Obama inching ever closer to nomination
Updated Wed. May. 21 2008 3:06 PM ET
CTV.ca News Staff

Barack Obama, having now secured a majority of pledged delegates, is inching ever closer to securing the Democratic presidential nomination.

Obama, including Tuesday's primary victory in Oregon, has won 1,642 pledged delegates in primary and caucuses held so far -- enough for a majority.

Overall, including superdelegates, Obama has a total of 1,956 delegates. Clinton, including superdelegates, has 1,776, reports The Associated Press.

Obama is expected to climb within 60 delegates of the 2,026 delegates needed to clinch the nomination after results from the Oregon primary are fully counted Wednesday.

Obama currently has a 58-42 per cent margin over Hillary Clinton in Oregon with 88 per cent of the vote counted.

In Kentucky, Clinton easily won that primary by about 35 points over Obama. With all of the votes counted, she had 65 per cent support, while Obama had 30 per cent.

"There's only a handful of tiny contests to go," Allan J. Lichtman, presidential historian for American University, said Wednesday. "The basic shape of this race is not going to change.

Lichtman, speaking to CTV's Canada AM, said the only thing left to decide is if Obama will create a "dream ticket" by picking Clinton to run as vice-president.

However, despite the odds, Clinton has vowed to continue her bid for president.

"Neither Senator Obama nor I will have reached that magic number when the voting ends on June 3," she said Tuesday night in Kentucky.

"And so, our party will have a tough choice to make -- who's ready to lead our party at the top of our ticket, who is ready to defeat Senator McCain in the swing states and among swing voters."

Both candidates are spending Wednesday campaigning in Florida.

Clinton, counting results from Florida and in Michigan, claims she is ahead of Obama in the popular vote.

But the Democratic Party disqualified the two states because they changed their primary dates without authorization.

As a result, Clinton is pushing for the party to count votes from the two primaries.

Neither Obama nor Clinton campaigned in those states, and Michigan did not even have Obama on its ballot.

Obama is planning to spend several days in Florida -- a state which will be a prime battleground in the fall campaign against Republican John McCain.

The three remaining primaries are Puerto Rico, Montana and South Dakota.

Operation CHAOS.

The Maha suggests Hillary sue for the nomination.

Do not doubt him.

“Operation CHAOS.

And the Clinton’s people listen to The Maha. The Maha addressed the Super Delegates today. Operation CHAOS is brilliant even though I doubted it at first.

The Clintons have a very dirty bombshell to drop at the convention. Bet on it.

Operation CHAOS is brilliant even though I doubted it at first.

If the Maha hadn't launched it, Obama would have been the nominee months ago, and halfway along the road to sainthood by now. None of the controversies, gaffes and revelations we have seen in recent weeks would have happened and been reported.

You are exactly right. Events, both foreign and domestic, between now and the election, are going to influence things in ways we can’t imagine. e.g.:Israel’s actions will wake up the American people in a positive way in National Security matters. By Nov. , people will be demanding more domestic oil production, nuclear power plants, etc.

That is what concerns me. It could be a formidable ticket.

This is bit off-topic, but why don't we seize the opportunity provided by the MSM's deification of Obama to permanently de-claw the IRS and get God back into the public school classrooms?

After all, not only will the next president automatically have war-time, Commander in Chief responsibilities, but this post (<-click), while addressing taxes, helps to explain why rookie government "leaders" like Obama are actually in contempt of the Constitution that they have sworn to defend, foolishly following in the footsteps of FDR's dirty federal spending politics.

In fact, the article referenced below shows that Obama is the #1 federal spending proposer in the Senate for '08; Clinton is #2.

Obama, a big-shot federal spender
And this post (<-click) exposes how corrupt justices then began using FDR's politically correct license to ignore the 10th A. to unlawfully stifle traditional family values, including the USSC's scandalous legalization of abortion in Roe v. Wade. Note that the post first references two non-abortion cases in order to show Roe v. Wade in a different, troubling perspective.

In fact, consider that the states have the constitutional power (10th A.) to authorize public schools to lead non-mandatory (14th A.) classroom discussions on the pros and cons of evolution, creationism and ID, as examples, regardless that atheists, separatists, pagan-minded judges and the MSM are misleading the people to think that doing such things in public schools is unconstitutional.

