Two million Britons emigrate in 10 years

By James Kirkup, Political Correspondent
Last Updated: 12:59AM BST 20/05/2008

Two million British citizens have left the UK in a decade, the greatest exodus from this country in almost a century, new figures will show.

Some historians say the departure of two million Britons in a decade is almost unparalleled in the country's history

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) will release figures showing that more than 200,000 Britons emigrated during 2006. That will take the total number who left the country between 1997 and 2006 to 1.97 million.

Another 1.58 million foreign nationals resident in Britain left during the same period.

However, 3.9 million foreigners arrived over the decade, including more than 500,000 in 2006.

The body will publish the raft of immigration figures on Tuesday, as MPs prepare to dismiss the national statisticians’ data as “not fit for purpose” and demand an overhaul of the way population movements are measured.

On Thursday, the Treasury sub-committee of the House of Commons will conclude that the lack of reliable and up-to-date figures for immigrant populations is hampering Government policy both nationally and locally.

ONS figures only go back to 1991, but some historians say the departure of two million Britons in a decade is almost unparalleled in the country’s history.

According to figures compiled by Jay Winter, of Yale University, the last comparable exodus came between 1911 and 1914, when 2.4 million people left Britain. The other significant spike in emigration came in the late 1950s and early 1960s, when thousands of Britons left to start new lives in Australia, Canada and the United States.

The Institute for Public Policy Research, a think-tank, has estimated that there are more than 5.5 million British citizens living abroad.

Jill Rutter, a senior migration researcher at the IPPR, said the recent exodus marked “probably the greatest period of emigration we’ve ever seen”.

She said: “A lot of this is people retiring abroad, which is a relatively new phenomenon and is only possible because we are all better off .

“There is also a much more internationalised labour market and workforce — it is now quite commonplace for people to go abroad to work for a year or more.” Immigrants who come to this country, gain citizenship and then leave also add to the total of British emigrants.

Opposition parties say that some emigrants have been driven out of Britain by its high levels of crime and taxation.

“This explosion in emigration is inevitably a reflection of the state of the country under a Labour government,” said David Davis, the shadow home secretary.

Oddly enough this concept can be found in most city builder video games. High crime and high taxes and your little sprites pack up and march off in a huff. A ten year old child quickly grasps the basics. Such a pity that grownups can not.

They basically got the white Brits to self-deport and replaced them wholesale with those from the 3rd World.

I wonder how this compares percentage wise to the exodus brought about by the potato famine, when 20 to 25% of Ireland left Britain.

Of Brit colleagues/acquaintances/email buddies that I know:

1. 4 are in Australia.

2. 1 is in Cyprus.

3. 1 is in Manhattan.

The folks in Australia and Cyprus were looking for better weather and a more relaxed (and cheaper) standard of living, kinda like NYers and Jerseyites moving to Florida (lots of Brits in Spain for the same reasons, I understand).

Importing the third world (mostly Muslims) in great enough numbers is just about the surest way to get first worlders to leave. Predictably, Labour is incapable of connecting the dots.

I worked with a Brit of Indian origin who was here for six years and went back to London about seven months ago. He was not a muslim, btw.

Most of the Brits moving to Oz, Spain, Cyprus, etc. are white ie indigenous English and Scots.

Subject: Another European says it like it is!

Churchill once said, “Appeasement is feeding the dragon hoping he will
eat you LAST.”

(If you want to know about the author, Paul Belien) - - -
http://www.brusselsjournal.com/paulbelien )

The German author Henryk M. Broder recently told the Dutch Newspaper
“DeVolkskrant” that young Europeans, who love freedom, better emigrate.
Europe as we know it will not exist twenty years from now.

While sitting on a terrace in Berlin during the interview, Broder pointed to
the other customers and the passers-by and said, “We are watching the
world of yesterday.”

Europe is turning Muslim. As Broder is sixty years old he is not going to
emigrate.

“I am too old,” he said. However, he urged young people to get out and
“move to Australia or New Zealand . That is the only option they have if
they want to avoid the plagues that will turn the old continent uninhabitable.”

Many Germans and Dutch, apparently, are not waiting for Broder’s advice.
The number of emigrants leaving the Netherlands and Germany has already
surpassed the number of immigrants moving in. One does not have to be
prophetic to predict, like Henryk Broder, that Europe is becoming Islamic.

Just consider the demographics.

- The number of Muslims in Contemporary Europe is estimated to be 50
million.
- It is expected to double in twenty years. By 2025, one third of all European
children will be born to Muslim families.
- Today Mohammed is already the most popular name for newborn boys in
Brussels , Amsterdam , Rotterdam and other major European cities.

Broder is convinced that the Europeans are not willing to oppose Islamization.
“The dominant ethos,” he told De Volkskrant, “is perfectly voiced by the
stupid blonde woman author with whom I recently debated.

She said that it is sometimes better to let yourself be raped than to risk
serious injuries while resisting. She said it is sometimes better to avoid
fighting than run the risk of death.”

In a recent Op-Ed piece in the Brussels newspaper De Standaard the Dutch
(gay and self-declared “humanist”) author Oscar Van Den Boogaard refers
to Broder’s interview. Van den Boogaard says that to him coping with the
Islamization of Europe is like “a process of mourning.” He is overwhelmed
by a “feeling of sadness.”

