Homosexuality Common in the Wild, Scientists Say
Fox News ^
Posted on 05/19/2008 5:14:35 PM PDT by Pizonce11
As gay couples celebrate their newfound right to marry in California and opposition groups rally to fight the ruling, many struggle with this question: Is homosexuality natural?
On this issue, Nature has spoken: Same-sex lovin' is common in hundreds of species, scientists say.
Roy and Silo, two male chinstrap penguins at New York's Central Park Zoo, were a couple for about six years, during which they nurtured a fertilized egg together (given to them by a zookeeper) and raised the young chick that hatched.
According to University of Oslo zoologist Petter Böckman, about 1,500 animal species are known to practice same-sex coupling, including bears, gorillas, flamingos, owls, salmon and many others.
If homosexuality is natural in the animal kingdom, then there is the question of why evolution hasn't eliminated this trait from the gene pool, since it doesn't lead to reproduction.

Eating your own young is common in the wild too. Expect the California Supreme Court to legalize it next.

Okay, so you can find examples of abnormality and unnaturalness in other species. So? That doesn’t make it right or a good thing for one guy to stick his jolly roger up another’s pooper.

Unless one can talk to the animals (Dr. Doolittle), we can't be sure what they're trying to accomplish with male to male interactions.
And which animal interactions should we mimick? Cannibalism? Eating excrement? Come to think of it, human homosexuals do that already, Jeffrey Dahmer; etc.

Amazing that these "scientists" are not aware of the fact that that is how baby penguins are hatched in the wild while the mothers go out and look for food. Apparently they don't watch Animal Planet.

I call BS on this. It is not common for animals of the same sex to ‘pair up’. They might hang out together, but that is not the same thing and bonding with a mate and actually ‘mating’. I have watched literally hundreds of hours of nature documentaries and never has this been mentioned. Species don’t get very far by being homosexual.

Animals also practice segregation. They don't mix with species not like themselves.
Is the gay mafia sure they want to go down this road?
To: Pizonce11
I googled "Petter Böckman" and all I get is this gay animal story. I wonder how he takes it? Not only that but animals are subject to rut not romantic sexual desire. They could hump their own sex like a dog humps a persons leg.
If the animals don't know any better it does not provide an excuse for people.

Polygamy is also natural in the sense that male animals often secure & maintain a 'harem' of females for breeding purposes. This pushes immature males to the periphery where, in some species, homosexual behavior may be observed.
Evidently these scientists haven't noticed that humans invented a little thing called 'civilization'.

As gay couples celebrate their newfound right to marry in California and opposition groups rally to fight the ruling, many struggle with this question: Is homosexuality natural? This is entirely the wrong question. If our standards as humans are to be set by whatever animals do, then killing infants fathered by other men in the neighborhood should be OK. Ripping out the throat of your boss to become the new, department supervisor is OK. And, eating your husband after he has sex with you would be just fine.
Why does article have anything to do with what humans should do, as opposed to what they might want to do?
To: Pizonce11
I’d like to take note that homosexual marriage has not been accepted in a single society on earth at any time in history save the last 15-years or so in a few secular nations whose family structure is so inherently flawed as to be incapable of doing something so basic as producing the next generation.
That to me says something about the place for “gay marriage” in a functional, healthy human society.
To: Pizonce11
This means that homosexuals should all be put in zoos.

Id like to take note that homosexual marriage has not been accepted in a single society on earth at any time in history...That's because "marriage" has never been a "right".
It's always been an obligation, intended to be undertaken by a male and a female prior to engaging in behavior which might be reasonably expected to produce children.
No activity by a homosexual couple can be reasonably be expected to prodduce children.
An obligation, not a right.

“same-sex coupling”
Every time I’ve looked into one of these claims I find a homosexual who is trying to pretend his behavior is “natural”. Not once have I found that any animals that have a common behavior of attempting to form a mating pair bond (reproductive behavior) with a member of their own sex. I CALL BS.
