A group of Muslim workers allege they were fired by a New Brighton tortilla factory for refusing to wear uniforms that they say were immodest by Islamic standards.
Six Somali women claim they were ordered by a manager to wear pants and shirts to work instead of their traditional Islamic clothing of loose-fitting skirts and scarves, according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a civil liberties group that is representing the women.
The women have filed a religious discrimination complaint with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
"For these women, wearing tight-fitting pants is like being naked," said Valerie Shirley, a spokeswoman for the Minnesota chapter of CAIR. "It's simply not an option."
CAIR issued a press release calling on Mission Foods to reinstate the women in their jobs. However, the group declined to disclose the names of the women and would not make them available for interviews Tuesday.

Getting their “scarves and loose fitting skirts” hung up in a tortilla press might “cure” their phobia about safety regulations. Dumb women.

Muslims should be flocking to the semiconductor industry. Bunny suits would seem to be quite in keeping with the Muslim “ethic.”

Time for ‘New Brighton Muslims’ to find work more accomodating to their ‘religion’.

The Commission ought to find the factory guilty and sentence them to provide one-way tickets back to Somalia for these poor, downtrodden women.

Idiocy. This is obviously a safety issue. I doubt the uniforms are skin-tight.
If they want to retain their Somalian culture, I suggest they do so in Somalia.
And, by the way, why are they working outside the home? Is that traditional in Somali culture? Or is this just another example of trying to subvert our culture?

Don't miss the comments posted at the source page! Here's one:
You can bet that if one of these women had their loose clothing get caught in any type of machinery that they would be suing this company out of business. My grandfather came to this country in 1907. He said the first thing you did was speak English. The second thing you did was blend in and become an AMERICAN.

Were these women told of the dress code before they were hired or not. If so, then they need to go pound sand if not the owners of the company need to get un-PC and lay down the stipulations of the job. Enough of this conforming to the Muzzie-Slime so called code of ethics,

The women have filed a religious discrimination complaint with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The muzzies are subtly trying to merge church and state in accordance with Islam. The fallacy in this statement is they are not being prevented from worshiping since a business is not meant to be a place of worship.

Simple compromise. They can wear their muslim outfits as long as they agree to transfer to the line making chicharrones.

I don't know if they are to work around machinery with moving parts such as pulleys, but if so, OSHA regs prohibit the wearing of loose clothing around them..
That is, unless being Muslim is classified as a disability in which case the company is required to modify or remove the equipment in order to accommodate the employee. Companies have moved to foreign locations because of some of these federal rules.

I have noticed we Americans have a great deal of tolerance, hospitality, and forgiveness.
With these people, its growing very thin. There is only so much we can accomodate while we are being continually slapped in the face.

Nobody wants to see a Somali woman au naturel.
A Marilyn Monroe they ain’t.
On second thought, nobody wants to see Helen Thomas au naturel. Ugh! Just the thought of it makes me sick.
Now, if one of these Somali women got their sack-bag dresses caught in a taco making machine, what they say, besides “Help. I’ve got my damned jihab stuck in the machine.”
No wonder some Mexican food tastes strange.

Wear the uniform. If it is a short sleeve shirt, the women can wear a long sleeve shirt under the uniform shirt that contrast the uniform. They can still wear the head scarf there is no problem with that, more than likely they had to wear a hair net if they are around food. A hijab or burka will work even better. Also just how tight are those pants? Get the next size up if they are that freaking tight!!!!!

You are free to worship, dress or believe anything you want. Employers are also free to fire your sorry arse if you don’t obey their company rules. If the company has a dress code, then it is none of the government’s business even if that includes firing some employee for not following the dress code. The government forcing an employer to keep a disruptive employee is violating the rights of the employer.

The problem with that is that the people running the government now do not think employers have any rights.
Their belief is that only the ggovernment has rights. The peasants only have the privileges that the government grants them.
Unfortunately this belief is largely reinforced by idiot voters.

There are plenty of stores that sell long tunics that could cover up the pants. Pakistani women wear them all the time. Slap a hijab on top and call it good. Heck most lab coats are just as long as this. These women are just crybabies.

My knowlede of Mohammedan rituals is scant; however, I thought it was forbidden for women to be unaccompanied outside the home or to work outside the home. Seems to me that there is selective religion at play here.
If you don’t follow your own rules, stay the F home, like the obedient dummy that you are supposed to be.
