Tennessee Senator Takes On His Own Party (Corker wants 'hands off' Michelle Obama)
NY Times ^ | 5/19/08 | Kate Phillipts

Posted on 05/19/2008 3:52:59 PM PDT by pissant

Talk about internecine upset.

The office of Senator Bob Corker, Republican from Tennessee, has weighed in today, siding with Senator Barack Obama’s objections to the state’s G.O.P. Web campaign against Michelle Obama.

To recap, the officialdom of the Tennessee G.O.P. posted a Web spot that mines remarks Mrs. Obama made in February that “first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country.” The ad repeats footage of her speaking those words, interspersed with comments from Tennesseans, talking about how they’ve always been proud to be an American.

Her comments have been reverberating for nearly three months or so now, ricocheted around in some Democratic and Republican circles as a question mark on Mr. Obama’s patriotism (along with that flag lapel pin issue).

This morning, on ABC’s “Good Morning America” program, Mr. and Mrs. Obama sat down for an interview and were asked about the Tennessee Web ad. The enduring words for Mr. Obama — who reached out his hand at one point toward his wife’s knee to answer the question himself — were “Lay Off My Wife.”

Why is it that the women of North Carolina and Tennessee have more cahones than the men?

Fine, but I think the left has already started attacking Cindy McCain. Either BOTH are off limits or neither.

We conservatives are in for a first-class slaughter this coming fall. I’m not as worried about the White House as I am about both houses of congress. We’re in for a whoooooopin’. There’s not a single conservative Republican speaking up about this nonsense that Hussein Obama’s babbling about. Not one. We’re in for a major shellacking in November. Imagine dummocratic control of both houses, filibuster proof, passing the most ridiculous agenda through both houses WITH OR WITHOUT A PRESIDENTIAL VETO.

Lord’a mighty, Colonel. We’re in for a beating, higher taxes, destruction of our medical system, defeat in Iraq, and a major terrorist attack on our own soil. These traitors are out of control! And the republican party is standing around with their fingers up their addresses. Where the hell are they!!!!??!??!??!?!?!?!?

Right on. The GOP no longer exists as far as I’m concerned. We just got back from Ft. Benning, welcoming our son and his unit back from their 2nd combat deployment in Iraq. My rage at Congress is palpable. As we met these young (and not so young) warriors I couldn’t help but think of how they’ve been betrayed by the scum in Congress.

There WILL be a day of reckoning, I will remember those young men of his unit whose lives were cut short. We knew them too, they were not faceless strangers. I WILL remind the Congress scum of their cowardice and betrayal by letter, by phone and in person every chance I get. I can do no less for the memories of those who gave all and those who were greviously wounded in this fight and who wish TO GO BACK YET AGAIN.

There have been great improvements, they want to FINISH THE MISSION...

Stick a cork in it. She’s made herself an issue by giving campaign speeches all over the place lecturing the rest of us on how bad everything is and what a lousy place Amerikkka is. And we’re supposed to just shut up and pretend she’s some shrinking violet who can’t be attacked?

She’s as much of a nightmare as he is. Maybe even worse.

This brings back (frustrating) memories of Bill Clinton (and his surrogates) warning Bob Dole "not to go there" and bring up Clinton's lack of character as a campaign issue. Like an obedient pet, Dole agreed "not to go there". The result: The Clintons got to neutralize what would have been a strong attack on his suitability to be reelected, and Dole got nothing in return.

Note to leaders of The Stupid Party: Do not let your opponent dictate the boundaries of your campaign (unless you want to lose, that is) any more than you would permit your enemy in wartime to dictate where and when you were allowed to attack. Michelle Obama's hatred of America is fair game. Barack Hussein Obama's hatred of America is also fair game. Do not leave your best weapons sheathed. Neither the Demo/Commies nor the voters will give you anything of value in return for holding your fire...

This is easy. If they make politcal speeches they are politicians. Mrs. Obama happens to be a politician who doesn't like her country very much.

Corker is just another RINO weasel with a death wish for the party. Does he ever get riled up and issue “demands” over the countless truly egregious and outrageous lies pouring forth from the Demagogues and the MSM? No, of course, not, it’s only when his own party has a simple, ACCURATE, and valuable ad that he lets his panties get all twisted.

At least he knows how to get favorable mention in the NY Times — that is a valuable talent for any real Republican. /s

Obama should tell Michelle to be his demure little helpmate, or stay home, and shut up. If she voices her controversial opinions, she is fair game. If Corker doesn’t like it, let him keep his mouth shut about her. Michelle is an anti American, black liberationist, racist bigot, and so is Obama.

If Corker doesn't like it, then he is guilty of running interference for an anti-American, black liberationist racist bigot.

There's simply no other way to put it.

Corker might be willing to turn the country over to the anti-American socialists without a fight...but I'm not.

Did you notice today the cable news hype was about an angry passel of women Hillary supporters that are banding together to “not take it” anymore.

The talking heads keep mentioning a tidbit about Obama that is out there, but of course it probably is just a rumor. hehehe.

If the Clintoons unload a surprise for Barry, they know it can't look like it came from them.

I just cannot see Hillary letting Barry steal “her turn”. So I am waiting.

I just heard this hashed out on H & C. Newt was on, and just reiterated that if a candidate puts his wife out there to the extent that Obama is doing with his wife, she is most certainly fair game.

You’re correct; Cindy McCain is not being used to the extent that Mrs. Obama is (in fact, poor Cindy often looks like a statue, standing next to her husband).

Obama doesn’t like to be questioned, and so he cries “racism” or whatever else he has to, to get people to lay off of the questions. The media accomodates him in this. No one can question him, or they are being “unfair”...it will only get worse, when all the dems are together. If this man wins the nomination, our country is going to explode! I really believe this. Obama is a marxist who will NOT be questioned! They will riot in the streets if he isn’t elected. They will protest if he is questioned, and remember how the clintons used the government to get rid of their enemies....that was nothing compared to what this islamic sympathizer will do.

I wish I was exaggerating. Corker was on track to losing in 2006 had Junior not made the critical error of attempting to crash a Corker event — what Junior wanted was a nice filmed scene (for his ads and the tv news) of being forceably ejected by two big (White) burly security guards — he didn’t get it. What he got was a smiling Corker walking right up to him and turning the tables on Junior and making him look like a petulant and arrogant jerk. Because Corker had that one shining moment, it turned the race around and he won, albeit very narrowly. Despite that, I’ve never trusted Corker in his political career. The Dems thought so highly of him that they tried to recruit him to run for office, but he was too happily ensconced in the RINO establishment.

Picking fights with those in your own party sounds like something the RINO relic presumptive nominee does and would approve of. Maybe Corker is looking to curry favor with that Keating Five Guy and get some consideration for McCain’s number 2.
