Obama Talk on Iranians Draws Fire From McCain

Senator John McCain put Senator Barack Obama on the foreign policy defensive once again Monday, attacking him here in his hometown for saying Iran did not pose the same serious threat to the United States that the Soviet Union once did.

The only bigger threat than Iran is Sen. Buraq Hussein Obama himself, an Islamist and a terrorist enabler.

Exactly. Another one is “target,” as “the Republicans targeted Obama again today.” This kind of language is not accidental, and they never use it to describe the activities of the Left.

Next time Obama says something about Bush etc. being cowboys, Mac ought to look at him and say “cowboys are the good guys senator, they helped build this country.”

Obama is telling us what he will do. He and Michelle will tell us what and when to eat, and they will tell us how much and when we can drive. After that, they will sneak down the hall way and change our thermostats. All of this denigration submitted for the approval and satisfaction of other countries.

What I also enjoy is seeing the whiplash effect that he has on his acolytes (um, I mean, on the journalists and pundits covering the campaign) as they twist themselves into pretzels trying to rationalize his remarks one day, only to have to backtrack the next day as Obama lamely attempts damage control either by reversing himself or by 'splaining his earlier remarks.

We've seen this so many times that Obama's little dance schtick has become as predictable as Henny Youngman's "Take my wife, please" - Could never disown Wright, then disowns Wright; Iran is no threat, but then Iran has always been a major threat, etc. That poor shmuck of an editorial writer at the Seattle Times who thought he was doing Obama a favor by commenting positively on Hitler's merits is just one of many casualties left in Obama's destructive wake.

So, I wonder whether there will be any traction to calling him "Backtrack Obama" instead of "Barack Obama" - he always seems to be backtracking from his most recent faux pas...

That guy (Obama) is an idiot. Has he studied history at all, world politics? You'd think so given his line of work...

The Soviets were indeed a threat. They differed in political ideology, and their military had significant punch. As a Soviet General was quoted as saying "Quantity has a quality all its own." However, as we learned from years of the cold war, and as we came to realize even more after the cold war ended - the Soviets always behaved more or less rationally. They were fanatical about defense. After all, they had been invaded as recently as WWII. We might not have always agreed (ok, rarely agreed), but they made decisions with sanity, and realized they had just as much to lose as we did.

This is not the case with Iran. True, they don't have anything like the Red Army. Their nuclear program is stone-age compared to the Soviets. Their missile technology, while advanced for an aspiring power, is similarly nothing compared to Soviet designs. What really makes them a threat is that they are just powerful enough to do serious damage. Even worse, they are "led" by an apparently irrational, emotionally unstable religious zealot. I don't think he would have any reservations about initiating a holy "cleansing" attack. Even knowing the devastation we would rain down on him and his country. To him it would all be for the greater glory of his God.

Well, maybe technically Obama is correct. Iran is not the same serious threat. Iran cannot turn our country into a radioactive wasteland from coast to coast. However, they could potentially rip the heart out of a city or two. The difference is, I believe Iran is far, far more likely to try it than the Soviet Union ever was. Thank God for the Missile Defense Agency and Presidents Reagan and Bush for pushing this forward. The BMD system may not be perfect, but I sleep just fine at night, even though I'm within a few miles of several prime targets.

I wouldn’t bet on that, don’t underestimate him. He’s been delivering some pretty good zingers (low-key, sparingly, but very well chosen) just in the last couple of weeks - and BHO isn’t even the OFFICIAL nominee yet. JSM’s no dummy and, while he wasn’t my choice by a long shot early on, I see him display more and more what, sadly, Fred Thompson didn’t - a fire in the belly for the office of POTUS.

LOL - only as of today, it’s “Leave my wife alone, please”.

While it’s on my mind - seriously, though, this drives me wild - only just now even Brit Hume restated that “of course, he’s not a Muslim”, commenting on the latest circulations about this. Sean and all the others - same. WHY don’t any of these guys research or learn Islam and the Koran??? Both clearly state that if someone is either born of a muslim (which BHO WAS), or raised as one for a certain amount of years (which BHO WAS), then they ARE considered muslim (per their faith, not our western one). And, if that person then “leaves” the faith upon or after puberty, they are labeled an apostate and as such, are to be executed. The “official” history we know of BHO is that his muslim schooling, upbringing and muslim beliefs ended shortly before that time, but do we really know?? Since I’m not at all impressed with his increasing protestations of being a “devout Christian”, only HE knows what he believes, and practices, behind closed doors.

Absolutely. To say apples and oranges would be an understatement. The Soviets were as pragmatic as we, with the same basic agenda, and certainly survival-oriented. This new threat, Iran etal, is like no other - mad, religious fanatics who are suicide-driven to hasten the “second coming”, accomplished only by taking the entire non-muslim, Infidel portion of the planet with them.
