Chertoff: Hezbollah Makes Al Qaeda Look 'Minor League'
Fox News ^ | May 29, 2008

JERUSALEM — Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff warned Thursday that the radical Islamic group Hezbollah "makes Al Qaeda look like a minor league team," and poses the greatest threat to national security.

"Someone described Hezbollah like the A-team of terrorists in terms of capabilities, in terms of range of weapons they have, in terms of internal discipline," Chertoff told FOX News. "To be honest, they make Al Qaeda look like a minor league team.

"They have been more disciplined, and they've been in some senses more restrained in the kinds of attacks they carry out ... in recent years, but that's not something we can take for granted," he warned.

Chertoff, speaking before the opening of a two-day terrorism forum in Jerusalem, also warned of the threat of a terrorist smuggling a bomb aboard a passenger airplane.

Before 9/11, Hezbollah had killed more Americans than Al-Qaeda did but just like before 9/11 the weak leadership of this nation refuses to confront the Hezbollah backers and put them out of business.

Chertoff... also warned of the threat of a terrorist smuggling a bomb aboard a passenger airplane.

And What are the chances of them smuggling a more deadly bomb across an open Southern Border, Cherty?

A Federal law enforcement official once told me the same thing about Hezbollah that Chertoff says here.

Interestingly, he also pointed out that Hezbollah is much smarter than al-Qaeda is . . . mainly because they specifically make a point not to carry out terrorist attacks on U.S. soil.

He described Hezbollah as something more similar to a very well-armed organized crime family than a run-of-the-mill terrorist group.

I'm really glad to see Chertoff understanding the threats from Hezbollah but once in a while I would like to hear someone in this administration explain what they plan to do about it. If they're like the mob then the way to destroy the family is to knock off their bosses one by one and eventually there becomes an internal power struggle and they kill themselves off.

Hezbollah is trained and backed by Iran. More specifically, it's practically part of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

"Any Hezbollah member receiving military training is likely to do so at the hands of IRGC [the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps], either in southern Lebanon or in camps in Iran. The increasingly sophisticated methods used by IRGC members indicates that they are trained using Israeli and US military manuals; the emphasis of this training is on the tactics of attrition, mobility, intelligence gathering and night-time manoeuvres."

The FBI broke up a ring that tried to smuggle Hezbollah operatives into the United States. In testimony Tuesday to Congress on the FBI’s budget request, director Robert Mueller said most recent reports on terrorist smuggling do not pan out. However, he identified one that did: “This was an occasion in which Hezbollah operatives were assisting others with some association with Hezbollah in coming to the United States,” Mueller said. “That was an organization that we dismantled and identified those persons who had been smuggled in. And they have been addressed as well.” Mueller did not elaborate further, except to...

Anyone that doesn't know the Hezzies are more dangerous than AQ is asleep. Their current Iranian funding is est. over 1 billion, not to mention other sources.

I suspect the only reason they've not brought their _special_ events to our shores is that they're too closely associated with Iran. That might be too close to the edge. Blowing up Marines in Lebanon was okay though (1983?)...

Hey Chertoff, build that wall yet? Stopped the invasion of the USA by illegal aliens yet? Freed and pardoned Ramos and Compean yet? Cracked down seriously on all the illegal aliens already in the USA yet?
