McCain Is Losing the Iran Debate

Two thoughts on the Obama-Iran-appeasement controversy:
1. It seems to me that its a victory for Obama. The Iran debate is being defined as one of diplomatic engagement versus diplomatic isolation, with Obama presenting himself as the bearer of a new strategy while McCain is portrayed as obdurately insisting on the approach of the Bush administration. This, of course, creates an unsavory political problem for McCain, in which he is said to represent a third Bush term. But it also allows the debate on Iran to become completely fictionalized.

If the American Sheeple are stupid enough to agree with Obama in regards to Iran, we are in big time trouble.
I am begining to lose my faith in the Sheeple.

You had enough interest to post. It seems to me you aren’t accurately judging your own interest.

Wow, I can’t remember the last time I read anything from Dissent!
But I agree with the article. The election will be a referendum on Iraq. I will wager right here and now that Americans will vote for Obama over McCain because of the hatred of the Iraq War.
For all those who think that the US will save $$$ be getting out of Iraq, you are nuts. First, the Dems will spend any “savings” by expanding entitlement programs. Second, we will be attacked on several fronts (including China invading Taiwan and perhaps Japan) which will have staggering consequences to our economy.

So, Noah has an opinion in which it seems to him that Obama is winning this debate. That's great, for Noah. Where do I sign up to write op-ed pieces based only on my sense of "it seems"?

I lost all interest at, it seems to me.What was quoted is misleading. The author is saying McCain's approach is off; not that his points are wrong. The author bring out the fact that Europe has been using diplomacy to no affect, just as Obama has suggested. He argues that McCain should be discussing this instead of diplomatic 'points'.

IIRC, the “progressives” favoured “diplomatic isolation” (and boycotts) to end Apartheid in S. Africa. Only “regressives” deigned to suggest diplomatic engagement.

Typical American Marxist, when losing the debate, claim victory and change the subject.
This is about the only issue the Democrats are not trusted on by the American people right now. By choosing to debate on this issue it emphases McCain's few strengths and highlights the real ugly nature of Obama’s brand of politics

To: Jbny
Oh please! The only people buying into this “Lets sit down and have a nice chat with the lunatics” strategy of Obama’s are his fellow Libtards and DUmmies. Everyone else that's not terminally stupid knows full well that you can't have meaningful discussions with crazy people.

Yeah, I went to the link to see if this was Noah of Noah’s Ark fame or someone else.
Either way, Noah is wrong. Unless you accept the liberal media’s kneejerk defense of Obama and/or Obama’s weak attempt to now walk this back from what he actually said (in that debate, multiple times since, and on his website — that’s a lot of walking back to do) there’s no way to spin this as other than complete naivete (sp?).

Actually, it seems to me that McCain has really gotten his grove back on this issue. I just watched his video of him in Miami and he was the McCain that we all know and love/hate. With this and blasting the Dems. on the farm bill, he's been on Maverick-y fire for the past few days.
Which is a good thing, because frankly he's been a bit adrift since Romney dropped out. I think that perhaps the long Dem. primary wasn't as awesome as everyone thought for McCain. He really needs an adversary to be effective.
