At that time, we were required to go thru Saudi customs inspections.
The young soldier's Book of Psalms was confiscated by a Saudi Customs officer and discarded, quite casually, into a spit-stained, coffee-stained, all-kinds-of-nasty-stuff trash can.
It joined several other books, one of which I recognized as a Holy Bible, of the type given to young servicemembers by the Chaplain, back in those days.
Resting squarely on the "Holy" portion of the print was a huge loogie, probably from one of the Saudi Customs officers.
I was astounded and shocked, but kept my mouth shut, as we had been threatened with severe action, via the State Department, if we caused any type of scenes.
I imagine just the fact that the young airman had the Book of Psalms got him into trouble with someone.
I strongly believe that the word of God is held within one's heart and a Bible is simply a conveyance of words and I think of the koran the same way.
The difference of course, is that the Bible is the word of God, whereas the koran is the crazed musings and babbling of a perverted child-molesting idiot-satan.
So, until I see or read of an apology from the Saudis for their actions, which continue to this day, I could care less what happens to a koran.
In fact, if you go to the CAIR site, you can request your own, sent to you at their expense.
You may then desecrate at your leisure.
