(Burlington, NC) Twelve men were arrested in connection with charges of kidnapping and assaulting three women Saturday and authorities will still trying to sort out the "convoluted mess" on Sunday.
The women say they were held against their will at gunpoint in a mobile home at Seamster's Mobile Home Park at 2111 N.C. 49 North, near Sandy Cross Road, north of Green Level, overnight Saturday. A list of names and charges against the men remained unavailable Sunday, as deputies and interpreters were still interviewing the suspects and victims.
At least four men had been formally charged with a range of crimes, including assault, sexual battery, possession of fictitious identification and prostitution, Randy Jones, Alamance County Sheriff's Department's public information officer, said Sunday.
"This is a convoluted mess," Jones said. "There's still a lot of questions and a lot of people to talk to. Seventy-five percent of these people don't speak English."
Events unfolded in the early morning hours Saturday when several Hispanic men outside Rincon Latino Club at 522 Hawkins Street in Burlington forced one of the women into a vehicle at gunpoint and sped away. The other two women followed the men to the mobile home park where the first woman was forced inside a mobile home. While outside, they were held at gunpoint to prevent them from calling law enforcement. When they were able to escape around 4 a.m., they called for assistance from a nearby convenience store.
Deputies, the Sheriff's Office special response team and members of Haw River police surrounded two mobile homes there. At about 6:30 a.m., six Hispanic men surrendered and were arrested from a first trailer. Fifteen minutes later, six more Hispanic men were arrested from the second mobile home without incident. The women, also Hispanic, weren't injured during the kidnapping and were interviewed by detectives and interpreters Saturday. The mobile homes were searched Saturday and, on Sunday, detectives were still confirming names of those arrested.
| We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture. Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende. For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America. Our future cannot be separated from the future of Latin America. As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico. George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000. |
Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:
In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. My Bush Epiphany By Lawrence Auster
Soooooo, what do the speak? Urdu? Ga? !kung? Hmong?
“There’s still a lot of questions and a lot of people to talk to. Seventy-five percent of these people don’t speak English.”
Swedish? Finnish? Russian?
Couldn’t be Spanish could it? I mean these are Bushs’ family values folks ain’t they?
Bush was just stating the obvious. We have 27,000 in our county, but most never come in conversational contact, as they are farm/ag workers.
27,000?
“Bush was just stating the obvious. We have 27,000 in our county, but most never come in conversational contact, as they are farm/ag workers.”
Are you saying 27 million? But most DO NOT work in agriculture. Only about 3 %. Some of the Mexican Drug cartel pot farm growers have been found with legal green cards. About half are on social services via their anchor babies, etc.
“Illegal immigrants can be found working in many sectors of the U.S. economy. About 3 percent work in agriculture; 33 percent have jobs in service industries; and substantial numbers can be found in construction and related occupations (16 percent) and in production, installation and repair (17 percent).(Total 69%)

We could just outsource mexican speaking prisons to Mexican prisons. Wonder how they’d like that?
I don’t speakeee eeeenglish.
It’s gotta be Swedish. Swedes are overrunning the culture. It started in the beetfields and has spread to the abattoirs and factories. They’re gonna put us all out of work and make us eat cheese.
What a non-story. Non-names, non-English, non-legal and non-gratis.
Why not just have a computer write them?
That leaves about 30-31% in prison/jail.... sounds about right.

Well, actually, it’s quite clear what language they spoke, although the reporter put off revealing the facts until the last paragraphs:
“six Hispanic men surrendered and were arrested from a first trailer. Fifteen minutes later, six more Hispanic men were arrested from the second mobile home without incident. The women, also Hispanic. . . .”
It’s noticeable that there’s no rape charge, at least not yet, but there is a prostitution charge. I suspect (but am only guessing), that they may have been running a prostitution operation from the trailers, and maybe one of the women tried to run away or offended her pimp in some way.
If so, that’s not a great social contribution to our country either.

They’d probably appreciate it. They’ve been losing a lot of cops down there to the drug cartels and need replacements.
There are at least 10 times the 27,000 illegals in this country and most do not do farm labor. Bush may have been stating his opinion of the situation- but he never seemed to grasp the real situation either.
Correction- I don’t know why I said 10 times the 27,000 figure- the actual number is closer to 27 million. That should be a real scary number to anyone
In my COUNTY there are 27,000, not the country..which may have 27 million, however the situation was long out of control before 2000 and there was no going back. It’s like closing the barn door after the cows are out, only the door is on the mexican side..lol The fence sounds good, but I doubt it will now make the difference it would have 20 yrs ago.
what part of “my county” do you not understand...not country, but my county!
Yeah!....those damn Swedes!!
“what part of my county do you not understand...not country, but my county!”
My apologies.
