Clinton compares the Florida and Michigan fight to civil rights movement

My colleague Ken Vogel reports:

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Hillary Clinton compared her effort to seat Florida and Michigan delegates to epic American struggles, including those to free the slaves and win the right to vote for blacks and women.

The current stalemate over the two states' primary votes threatens to replicate the disputed 2000 presidential election in Florida, she warned an elderly crowd in Palm Beach County - one of the jurisdictions where Democrats allege voters were disenfranchised in 2000.

The pointed speech marked the kick-off of a last-gasp effort by Clinton to prolong her Democratic presidential campaign by making the states count, which would cut into rival Barack Obama's leads in popular votes and pledged delegates.

"In Florida, you learned the hard way what happens when your votes aren't counted and the candidate with fewer votes is declared the winner," she said. "The lesson of 2000 here in Florida is crystal clear: if any votes aren't count, the will of the people isn't realized and our democracy is diminished."

Clinton, at times sounding like a modern history professor, praised the abolitionists, suffragettes and civil rights pioneers and talked about her own efforts to fight legislative redistricting and voter identification initiatives that she said dilute minority voting power.

Just what legal president based upon Constitutional law compels a political party to disregard their rules when a specific group of members disobeys them?

For Hillary, it must be under the "because I said so" clause.

Hillary should drape herself in the 48-star flag. She should adopt it as her symbol, and replace every flag on every stage with a 48-star flag.

"If Michigan and Florida are not to be counted, then we might as well take two stars off the flag!"... I can hear it now!

Hillary should drape herself in the 48-star flag....

Only if Obama-Rama uses his 57 star one.

I actually have my grandfather's 48 star flag and was interested in displaying it. I wanted to know if anyone out there knows if there are rules or regulations about displaying historical flags. No offense meant to Hawaii and Alaska but i think it's pretty cool.

No mention here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Flag_Code#History about proper etiquette for displaying historical flags. Anyone know?

It never hurts to have an excuse to make the flag a central theme in your campaign, and Hillary has the perfect one here.

It's all the better that Obama has made wearing the flag pin such an issue. Hillary can show that she is comfortable with Old Glory.

Plus, using the odd number might remind some voters of Obama's 57-state gaff, as you point out.

I know that I feel tremendous respect for the 48-star flag as a symbol of the Greatest Generation that won WWII. Having a little of that respect rub off on Hillary's campaign wouldn't hurt a bit, either.

Obama should just smile, shake hands, and kiss babies from now until the convention. Nothing else. Just let Hillary keep doing her thing without distractions or interruptions.

In the ‘92 election, President Bush called Clinton-Gore ‘bozos’.

In the ‘96 election, Senator Dole asked, “where’s the outrage?”

Both were right. The Clintons defiled the White House, the office, and proved to be scumbag grifters. They absolutely have no shame or feelings of guilt!

I have come to realize that the number of morons in this country that will overlook their crimes is staggering. And it bodes ill for our survival.

Exactly. She’s a beggar. She’s a sore loser. She’s showing her true colors and she’s too stupid to realize that the ordinary citizen, the news media, TV, radio etc. are tiring of seeing her whining face out there along with her husband and BLAMING everyone else. She’s a loser in the worst way. She’ll go out that way too.

"... 48 star flag and was interested in displaying it"

In the Boy Scouts and in the Air Force I was taught that flying any historical flag is disrespectful unless it's part of an historical exhibit. The reason being blood was shed for all 50 states.
