Council To Ask Gov. Granholm To Remove Kilpatrick From Office

The Detroit City Council Tuesday will officially ask Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm to remove Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick from office.

Last week, council members voted 5-4 to begin forfeiture of office proceedings against Kilpatrick. On a separate 5-4 vote, they approved asking Granholm to terminate Kilpatrick's hold on the mayor's office. A third vote -- to censure the mayor -- passed on a 7-2 vote.

Its a tight vote that sends a message that the council is too cowardly or tied to Kilpatrick to get rid of him.

I’m convinced some of these clowns want the governor do it and then they can all blame it on racism since Granholm is white.

Can you, or anyone else, provide more detail on the power of the Governor of Michigan to remove city/town mayors from office?

I cannot speak specifically to Michigan, but this is a common power for governors as the state's chief executive officer. Here in Florida, we have had sheriffs and other elected officials removed (generally after sufficient evidence of malfeasance). While I think there is a reversal if they are later found innocent, the concept is that the state governor is acting as that office holders ultimate superior.

With Jennifer Grandtheft being a good buddy of the Clinton’s, she will do nothing regarding King Kwame’s 8 felony charges. I’ts long been rumored she’s got a cabinet position in the works. Michigan is in a very poor condition these days, and the only thing Grandtheft has accomplished in 2 terms is repeatedly raise taxes. As an example, over 240,000 residents left the state in March of 2008.
