Schwarzenegger calls for 'rebranding' GOP (Barf-o-rama)
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | May 18, 2008 | Carla Marinucci

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger created shock and awe in the Republican Party when he warned years ago that the GOP was in danger of "dying at the box office" by failing to make the sale to a wide swath of voters. And with the presidential election looming, the Republican governor of the nation's most populous state - a decidedly blue state - has now found a chorus of agreement. The Republican "brand" - thanks to an unpopular president, a war, gas prices, foreclosures and deficit - has become such damaged goods that GOP Rep. Tom Davis of Virginia groused last week that "if we were dog food, they would take us off the shelf." The answer for GOP presidential candidate John McCain: take a page out of the Schwarzenegger playbook and sell a product that is "counter" to the current GOP brand on issues like global warming, spending and even immigration reform.

Republican leaders made this mess by spitting on their base. Now, according to The Terminator and his friends in the MSM, they should fix it by moving farther to the left. Way to go!

If we're going to die, better to die on our feet than on our knees. Moving Left isn't the answer to the Republican Party's problems.

This reason the PUBs are in such bad shape is lack of leadership. Also, they have spent the last 7 years getting b*tch slapped, and b*tch slapped, and b*tch slapped, and they just stood there and took it, and took it, and took it, and did nothing to fight back or explain their positions. They did it to themselves.

Maybe he should switch to the party that is more in tune with his political views instead of trying to change the party he belongs to. I realize that whats going to sell in California politically is not going to sell in fly over country but this is ridiculous. If you’re going to sacrifice your core beliefs you’re going to lose your core believers.

The mental midgets in charge still fail to recognize that the reason the GOP is failing is because we DON’T want them to move furhter to the left.

No matter, let the GOP die and when the new party is formed don’t let the traitors in.

Key Republicans are apparently more concerned with the party itself than standing up for the beliefs and values of the constituents who put them in office to begin with.

For the Republican party to regain its stature and the trust of Americans, the answer is most certainly not to move closer to the position of your political foes, but rather to stand by your principles. Don’t just cave in and roll over, but stand up and fight for what you believe in. It’s becoming more apparent by the day that the Republican leadership has trouble comprehending that.

The only thing that needs re-branding is the GOP's ass with the Big C brand.

Yeah, stupid for sure. If this continues and gains strength, then we are probably headed for the formation of a conservative third party. This is not necessarily a bad idea as legislation would pass or fail issue by issue as coalitions based upon temporary alliances would be formed. Heck, it would beat what we (conservatives) have now - which is nothing...

What's interesting in Texas is that many of the RINO incumbents lost to conservative challengers this spring in both the primary and runoff.

This reminds me of Lowell Weicker, Jacob Javits, and all those other liberal Republicans of the past who were essentially Democrats all along. They screamed that in order for the GOP to win they would have to become more like Dems. Then came Reagan and Gingrich. Now we are almost back to that point where they say we can’t win as coservatives. If the electorate has moved to the left then they might be correct, sadly. But what is the point of just forming a warmed over, second Democrat party?? It would be better to stand on principle, even if it means going down to defeat. Hopefully the American people will one day get tired of socialism and come back to our side.

Very true. I live in the DFW Metroplex and am a NBT (native born Texan-an endangered species). Sadly, there are not more states with Texas’ political, moral and social values. But as the saying goes, “it’s like being in it’s own country”. God bless Texas...
