American political scientist and fierce critic of Israel, Prof. Norman Finkelstein, was denied entry to Israel and deported from the country early Saturday morning. Officials said that the decision to deport Finkelstein was connected to his anti-Zionist opinions and fierce public criticism of Israel around the world.
Finkelstein landed at Ben-Gurion International Airport at 2 a.m. Friday morning and was immediately taken for questioning by the Immigration Authority and the Interior Ministry. He arrived in Israel from Europe, where he was on a speaking tour. According to his Web site, his last talk was at the University of Amsterdam.
His lawyer, Michael Sfarad, said he was interrogated for several hours and told that he would not be allowed into the country on security grounds. He was held overnight and forced to board a flight to Europe early Saturday morning.
Sfarad said that Finkelstein arrived in Israel on a private trip to visit a friend. He said it was possible that the American professor, who last visited Israel two years ago, would appeal the decision.
A son of Holocaust survivors and a harsh critic of Israel, Finkelstein was denied tenure last year at DePaul University in Chicago.
Finkelstein reportedly said that Israel uses the Holocaust as an excuse for the fight against anti-Semitism and has managed to trick Germany into paying exorbitant sums of money in compensation. He also called Holocaust survivor and scholar Eli Wiesel a "clown prince."
Prof. Alan Dershowitz of Harvard was active in campaigning against Finkelstein. His most recent book, Beyond Chutzpah: On the Misuse of Anti-Semitism and the Abuse of History, is largely an attack on Dershowitz's The Case for Israel. In his book, Finkelstein argues that Israel uses the outcry over perceived anti-Semitism as a weapon to stifle criticism.

A student told his professor he was going to "Palestine" to "fight for freedom, peace and justice,"—Orwellian leftist code words that mean "murder Jews."
Using that criteria, Obama will also be denied entry.
Obama is strange, deracinated man, claiming roots were he has none, abandoning the roots he has. In many ways he exhibits an admirable character, but he is naive, opportune and faithless in his allegiances. It would require a genius of the stature of Shakespeare to do his character justice. None of this makes him a suitable candidate for president.

When I saw the headline, “US Professor Denied Entry into Israel,” my first guess was Noam Chomsky. But Finkelstein would possibly have been second on my list.

It's an old amalgam technique. If you look back in history, you'll see that the Catholic Church was constantly stifling criticism by calling anti-Christian all attempts to comment on the Church's abuses.
I am really afraid for Israel's survival. I think that they have a tendency to ignore even friendly criticism by labeling it antisemitism. It doesn't help their chances.

Fecalstein is just upset that Wiesel survived. He is jealous that Wiesel maintained his humanity and dignity in an impossible situation. Maybe he can write a book with David Irving and they can go on tour together in Iran?

Finkelstein tries to convince readers that the “Holocaust Industry” exists as an ideological weapon to gain unqualified support for Israel against the Palestinians.
Finkelstein routinely compares Israelis with Nazis and told the Jeruslem Post that he “can’t imagine why Israel’s apologists would be offended by the comparison” (Aug 28, 2000).
While Finkelstein expresses nothing but contempt for Israel, he lavishes praise on the terrorist group Hezbollah. In a letter posted on his Web site he states, “I did make a point of publicly honoring the heroic resistance of Hezbollah to foreign occupation ...Their historic contributions are...undeniable.” He appeared on the official Hezbollah television network al-Manar, because, he said, “If I’m willing to appear on CNN – the main propaganda organ for America’s terrorist wars–why shouldn’t I appear on al-Manar?”
Anti-Zionists and anti-Semites often reference Finkelstein's books despite the fact that they are marred by factual inaccuracies, omissions and selective mention of fact. Much of his work is seemingly shaped by his antagonism toward the Jewish establishment and his avowed anti-Zionism. Thus, he routinely accuses pro-Israel writers of being "frauds" and "plagiarists," and labels their work "hoaxes."

I never said I approved of this guy - just pointed out that Isreal was proving his point in this situation. Such moral posturing, preening, and assuming the right to “hate the hater” is pretty much the same thing he does. Two sides of the same coin. We, in the US, turn away people who we consider to pose a threat to our national security and Israel, of course, has that very same right.
There is no "moral posturing, preening". Finkstein praises Hezbollah and pontificates on behalf of Hamas, both organizations committed to the destruction of the State of Israel.
There is no reason whatsoever that Israel should allow this animal into the country. And claiming Israel's decision to be "moral posturing" and "preening" is sophistry.
