A homeowner on Tuesday morning shot a 17-year-old burglary suspect who police said broke into the man's home while he was sleeping.
Police said the incident happened in the 2300 block of Larry Drive in east Dallas when the teen, who they said was skipping school, forced his way into the house through the back door.
The homeowner awoke and confronted the teen, eventually shooting the boy when he charged the man, police said.
Sgt. Steven Shaw said the homeowner had been a recent crime victim and that he was quite startled during the burglary.
"He was scared ," Shaw said. "Walked in the living room in his underwear and [the] burglar charged him, and fired one shot."
Shaw said the man was on the phone with a police dispatcher as he held the burglar at bay, including when he opened fire.
The suspect, whom investigators said has a history of burglarizing homes, was struck in the arm.
He was being treated at Baylor Medical Center.
He needs to work on his aim.
Was it clean underwear? You know what Mom always says about that.
CENTER of Mass and remember the phrase, I was in fear for my life.
Kinda reminds me of Desert Storm... quit to quick.
This begs the question why he's out and about breaking and entering.
I kinda like BGB....balls, gut......brain....
he’ll repeat it soon. The arm will be healed soon
.22s are cheap but man you gotta use a lot of ‘em to kill even a paper target.....
Since he was wounded he’ll probably qualify for a disability check.
parents allowing him to live after the first offense

Geeeze. I hate pronouns. Who was scared? The burgler or the victim?
Yes, I know the victim was scared. But it is this kind of "reporting" that gets stories twisted.
The writer must have gone to the Sean Hannity grammar school of journalism where students are expected to use 27 pronouns referring to three different people.
Number 4 shot is better.
You’d most likely be up for murder.
The kid needs to learn “daylighting” from school can be dangerous to one’s health as long as the Second Amendment is in tact, that is.
Yeah, my primary home defense gun is loaded with 3” double-ought, but I’m starting to think that might be overkill.
Yeah, #1 buck is better than 00 in most cases. More pellet mass to the target.
Probably easier on the ol’ drywall, too. And considering that I live in an apartment, easier on my neighbors!
I also have some Remington “Law Enforcement” low recoil 2 3/4” 00, but after shooting some, I realize the low recoil is kind of superfluous when you’re shooting a Mossberg 590A1. It didn’t kick much more than an M16 with that stuff. Probably more appropriate in a semi-auto.
I have a 590A1 as well as two Benelli M1s. Mine is loaded with #1 buck, has ghost sights, a 6rd side saddle loaded with 1 oz slugs, and a Knoxx recoil suppression adjustable butt-stock with an additional 5 rds on another saddle on the stock. 20rds of 12GA on tap pretty much dampens any recoil, but couple that to the bulk of the gun and the recoil suppression stock and it’s almost imperceptible. Next addition will be a tac light of some sort, the surefire is offset to get around the bayonet lug, but I really don’t like it. Haven’t found anything that looks like it will work.
Practice headshots.
I’ve been thinking about a tac light myself. My two main criteria are brightness and a secure mounting. I don’t have much use for a light that slips on the barrel, and I certainly don’t want one that’s bright enough to give my target something to shoot at, but not bright enough to blind him.
Tell you what. If either of us finds one that works, how about we share the info?
You got it.
Not in Tejas, compadre.
Standing there testing ammo brands in three mags full of ammo at an incapacited person's head is considered murder.
