Border fence gets razor wire

The U.S. Border Patrol is installing razor-sharp concertina wire atop border fencing between San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico, marking a major shift in approach along a frequently violent stretch of the border.

The triple-strand wire, which is meant to keep smugglers from attacking agents, will stretch five miles when completed this summer - the longest expanse of this kind of wire ever used on the Southwest border.

Federal authorities have avoided using fortifications with such negative symbolism. Hundreds of miles of new barriers going up in other areas have had to meet "aesthetically pleasing" federal design standards.

Critics say the new approach is inhumane and could leave immigrants bloodied. Border officials in San Diego say it was necessary and already is proving effective. They opted to augment the existing fencing with razor wire amid escalating violence from Colonia Libertad, one of Tijuana's most notorious smuggling enclaves.

The triple-strand wire, which is meant to keep smugglers from attacking agents,

Oh well excuse me. And I here I thought it was meant to deter foreign invaders.

By all means we should be politically correct while terrorists enter our country to destroy us from within our own borders.

How much did those FIVE MILES of wire cost the US taxpayer? I’m sure that will solve the invasion of illegals on the southern border. Pathetic.

Maybe we should erect a concrete wall with broken glass and bottles on top. They know what that is.

This would be comic of this issue wasn’t so serious.

Also from the article: Immigrant rights groups call the new fencing a major move toward border militarization. They say it's not the solution.

''Immigrant rights groups'' is another euphemism. They're actually illegal alien enablers with a hidden agenda. I'd like to see razor wire along the entire fence. Making the fence as impenetrable as possible is the humane thing to do so people won't put themselves at the mercy of the drug smugglers and coyotes, not to mention the elements.

Critics say the new approach is inhumane and could leave immigrants bloodied.

They are not immigrants, they are illegal aliens breaking the law coming here without permission. When they get here they break more laws by committing ID theft, fraud and income tax evasion.

The way for these illegal aliens to avoid being "bloodied" by the wire is for them to stay in their own country until they can come here legally.
