Free Rock Concert Preceded Big Obama Rally in Portland
Hugh Hewitt just told me that right before Obama addressed that huge crowd in Portland, the indie rock band the Decemberists played a free 45-minute concert. Now, I'm sure Obama would draw a big crowd either way, but wasn't that worth mentioning in the coverage?
From Wikipedia: "Named both in reference to the Russian Decembrist Revolt (which may explain its use of the National Anthem of the Soviet Union as an introduction at many concerts)..." Lovely.
I wonder if they played, "Sixteen Military Wives." The video depicts a bully named "Henry Stowecroft" (Kissinger and Brent?) representing the United States in a grade school model United Nations who declares war on Luxembourg. I kid you not when I tell you the video begins with the bully putting on a flag pin.
The lyrics:
Sixteen military wives Thirty-two softly focused brightly colored eyes Staring at the natural tan of thirty-two gently clenching wrinkled little hands Seventeen company men Out of which only twelve will make it back again Sergeant sends a letter to five Military wives, whose tears drip down through ten little eyes
Cheer them on to their rivals Cause America can, and America can't say no And America does, if America says it's so It's so!
And the anchorperson on TV goes... La de da de da
Fifteen celebrity minds Leading their fifteen sordid wretched checkered lives Will they find the solution in time Using their fifteen pristine moderate liberal minds?
UPDATE: Looks like the Decemberists can pack them in for free concerts. In a show in Millennium Park in Chicago, one review said 10,000; a diary by one of the band members speculates 20,000. Again, Obama has shown time and again that he can pack crowds into arenas, and he can take pride in the 75,000+ that showed up Sunday. But a free concert by local stars helps...

Obama probably got on stage right away before people started to leave.
A minor factoid that was not reported by Nightly News.
Sounds like the Roman times, free entertainment and etc..
The bad is pretty much unheard of. I’m sure Obama drew that crowd out there in wacko country.
Gosh, how convenient to leave this part out in the national media....
The dying, socialist Democrat newsrooms protect Obama like a mother protects a slow child.
But you are just disillusioning a lot of people who were on a large thread trying their best to negate that huge crowd.
In spite of local firemen and rescue worker reports as to the size of the crowd.
Kerry drew about 60 thousand there in 2004.
And I saw mention in that thread of a possible Rock Concert associated with the rally.
Obomber crashes a rock concert. Hope. Change. You’re under my spell. Hope. Change. You will pick up after me. Hope. Change. Don’t piss off his wife. Hope. Change. Don’t ask any questions about the past or future. Hope. Change. You will iron my shirts. Hope. Change.
I got a fever, and the only prescription, is less Obama!
Didn’t Bruce Springsteen play a few songs before John Kerry addressed a crowd during the 2004 campaign?
If he’d try to crash a Who concert, Pete Townsend would have thrown him off the stage. Ask Abbie Hoffman.
The prescence of a rock band without doubt contributed to the big crowd. It is common sense. But the media is in the tank for Obama. Even Drudge, who has been acting very weird, had the crowd pic as his lead story.
a slick campaign strat ping....
Oh! I had heard it was the Dave Mathews Band. So sorry about that. But did they have free beer? I also heard that, too?
I live across the Columbia River from Portland.
Springsteen opened for Kerry in Madison, WI. They locked the gates and Kerry spoke to a huge crowd.
I hate the freakin mediaPIMPS...I HATE THEM, I HATE THEM I HATE THEM WITH A PASSION!! Bastards can’t even tell the truth!! I HATE THEM!!
Must be that white guilt. MSM certainly trying to prop up the Muslim militant.
...and it’s not a campaign donation, eh? Sorta like Cher appearing for free for Hillary fundraising, as if it was worth only a few bucks.
I was just listening to their stuff. Not bad musically but don’t like their politics. Strong Brit accent on the vocal lead.
They performed their new song ‘Valerie Plame’

Couldn’t tell you if they did their Russian National Anthem... if they were smart, they didn’t. Sort through if you wish in the sidebar.

It does sound like Roman times. Too bad the lions weren’t let loose. Now that would be entertainment!
bttt
BUMP!
Having done political advance work, now this makes good sense. It would be a huge logistical undertaking to get that number of people to show up for a political rally on relatively short notice and there is always the risk factor of the weather. Obama just piggybacked on an existing event. I’ll give his people credit for creativity. Good photo op and great propaganda.
Wow, he had a huge crowd in Dallas....makes a body wonder.
I bet the band, “The Decemberists,” actually thought all those people were there to hear them.
“The brown acid is a bad trip, man! Oops, did I say something racist?”
Almost!
I have been trying to find out (by e-mailing conservative radio talk show host Victoria Taft in Portland) whether they played the Soviet National Anthem and what their playlist was. She asked on the air the other night in prime time whether anyone knew the answer. No one called in in response, but I doubt if those who might know listen to her show.
From the song titles, I think they play a goodly number of anti-war songs. They are local to Portland which helps the draw.
Hitler use to draw a large crowd too.
That’s what scares me.
Is it live....or is it memorex?
I was wondering that exact thing.
The Decemberists are okay. I’m not a fan of much “modern” music, but they don’t completely suck.
Wow, only 75k people showed up to see the Decemberists? They must have put out a bad album.
Not really. According to the Decemberists website, the next venue they play will be the Les Schwab Amphitheatre.
It holds 8,000 people.
Assuming that bands play the venues they can sell out or come close to selling out, that is a long, long way from 70,000 or whatever number Obama claims. One can safely assume that if they could sell out a 70,000 person venue, they would do so.

“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh Dude....who’s that guy talking on and on up on stage? I hope he hurries up, my buzz is wearing off.”
Truth don’t come by the MSM.We know that and i hope that manybody know that.
One have better time to look at websites ,to send mails,to get some good, important and untold informations...
This 2008 presidential campaign could mark the beginning of the decline of the MSM’s power ,and a big loss of credibility

Are you kidding ? The Decemberists are VERY WELL known for their genre. Their myspace page shows that their three sample songs have been played 4,332,402 times so far!
Aaaaah, good old pitchfork. I first discovered that site right out of college in early ‘96. Used to be a lot cooler back then ... More record reviews and less politics.
An Obama + Nation = Abomination!
Did't Kerry (with Bubba Jeff klintoon) draw what some said were 100,000 in Philly in 2004 and then it was reported city workers were given time off to attend?
