Bearing petitions and prayers, about 70 people gathered Sunday to protest the hateful utterances of national radio personality Michael Savage, whose talk show is carried locally by KCMO 710-AM.
Representatives from several faiths, including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism and Sikhism, were meeting for the first time as the Interfaith Coalition Against Bigotry at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
The group has collected hundreds of signatures on petitions protesting Savages statements last fall, which included a call to deport Muslims from the United States without due process of law, the group said.
We have become sometimes saddened and sometimes angered by what Michael Savage has said, Arif Ahmad of the Islamic Center of Johnson County said Sunday. We have to tell everyone, you become a star by bringing people together, not by dividing them.

No kidding. And getting rid of Savage on the radio is going to do that?
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
When I go into my swim areobics class, Sean Hannity is on. When I come out and turn on the car, Savage blasts at me from 710. arrrgggg. He is so totally negative out of control that even when I sort of agree with his position and think yes, that has to be said, he plasters such hate speech, often at the other conservative TV and radio people that I cannot and won’t listen to it. I wouldn’t miss it if 710 kicks it.
“Interfaith” Say no more. That is a bunch of feel good liberals from each of these faiths getting together. Try to take away porn for the children, and they’d have a fit. However, it’s ok to them for actual speech with which they disagree to be censored.
I listen to Savage when I can, and I have found him to make more sense in one of his crazed modes than any liberal can make when they are calm.
I can understand your opinion. But if they succeed in getting him taken off the station like this, others who like his show will not get to hear him. Right now you have the option to change the station.
it’d be more peaceful if they dropped these religious groups.
Congrats. You’re an evolutionary step above the whiners in the article as you have figured out how the on/off button works on your radio.
Good observation. Free speech is but a concept to these group thinking types.
"Hate speech?"
Wow.
In the eyes of the secular humanist,
Christianity = Islam = Judaism = Buddhism = Sikhism
They're only missing a representative from Environmentalism.
He’s a good, crazy lead in to “Coast to Coast AM” overnight.
Beyond that either he is a leftie faking conservative or just a crazy guy who happens to occasionally talk like a conservative.
Remember that “hate speech” means you violated the Owellian thought control that exists today.
“...give Muslims or interfaith groups air time to respond and explain Islam,”
That should be interesting. “This is why we slaughter every American POW we capture. This is why we cut off the heads of all non believers. This is why we murder teenage girls who dare to think for themselves. This is why we want to destroy Israel.” Yep, this explanation should be interesting.
Thanks to PEOS for posting.

Those lunatics are making headway in this crazy world.

You forgot Zoroastrians too!
He grew up a lefty, and then left that camp. As far as your description of him is concerned I would go with the latter, sorta.
You can’t be serious.
Michael Savage, a liberal?
I gotta’ get some of what you’re smoking.
“... about 70 people gathered Sunday to protest... The group has collected hundreds of signatures on petitions ...”
WOW, 70 people collected hundreds of signatures. Amazing what passes for news. Our local Rush affiliate does the same thing. Every time a handful of wingnuts get together it get reported on the radio.
The comments after the story are good (mostly). You can leave a comment yourself. I did.
Go to thia link before you pull a lever.

Wow ... the Kansas City metro population served by KCMO is 2 million so this means (gasp!) ... so 70 underemployed underworked twits protesting is almost 0.000035 percent.
Freedom of speech is not there to protect popular speech. It’s to protect unpopular speech. The term, “Hate Speech” more often than not is used by weak minded people that do not have the skill set required to win an argument.
“Beyond that either he is a leftie faking conservative or just a crazy guy who happens to occasionally talk like a conservative.”
He’s the right’s version of Keith Olbermann.
Funny how I didn’t see any folks on this thread questioning whether or not what Rev Wright said was “hate speech”.
LOL!
Why not listen to some nice music instead?
Savage is more like Stern than he is like Rush. I heard that argument with Stern and with Imas. They both survived. I choose not to listen to Savage. That’s all I can do. I also choose not to listen to skanky music on the radio.
I do. I maybe listen to Savage for 2 minutes a week and then only because its already tuned to that channel.
You could tune to music instead of someone saying the same thing day after day.

Send treats to the troops...
Great because you did it!

Screw em!
By the arghhh in your response, it sounded like more. Maybe you could change the station prior to getting out of the car, that way, you won’t have to hear any of him.
Savages listening audience is Keith Olbermann wet dream. Savage is ranked third only be Rush and Hannity.
“Savages listening audience is Keith Olbermann wet dream. Savage is ranked third only be Rush and Hannity.”
Howard Stern used to beat them all. Is that something to brag about?
I think that says a lot about our nation and validates what Savage is saying.
What's so funny about that? Did you ever hear Savage say GD America, or target, and make hateful comments about the skin color of a person?
Islam teaches to divide people. And slaughter. And kill. For Allah.
Sura (2:191-193) - "And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution of Muslims is worse than slaughter of non-believers...and fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah."
Sura (5:33) - "The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement"
Sura (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"
Bukhari (52:177) - Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. "O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him."
Tabari 7:97 The morning after the murder of Ashraf, the Prophet declared,"Kill any Jew who falls under your power."
Ibn Ishaq: 327 - Allah said, A prophet must slaughter before collecting captives. A slaughtered enemy is driven from the land. Muhammad, you craved the desires of this world, its goods and the ransom captives would bring. But Allah desires killing them to manifest the religion.
I’ve heard Savage express admiration for all true religions many more times than other radio hosts,
I am guessing that this inter-faith coalition is made up of activists who use religion as a mask
“I think that says a lot about our nation and validates what Savage is saying.”
Maybe to some degree. I can see where conservatives trapped in liberal cities might want to get out some frustration by listening to him.
Personally, I don’t see the attraction. He appears to be a hater more than a problem solver or thinker.
“Did you ever hear Savage say GD America, or target, and make hateful comments about the skin color of a person?”
Are those the only two qualifiers of what can be considered “hate speech”? America and skin color?
Why doesn’t the Interfaith Collective Against Individual Rights get a radio show and deliver us from evil. /sarcasm
?
Who cares? You brought up Wright for some reason and I'm not interested in comparing Savage with Wright. If you have a statement to make in this regard, then go ahead.
I don’t like Savage either, but I use the tool at my disposal when he comes on the radio - change the station.
The alternative is the 2 guys on 980, who are leaning more and more on the liberal side of moderate every time I hear them. Plus you run the risk of hearing the same 3 Darla Jay commercials 8-12 times.
The only thing I like about Savage is the music when he comes on.
Excellent!
That would make for a good email to send to KCMO.
