Reader A.F. e-mails the chart of the day. He writes: “Michelle, I work peripherally for the insurance industry and get the industry’s magazine National Underwriter. The May 8 issue contains a cover story titled: “Workers Comp for Illegal Aliens Sparks Debate Among the States.” A box within the text describes which states already provide WC for illegal aliens: “CA, FL, NV, NY, TX and UT expressly include illegal aliens in the WC coverage” —- UTAH??? So you can come to the US, work illegally, complain of headaches caused by a little slip and fall and you can go on drinking Dos Equis with my tax dollars for the rest of your natural life. What a country!”
I’ve mentioned the illegal alien workers’ comp scheme before in immigration speeches over the years and have been met with skepticism. The trend has only exploded since I first reported on it.

BTW, I watched one illegal walk right off the roof ridge and fall to the ground in Boca Raton, Florida.
It was his first day on the job and his first hour or so.
Stood on the roof across from him and watched him walk right across the entire ridgeline and off without missing a beat.
Broke his left leg.
His claim was denied because of eyewitness testimony that contradicted his sworn testimony.
Surprise, he was an illegal.
Think he knew the law? - you bet he did.
What did she do to piss you off. Was it her take on illegals? She wrote Invasion years ago, and has been on the bleeding edge of the movement for even longer.

Work comp for most employers comes from insurers or self funded, not from tax dollars.
I can give you two reasons why illegal aliens should be covered under worker’s comp.
1) Worker’s Comp insurance in expensive. Not covering them gives a company a big incentive for hiring illegals.
2) If they are not covered, employers can hire illegals rather than dealing with known safety issues. Covering them makes the employer deal with safety issues.
I’m not sure that the outrage is that they get worker’s comp. The outrage is that they would be hired in the first place.
Worker’s comp really isn’t their to protect the employee. It’s really there to protect the employer. It basically protects the employer from getting sued by the employee when he is involved in an accident.
New Jersey also provides WC benefits to illegal aliens, which include temporary disability payments, an award for permanent disabilty - whether partial or total and also payment for 100% of authorized medical expenses.
No, he’s complaining that they are here, period. And sucking up tax dollars is just icing on the cake.
The truth is, most of the millionaires we send to Washington care very little about you and me and don’t mind bankrupting the country in the process with their various self-serving agendas.

In New Jersey employers are required to maintan WC coverage on all employees regarless of status. Should an employer fail to maintain coverage and a worker is injured, then the state picks up the tab via an uninsured employer’s fund.
That’s a pretty bad solution. Mine is to treat him once on the business owner’s dime, then deport his illegal rear end back to Mexico/Guatemala/ElSalvador/Haiti/Ireland/Africa or wherever the hell he came from. And charge the SOB for his transportation.

I went in on a venture with my brother. He insisted on hiring Invaders. When one of his Invaders saw the end of the job coming, he cut himself on a saw. Although my brother paid for his medical expenses, the Invader filed a Workers Comp complaint here in California. The Invader went to a Chiropractor (for a cut) and my brother is liable for all expenses when the Invader decides he is cured.
It has been 5 months now, Just a note to all of you that place monetary values over your own country.
I can give you 2 reasons why illegal aliens should be deported:
1. They broke the law by entering this country illegally.
2. They are breaking the law by staying here illegally.
As if someone with a valid tourist or work visa gets up at seven in the morning in order to hang out-for the next five to six hours-in front of a Home Depot drinking Cuervo Gold and waiting for a shady contractor to pick him up.

Better the illegals should get Worker’s Comp, as if they didn’t, greater would be for the employers advantage in hiring them.
If their employers are paying their WC and the employee is on the books then they should be covered. Could lead to an audit though.

You are welcome. In addition to amusing myself and making a point, I also stirred 3 others enough that they felt compelled to post a reply.
Since I'm in the sharing mood today I will even help you out with a plan.
1. Call doctors office and schedule surgury.
2. Have proctologist remove stick from your rectum.
3. Go to a Mariners game and suck down a $6 beer.
So point away. I gave two good reasons why they should be insured. You have said nothing to refute either. If you want to have in intelligent discussion, I’m ready to go.
I have no problem with enforcing the immigration laws and I also have no problem enforcing the employment law. If you hire them, you’d better pay the insurance.
Here’s a third reason to chew on. If you hire someone to fix your roof and a member of their crew falls off and get hurt what happens? If they are not covered under worker’s comp, guess who is going to pay. And don’t think their status is going to save you.
I have no problems with either suggestion but I do not favor shady employers picking up cheap illegal labor and saving even more money not picking up WC insurance.
Worker’s Comp is compromise.
Before WC employers could deny liability using a number of defenses. The law enable an injured employee to get treatment without filing a lawsuit. As a compromise, they gave up claims of pain and suffering and punitive damages.
The law has its problems and tends to change over the years but over all helps the employer and employee.
Each state has the own WC laws so the specifics BTW.
I’ve worked for the WC Court here for over 30 years, I can assure you that legal American’s pull all kinds of shady tricks to try to get comp benefits, not just the illegals.
