Prime Minister Ehud Olmert proposed in discussions Monday with the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, that a naval blockade be imposed on Iran as one of several ways to pressure Iran into stopping its uranium enrichment program. ...

"The present economic sanctions on Iran have exhausted themselves," Olmert told Pelosi, adding that the international community needed to take much more drastic steps to stop Iran's efforts to obtain nuclear weapons. Olmert also said there was a great deal of space between the present sanctions and military action. Aggressive action could be taken that was not violent, Olmert told Pelosi.

A naval blockade?

For the life of her, Pelosi couldn’t understand what belly buttons had to do with Iran.....

He waited until Bush had left Israel and then suggested this to Pelosi?

Is this the normal way to conduct diplomacy?

It is for Pelosi, and Olmert is on thin ice, so what’s to lose?

Maybe she was over there to give the DNC response to Bush's speech?

It was Olmert that proposed the blockade, not Pelosi. Olmert doesn’t listen to Savage....

Cute idea, but dollars to donuts, that would just activate a Berlin airlift via the Caspian Sea. The Russkies are into torpedoing our designs in that area, you know.

I'm sure Nancy assured him that Israel's fate will be safe once Obama is elected, and he can bring all of his magnificent charm to bear on the fanatical Jew hater Ahmadinejad. Men like Ahmadinejad have a way of being swayed about their most ernest beliefs when they meet a beguilingly eloquent man, like Obama. In fact, all of the world's problems will simply disappear. //Sarcasm off

Or as Investor's Business Daily wrote:

“A president who doesn't understand that America stands above the rest of the world is likely to be — especially in wartime — a president who, like Jimmy Carter, leads us into a dangerous national decline.” IBD Editorial

...very interesting...considering a blockade is an act of war. Does anyone think Bush could get congressional support for that? He will not do it unilaterally. The price of oil would shoot to $200 a barrel, the Iranians will cry to the UN, the Europeans will complain, etc. It’s a non-starter. I prefer the plan put forth by an former intel consultant... inform every airline that does biz with the US and Iran that unless they suspend all flights to Iran we will not give them landing rights in the US.

I wonder if could do the same with Iran exporting of oil - any business that purchases oil from Iran for sale in the world will be banned from doing any business in the U.S. So if ‘A’ buys oil from Iran they are not allowed to do business in the U.S. If ‘A’ sells it to ‘B’ then ‘B’ gets the same treatment. It would not be perfect but it would impose a burden on Iran’s chief form of cash to run their regime.
