Sharon Stone apologises for China quake 'karma' remark

Hollywood star Sharon Stone has apologised for suggesting China's earthquake was bad "karma" for its handling of Tibet, but Christian Dior on Thursday dropped her from its local ads amid a public uproar.

The 50-year-old US actress offered to help with relief efforts after the May 12 quake that killed nearly 70,000 people, in an effort to smooth over tensions sparked by her controversial comments at the Cannes Film Festival last week.

"My erroneous words and deeds angered and saddened the Chinese people, and I sincerely apologise for this," she said in a statement issued by Dior China and sent to AFP on Thursday.

"I'm willing to participate in any earthquake relief activity and to do my utmost to help Chinese people affected by the disaster," she added.

But Dior said Stone -- who promotes the French luxury brand's anti-ageing skin-care line, among other products -- would no longer appear in its ads in China.

"In light of the negative reaction that Sharon Stone's inappropriate remarks have triggered, Dior China has decided to immediately cancel and stop any advertisements, marketing campaigns and commercial activities associated with Sharon Stone," it said......."

Wow, a real apology. I didn't think anyone knew how to do that anymore. Where was the ubiquitous “If I offended anyone” qualifier.

Extraordinary. Just think of all the things she could have said, and she chose to say something really stupid.

Another wonderful example of that now famous axiom:

“I’m famous, therefore, I’m smart.”

Good Lord, what a lunkhead.

to quote Tim Robbins: “if you would disagree with this administration you can and will be punished."

o... sorry that was directed towards the Bush administration, not the Chinese. After all as socialist actors we love China.......don't we Sharon.

You know Sharon as soon as you get your mind right the Chinese will let you make money again.

Even more so if you read a detailed bio of Stone. She's had some amazingly bad things happen to her during her lifetime, you would think that she wouldn't be so callous towards the suffering of others.

Sharon Stone

"..Mensa controversy

For many years it was believed that Sharon Stone was a member of Mensa,[31] but in April 2002, she admitted she was not, and had never been, a member of the high-IQ society.[32] Jim Blackmore of Mensa said, "It's delightful to finally see Ms. Stone admit that she's not and never has been a member of our society. But then she goes on to say, 'I went to a Mensa school.' Not so."[32] Blackmore said that would not have been possible as there have been no Mensa schools since the early 1960s.[32].."

She IS pretty old..old enough to go to a "Mensa School". Maybe Alzheimers is kicking in.

I agree. This is the standard press release for most wool-headed movie queens. Biographers are still trying to convince us that Marilyn Monroe was actually brilliant and Jayne Mansfield was a genius. All you have to do is read their biographies and you know this isn’t so.

“My erroneous words and deeds angered and saddened the Chinese people, and I sincerely apologise for this,”

That sounds like those phony statements prisoners of war were forced to sign by the NVA. Looks like Sharon has been to reeducation camp!

Now, if we can just get her to apologize for her horrendous remake of “Gloria.”

Apparently, there are two things Sharon Stone can’t keep closed - her legs and her mouth.

First of all, Sharon Stone - 50???!!!!!! I don't think so! Try 59--at least!

It seems to me a certain Christian minister was pilloried endlessly for merely admonishing his congregation that God would pass judgement upon America for her immorality by removing His protection and allowing natural disasters to strike. Are we hearing the same outrage against the pea-brained Sharon Stone for her statement by any of the MSM? Or will we be served yet more of the same hipocracy from the self-annointed arbiters of fairness and justice?

It’s kind of a squirmy apology, to me. “My erroneous words hurt people ....” I guess it’s better than nothing, but I look for “I am sorry.” Maybe I’m shooting for the moon.

It’s a bit like, “My SUV killed the guy, and I apologize for it.”

I don’t think she was being callous at all. Her original remarks relect sensitivity toward the afflicted people and criticism of the Chinese government. Also a crude understanding of karma.

According to who - the same person who said she was a member of MENSA? I wouldn't believe unless I saw the birth certificate.

I've seen picture of her before her three hour makeup job and she looks just like those wrinkled, haggared pictures of Hillary without her makeup.