The people need to reconnect with the Founder's division of federal and state government powers. The people then need to wise up to the major problems that, since the days of FDR's dirty politics, Congress has not only not been operating within the restraints of the federal Constitution, particularly where constitutionally unauthorized federal spending is concerned, but the USSC has wrongly been ignoring the 10th A. protected power of the states to address religious issues.

The bottom line is that the people need to get in the faces of judges, demanding that judges uphold their oaths to defend the 10th A. protected powers of the states to address religious issues - or get off the bench. The people also need to send big-shot, Constitution-ignoring federal spenders like Obama home as opposed to trying to send people like him to the Oval Office. The people need to get in the faces of members of Congress, demanding a stop to constitutionally unauthorized federal spending while appropriately lowering federal taxes - or get out of DC.

Lincoln put it this way.

"We the People are the rightful master of both congress and the courts - not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution." --Abraham Lincoln, Political debates between Lincoln and Douglas, 1858.

But in reality, when talking to a lunatic without having first bombed him into submission, the only possible result is appeasement.

The cartoon was from when Obama won straight primaries, wasn't it? Not the more recent ones, where the scores would be almost the opposite.

Hillary stay in until the streets of Denver burn! Leak all your nasty research about Obama out there to destroy the man who would steal your coronation. Talk about his wife, his pastor, his friends, talk to his mother, talk about flag lapel pins, putting your hand on your heart during the pledge of allegiance or national anthem, talk about bowling scores, Barry’s bed wetting, terrorists in the Lincoln bedroom, speak of his middle name, his inexperience, his rumored affairs, tell how he and Chris Mathews are lovers...set phasers to kill. Don’t concern yourself if it alienates the black community from the democrat party, they’ll be back. This is your right - the nerve of those good ol boys telling you to not worry your pretty little head about the presidency. How dare they tell you to back to the kitchen, that politics is for men. Make them pay, make Richardson regret the day he stabbed you in the back, make em all pay. They said they were your friends, now make them ex-freinds (wink wink!) Never give up not until after Denver, and then don’t give up. Destroy the party that snubbed you - make em pay!

"Do you care?"

No. Not at all. I'm nonpolitical, until we see some morally conservative choices. We goody-two-shoes peasants will survive and watch from the sidelines, as oil goes higher, the dollar lower, and the current corrupt and family-hating regime shrink to a pipsqueak for lack of revenues to feed it.

When we no longer hear or see domineering hens clucking, we'll know that feminized government is gone and peace, near. ;-)

Duncan Hunter for President in 2012 or no deal!

"Clinton, counting results from Florida and in Michigan, claims she is ahead of Obama in the popular vote."

Again, she wants to change the rules when it is convenient to do so. I thought the number to reach to win the democrat nomination is delegates equaling 2026. Now she wants to capriciously say its the number of votes, and this is like Zimbabwe, or emancipation of the slaves, or women's right to vote.

Moreover, since Rush Limbaugh's Operation Chaos has effectively corrupted the Clintons vote and delegate tally, what would stop Obama forces from suing to challenge her claims that she has more votes? Some of Rush's Operation Chaos Commandos who followed Rush's orders abd voted for the Clintons are probably in dire need of therapy after courageously holding their nose and casting their precious vote for the likes of this lying crook Clinton will on all counts not vote for her in the national election.

So Obama should sue to toss those votes out. Adding more chaos.

Again, she wants to change the rules when it is convenient to do so.

The "rules" are simply what the DNC made up ad hoc to punish state Democrat organizations that didn't do what the Central Committee ordered. If anything you should be championing the right of the states to vote for the candidate of their choice at the time of their own choosing. This is certainly a lot more "democratic" than anything the Democrat party is known for.

St. Peter is at the Pearly Gates checking up on the people waiting to enter Heaven.

He asks the next one in line, 'So, who are you, and what did you do on Earth?'

The fellow says, 'I'm Barack Obama, and I was the first black to be elected President of the United States '

St. Peter says, 'The U.S.? A black President? You gotta be kidding me! When did this happen?'

And Obama says, 'About twenty minutes ago.'

Well a normal political party would do that, and I agree. You are so right. I champion all votes counted. But we are talking power crazy democrat/socialists/Marxists party, the most undemocratic of all.

But, if Hillary were ahead in this ridiculously long and tiring primary race, she would not be wailing like a deranged banshee about sitting the Florida and Michigan delegates.

It is for her convenience when it is needed for her to become nominee. She was foolish to agree to the terms of the stupid agreement, but it proves she cannot stand by her word. She is a Clinton after all.