“I am not a Warrior,” he says, “but who is? I have never learned to fight for
my freedom. I was only good at enjoying it.”

Consider that in all of Europe no one under the age of 65 has pickedup arms
in defense of their country. That task has been borne by the United States
since Hitler surrendered in 1945.

As Tom Bethell wrote in this month’s American Spectator: “Just at the most
basic level of demography the secular-humanist option is not working.”
But there is more to it than the fact that non-religious people tend not to have
as many children as religious people, because many of them prefer to “enjoy”
freedom rather than renounce it for the sake of children.

Secularists, it seems to me, are also less keen on fighting. Since they do
not believe in an afterlife, this life is the only thing they have to lose.
Hence they will rather accept submission than fight.

Like the German feminist Broder referred to, they prefer to be raped than to
resist.

“If faith collapses, civilization goes with it,” says Bethell. That is the real
cause of the closing of civilization in Europe .

Islamization is simply the consequence. The very word Islam means
“submission” and the secularists have submitted already. Many Europeans
have already become Muslims, though they do not realize it or do not want
to admit it.

Some of the people I meet in the U.S. are particularly worried about the rise
of anti-Semitism in Europe . They are correct when they fear that
anti-Semitism is also on the rise among non-immigrant Europeans.

The latter hate people with a fighting spirit. Contemporary Anti-Semitism in
Europe (at least when coming from native Europeans) is related to
anti-Americanism.

People who are not prepared to resist and are eager to submit, hate others
who do not want to submit and are prepared to fight. They hate them because
they are afraid that the latter will endanger their lives as well.
In their view everyone must submit.

This is why they have come to hate Israel and America so much, and the
small band of European “Islamophobes” who dare to talk about what they
see happening around them. West Europeans have to choose between
submission (Islam) or death. I fear, like Broder, that they have chosen
submission - just like in former days when they preferred to be Red rather
than dead.

Europeans apparently never read John Stuart Mill: “War is an ugly thing,
but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and
patriotic feeling which thinks nothing is worth a war, is worse.”

“A man who has nothing which he cares more about than he does about
his personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance at being
free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.”

Thousands of women have four abortions

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1976695/Thousands-of-women-had-four-abortions.html

Department of Health figures uncovered by this newspaper show that during 2006 more than 3,800 women underwent at least their fourth abortion, including more than 1,300 who were on their fifth or more. Of more than 60,000 women who underwent a “repeat” abortion, almost 15,000 were on their third.

These included 65 women who had their sixth abortion by the age of 30, and 82 girls aged under 18 who had already experienced three, and more than 50 women who had had eight abortions or more.

I think some leftists understand it, and simply ‘wish’ it were not so. For example, the leftist expression “race to the bottom” implies that they understand that the states/nations without harmonized laws will compete with each other as each tries to underbid the others in lowering taxes, spending, regulation...so as to make itself more attractive to outside financial interests and unattractive to unwanted entities.

This is precisely why I ENDORSE multiple level stratifications within a “federalist” framework. The result will be downward harmonization - i.e. a reduction of regulation, welfare, taxes, and trade barriers which will lead to voluntary sociopolitical segregation, where parasites, criminals, and other wastes of oxygen will flock to those socialist states which still retain big-government policies.

The push by leftists for a one-world government with harmonized laws, regulations, labor standards, environmental standards, price controls, and so on is precisely to corrupt the forces of economic “natural selection”. Economic globalization was feared by many because it represented additional avenues for this selective process to operate within. The “solution” sought is now political globalization, through bodies like the UN. Put the tax rates at 90% everywhere on earth and there will be no capital flight (there will be no capital growth either, but what kind of concern is that for socialists?).

While I think many on the left are more than a few fries short of a happy meal, it is clear that many do have a solid grasp of the issues. It is just that they have wildly divergent values and goals.

(1) Ireland isn't Britain. At one time it was controlled by the United Kingdom, but Britain is the island that includes England, Scotland, and Wales. (2) the population of Ireland even today is tiny compared to England, 4.1 million (for Ireland proper aka the republic - the whole island, 5 million) compared to 61 million for the United Kingdom. England is vastly more urbanized than Ireland, today. However, (3) some statisticians think the population of Ireland was considerably larger then. The largest estimate of the pre-famine population of Ireland was 8 million, while England and Wales at the time were 16 million (Scotland not included). That would make this wave somewhat larger, to about the same size. (4) The total Irish population in the world is now more like the same size as the population of GB, estimates run up to 70 million. In the US and the dominions etc. Clouded of course, by that total not being remotely all Irish, but mixed.

The Top ten reasons they chose to live in the US.
10. Gas is much cheaper
9. More personal freedom
8. Taxes are much cheaper
7. Fewer people on welfare and fewer poor people
6. Health Care and hospitals are far superior
5. Conservative values
4. Clothes, Food utilities is much cheaper.
3. Ability to participate in politics and change laws.
2. Ability to change personal circumstances through education and hard work. (American Dream)
1. Fewer immigrants that are unwilling to assimilate. England has been overrun by immigrants from third world countries and European Union. Muslims are setting out make England a muslim country and will do it any way they can.

Yes but mostly people moving to NYC are European and Latino immigrants before they resettle elsewhere in the United States.

It's far too expensive to stay there for long and there are better (and cheaper) opportunities in other places, especially in the American South.
