China, as we know, has a lot of concrete or concrete block construction which is not great in earthquakes unless massively reinforced.
Everything is made from concrete, except old houses who are out of wood, many of whom are in the small village of Eyrarbakki where many lost a lot of their furniture and so on.
But the concrete houses are made with strong standards both in the material of the iron bindings and the earthmaterial put into it. But last time, that is in 2000 a few old houses were severely damaged in the South of the country and propably had to be teared down or completely rebuilt, so I doupt many houses as such were damaged, but some outhouses were damaged and even collapsed. Also some bridges were damaged.
This mountain is right atop the source of the quike and here you can see rockslides in it during and after the quike and the resulting smoke:
