Not So Fast on the Qur’an Apology….

Last Saturday, Major General Jeffery Hammond, commander of U.S. forces in Baghdad, issued a formal apology to leaders in Radhwaniya, in western Baghdad, after an American soldier used a Qur’an for target practice.

The soldier said he didn’t know that the book he used was a Qur’an, but military brass rejected this and announced plans to reassign the soldier to duty within the United States.

We don't have to apologize for our aversion to Islam. That's the last thing on earth we should be doing. We're not dhmmis trying to seek favor with a Muslim majority in this country. Enough already!

He should apologize.

A full-sized Koran is too large a target.

Now if he was hitting a pocket-book version of the Koran, THAT’S GOOD SHOOTING!!!

"The reactions of Major General Hammond and his staff were understandable, but excessive. They don’t want to alienate people they believe they have won over, or whom they hope to win over, in Baghdad. They had to disavow this soldier’s action. However, kissing the Qur’an and begging for forgiveness – and holding an apology “ceremony” in the first place – are gestures that spring from a misunderstanding of how they are likely to be perceived by the “tribal leaders and others at the apology ceremony.”

"Major General Hammond is anxious to show that the U.S. is not at war with Islam. Fine. But to kiss the Qur’an and to beg for forgiveness are signs that one accepts its authority and the authority of those before whom one is begging. Coming from non-Muslims, it is likely that they will be interpreted as gestures of submission, and the submission of non-Muslims to Muslims is a significant concept in Islamic law – although I am sure Major General Hammond and his staff are unaware of this. Given that, is it wise to be giving such impressions? Are such impressions not likely to create even more tension in the future?"

This article has more to do with Gen Hammond's apology than the soldier's excuse.

It doesn't matter what the Muzzies see this response as. We still have our mission and the will to back it up.

One of our greatest strengths is that other cultures can't figure us out. We don't need to figure out what Muzzie perceptions are because their perceptions and what reality is is two different things.

So, if you were Gen Hammond, you would have put on the same elaborate apology ceremony and kissed the Qu’ran?

I feel the same way. Kissing the Quran by a non-Muslim is indeed a gesture of submission. I do understand the concept that shooting the Quran was counterproductive to peace in Iraq, and the shooter showed poor judgment, considering the theater of war. He should have waited until he got stateside, ordered a free Quran, then shot it to hell. I am thinking of that plan myself.

However, kissing the stupid book and begging for forgiveness will give comfort to the enemy. This is what they hope for!

No, I doubt it. I would rip the sniper who shot the Koran a new one for putting the Army through this bs, he should have known how sensitive these guys are and how weak their faith in whatever they worship is.

That said, we carry a big stick, a very big stick and if need be at some point we find the General has lost the respect of the locals, we just put someone else in his place who these guys don't know.

Imagine the confusion of our enemies when on one hand we stomp the hell out of them and then we fix em back up. It must play some mind games.

Uh-huh, right.

What did he think he was shooting? Is it normal for him to just go out to the range and fire up some random books?

This back-pedaling, along with the President’s apology, just makes us look weak and stupid.

Don’t apologize for filling a Koran with bullets. Own it and say, “Hell yeah I used it for target practice! If those guys want to use it as justification for killing me and my fellow soldiers then I feel free to use it for target practice.”

the jihad terrorists quote the Qur’an copiously to justify their acts of violence.

The soldier was simply surgically removing the bad parts.

Sura (2:191-193) - "And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution of Muslims is worse than slaughter of non-believers...and fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah."

Sura (5:33) - "The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement"

Sura (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"

Bukhari (52:177) - Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. "O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him."

Tabari 7:97 The morning after the murder of Ashraf, the Prophet declared,"Kill any Jew who falls under your power."

Ibn Ishaq: 327 - “Allah said, ‘A prophet must slaughter before collecting captives. A slaughtered enemy is driven from the land. Muhammad, you craved the desires of this world, its goods and the ransom captives would bring. But Allah desires killing them to manifest the religion.’”

For the record, this is typical behavior for Hammond. He’s a piece of work. I witnessed him and his equally obnoxious CSM in action pre-deployment at Ft Hood. The quintessential CYA prima donna micromanaging GO with too much time on his hands. While the NCO in question here put fellow soldiers at risk for this rash act, Hammond and his staff just made it much worse in the long run by turning it into high drama for brownie points. The islamists will perceive weakness and squeeze the lemon dry now.

I don’t care if he knew it or didn’t. I might start getting really upset in a few years and taking qurans, throw lighter fluid on them and burn them in my barbecue.

I am sick of the apologies to terrorists. Yes, it is my personal belief that all muslims are terrorists. Why? Look at their history. That is enough for me. They don’t belong in the U.S.

If I were the stooge Hammond (whose career is over), I would have disciplined the soldier, sent him back to the state for a dishonarable discharge. And then shut my mouth.

Dishonorable discharge pretty extreme. Article 15 with the most severe penalties for sure. But I wouldn't go as far as discharge. Depends on any priors along with performance record.

Obviously, if soldiers refuses Article 15 then it's up to his commander to pursue courts martial proceedings.

It was also referred to as the constitution of a nation.

My government does not recognize a religious tract as a “constitution” for a government foreign or domestic. All men are born free. It is tyrannies that shackle them.

As if all that ass-kissing was not enough, President Bush apologized to the PM of Iraq. I'd like to scream in his face! Imagine this:

Dear Herr Hitler,

I humbly apologize to you and the German people for the despicable act of our soldier that shot "Mein Kampf". I can assure you that it was an aberation and will not ever happen again. The soldier and his family have been severely reprimanded.

Your humble servant,

President Franklin D. Roosevelt
