At a sparsely attended campaign event in Beaufort on Friday, Republican U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham promised he would work to solve the nation's immigration problems if reelected and pooh-poohed speculation that Arizona Sen. John McCain would tap him as a presidential running mate.
About 30 people showed up to Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park to meet the senator during a Lowcountry boil his campaign sponsored. Mike Passanite, owner of Boundary Street Pizzaria, catered the event and said he was told to expect about 125.
Norma Stewart of Sun City Hilton Head said rain in southern Beaufort County probably kept many people home.
"And Sun City people, we melt," she joked while miming fear of raindrops.
In an interview before delivering his stump speech, Graham defended his conservative bona fides -- the target of June 10 Republican primary opponent Buddy Witherspoon -- and said his record speaks for itself on fiscal and social issues.

Who is McCain going to pick?
Nice to see good news about grahamnesty. 30 is too many. Free pizza perhaps?
Is there any chance this guy might actually lose his primary?
ping.
They must really love Pizza to endure that.
I heard that the 30 people who were there actually just got off a bus and promptly moved on to their next stops. I can’t imagine even 2 people stopping to listen to Lindsey “Shamnesty” Graham say anything coherent.
If grahamnesty is reelected he will once again be for any amnesty bill or amnesty rider that is attached to a bill. Get rid of him this Nov.!
Pizza? No even better, according to the article it was Lowcountry boil also known as Frogmore Stew. I LOVE the stuff!
Reminds me of summers in Charleston and Hilton Head.
Lowcountry Boil
4 pounds small red potatoes
5 quarts water
1 (3-ounce) bag of crab boil seasoning
4 tablespoons Old Bay seasoning
2 pounds kielbasa or hot smoked link sausage, cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces
6 ears of corn, halved
4 pounds large fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined optional
Cocktail sauce
Add potatoes to large pot, then add 5 quarts water and seasonings. Cover pot and heat to a rolling boil; cook 5 minutes. Add sausage and corn, and return to a boil. Cook 10 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
Add shrimp to stockpot; cook 3 to 4 minutes or until shrimp turn pink. Drain. Serve with cocktail sauce. Serves 12.
“Free Pizza”
Free Chimichangas!
I might have gone to eat free Lowcountry boil, pizza probably not. ;)

Shoot, I might listen to hildabeast if they serve that!
Linsey showed he was just another politician, that is one more seat that the Republicans will lose.
A good belly laugh is my only response. The article says it all. Are they sure those 30 weren’t standing in line to use the toilet?
BWahahahahaa!
Bussed them in?
Ooh, Ooh! I know! Illegals voting for the people Americans don't want to vote for...
Shame on you....now I want shrimp.
I would have posted a picture but I don’t know how. ;)
I would have preferred Lowcountry boil for supper, but I had chicken salad.
Funny that you could feed the crowd at a political rally with basically 10 pounds of food. Good goin’ Lindsay!
I wonder of he planned for more, but 30 is all that showed up. WOW that restauranteur’s family had the good eats for leftovers.
I'm surprised he didn't cancel so he could be at Kennedy's bedside just in case his buddy needed his pillow adjusted.
So do I. :)
Shhhh. We are supposed to be praying for Teddy’s good health and a full recovery so he can continue his traitorous ways.
Don’t forget to toss in un-peeled cloves from a couple of heads of garlic.
The caterer was told to expect to feed 125.
30 people indeed!!!
Take a bow Lindsey, you worked hard for it!!
Maybe you will be welcome south of the border.
They should have touted it as an illegal immigrants luncheon. He would’ve got more than 30 then.
Buddy Witherspoon sounds great and I’d like to contribute for his primary against Goober. OTOH let’s just say my funds are not unlimited so I’d like to know if you think he has a chance of dumping Goober. If so, I’m in.
I'll miss him as much as Trent Lott or Ted Kennedy.
I’ve seen a few vehicles around here with “Dump Lindsey” bumper stickers (I’m upstate). The Lowcountry is generally not as conservative as the Upstate though. Most of the Dems are downstate.
Our only hope is to turn out as many people as possible to not vote for Lindsey, if he doesn't get 50%+1 in the primary he has to face the next highest challenger in a runoff. It's an uphill battle, Lindsey has lots of money and name recognition. The dems aren't even fielding a candidate, they're happy with numb-nuts.
A US Senator can’t get more than 30 people when offering FREE FOOD? Damn, he’d better be handing out $100 bills next time if he actually expects people to show up......
I wish you would not have posted that, I am having unChristian thoughts in that direction. I am ashamed of myself.
No, really...
Yikes...
It’s a good sign, but how many people are attending Buddy Witherspoon’s rallies?
Don’t know. But you gotta like a man named Buddy more than one named Lindsey
Sorry. Say a quick prayer for Mary Jo as penance.
You’ve done your good deed today by posting that recipe. Thanks!
Here, I’ll return the favor:
Crab Chilau
(pronounced something like : SHA l’ouuuugh)
This is a dish that has been handed down through my family. I do know that it is only found here in Florida and is very popular with the Spanish community.
24 large cleaned blue crabs or 2 pounds of fresh crabmeat
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
3 cloves of garlic, minced
2 potatoes, diced
1 can (48 ounces) tomatoes with puree
1 can tomato paste
1 jalapeno pepper, chopped
hot sauce- (Tabasco works or Crystal sauce for authentic Tampa flavor)
Sugar to taste
2 bay leaves
salt & pepper to taste
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning (or Zatarain’s Crab boil seasoning)
1 cup red wine
2 pounds spaghetti, cooked and drained
In a large stock pot, heat olive oil and saute onion, bell pepper and garlic until tender. Add can of tomatoes with tomato paste, jalapeno pepper, potatoes, hot sauce, sugar, bay leaves, salt/pepper, oregano, Old Bay seasoning and red wine.
Bring to a boil; reduce heat to simmer; cook, stirring occasionally, until thick, about 2 hours.
Add blue crabs to sauce 30 minutes before end of cooking time.
Serve over cooked spaghetti.
Beware!!!! This is a very messy dish when served with crabs. We take this outside on a newspaper covered picnic table. And don’t wear any clothes that you care about. They won’t survive the meal.
Recipes are way more interesting than Lindsey Graham anyway.
Gramnesty's so bad and Witherspoon sounds so good, I think I've just gotta do it. If there was absolutely no chance, I'd rather spend what I have where it'll matter; but I want this guy in as much as I want Goober out and I think we all know how much that is!
We just had some Frogmore stew at the Horry County Republican Party Meet the Candidates night. That Frogmore had clams, shrimp, and crawfish in it.

Looks good. Mine is usually covered in so much Old Bay that the corn has red color. No tongs over here, it’s bare hands and if you don’t get enough it’s your own fault.
We make our sauce “light pink” — gotta get the nose running.
That photo is torturing me right now.
