America's Best Days
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 5/20/08 | Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 05/20/2008 9:20:05 AM PDT by Dawnsblood

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 62% of voters would prefer fewer government services with lower taxes. Nearly a third (29%) disagrees and would rather have a bigger government with higher taxes. Ten percent (10%) are not sure.

Those numbers have changed little over the past month.

Republican voters overwhelmingly prefer fewer government services—83% of the GOP faithful hold that view while just 13% prefer more government involvement. Democratic voters are evenly divided on this question: 46% prefer more government services, while 43% prefer less government services.

McCain wins if picks up this theme. He has an advantage on foreign policy. With the threat of government provided medical care, he can grab the advantage of domestic issues...or at least split the vote on these issues....if he can frame the domestic debate on limited government.

It’ the 29% that either works in or exclusively with government that is running our country.

How unfortunate that our wishes mean nothing to the politicians.

“The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 62% of voters would prefer fewer government services with lower taxes.”

And yet look at who we vote into Congress.

Americans need to rise up and physically remove the recalcitrant politicians from their lofty positions and restore the power back to the people. Period. Our forefathers would expect nothing less.

McCain should frame his campaign in terms of smaller government. Clearly, a lot of people are in favor of it. But then again, smaller government doesn’t enhance the power of our political overlords, so you can forget that...

But 80% want more government services, paid for by the other 20% and THATS the fairytale the Rats sell quite successfully.

This is laughable. McCain has no credibility as a small government guy.

* How do you advocate small government when you want to turn the economy over to the greens, with a ridiculous global warming bill?

* How do you advocate small government when you think citizens should go to jail for criticizing politicians before an election?

* How do you advocate small government when you were one of the leading senators in the majority party during one of the biggest runups in federal power and spending in history.

“* How do you advocate small government when you want to turn the economy over to the greens, with a ridiculous global warming bill?”

This isn’t really McCain’s fault, he’s not a scientist. He does need to get some competent scientific advice though.

Weren’t there dollars and cents involved as well? I didn’t think McCain’s campaign reforms directly infringed on anyone’s right to speak, did they?

I think McCain’s voting record reflects quite a bit of fiscal restraint. That is in fact one of his strongest attributes.

Everybody wants fewer government services, until time comes for their service to be cut.

Nearly 50% of American workers pay no federal income tax. These, along with the non-workers who, of course, pay no tax, are the Democrat base.

He wants to be president. The buck stops on his desk. No excuses. He has made a profoundly bad decision with his usual bias toward big government and big government power. It's not his science advisors' fault that McCain hired incompetants.

No. Not unless you think going to jail for running an ad criticizing a politician 45 days before the election is a direct infringement. I suppose John would permit folks to criticize politicians quietly, in their living rooms. They could do that without spending "dollars and cents." But go public, go to jail in John's world.

I'm not aware that he voted against any of the omnibus spending bills during the Bush Administration. His idea of fiscal restraint, other than talk talk, is to keep taxes high.

If he were Obama, the media would let him get away with misrepresenting his small government credentials. He's a Republican. As soon as he's running against a dem, he is actually going to have to have a record that supports his claims.

I would love to hear a heartfelt change of heart by McCain about small government. But it would be a Road to Damascus type switcheroo.

The reality doesn't reach the proletariat.  All they hear is Democrats saying: "yeah, we'll raise taxes, just not yours."  Otherwise it would be total insanity for any of that 62% to vote for a Democrat, yet they will.  People just don't think.  At the demand of congress we recently stopped buying $120 oil for the strategic petroleum reserve.  Six months from now we will start buying it again, but it will likely be closer to $180, or about 50% more than now.  What a waste of my money.

I say my money because the use of taxpayer's money makes it sound like it's someone else's money.

Wow. This is great news! In this environment, a Republican will clean a Democrat’s clock.

Too bad there’s no Republicans left in the race.
