Mayors’ Anti-Gun Ad Uses Presidential Candidates’ Words
NY Times ^ | May 19, 2008 | Jim Rutenberg

Mayors Against Illegal Guns — the group that was co-founded by Mayors Michael R. Bloomberg of New York and Thomas M. Menino of Boston — has an interesting new advertisement up and running.

It has old footage of various politicians speaking out against a federal provision that allows those who only occasionally sell firearms — often operating at gun shows — to do so without performing the usual background checks or record keeping, the so-called “gun-show loophole.” The spot features various politicians calling for an end to the provision — there’s footage from 2000 of Senator Hillary Clinton of New York, there’s footage from February of Senator Barack Obama of Illiniois, and … there’s footage from October 2000 of Senator John McCain of Arizona, who just last week spoke in front of the National Rifle Association as part of an effort to court the group and play down his differences with them...

Obama is going to protest this. He doesn’t like ANYONE quoting him. Too dangerous to his political career.

I have a fantasy in which Mr. Bloomberg ignores the new Virginia law regarding pseudo-straw purchases and “sting” operations and actually starts up his anti-gun crap down here again.

Then the Virgina Attorney General issues a warrant for his arrest (which he ignores) and Virginia ends up in a big fight with New Yawk over whether he will be remanded into cutody here for trial. The U.S. Supreme Court eventually finds in favor of Virginia, and Mr. Bloomberg ends up with a felony conviction and does 10 years in prison in Virginia.

I guess I have an over-active imagination. But he’s still a nim-rod.

I live in Nevada and I’ve been to gunshows here. It didn’t matter WHO was selling a gun. NOBODY could buy one at the show unless they had their ATF card proving they had already done their background check. And if you didn’t have a card, you had to have the gun shipped to you after the check was done.

And THIS is the our big problem? Like gang members are showing up at gun shows to buy bags full of guns from ‘occasional’ sellers? Puuhhlleeezzzeee! Instead of getting behind serious sentences for those who use guns in the commission of a crime, the big city libs would rather find new ways to restrict the constitutional rights of law abiding people.

In Philly, newly elected Mayor Michael Nutter campaigned on a platform of reducing crime in the largely black area of N Philly by allow police to question and search young men found hanging out on the street corners. Since Nutter was black, this sounded like he was actually willing to get tough on the black hoodlums who are doing most of the killing in Philly. But once in office, he suddenly got amnesia and now he is calling for new bans on gun ownership for ALL citizens and creating criminal penalties for homeowners who are robbed and have their guns stolen and used in crimes. (No, the police aren’t planning on investigating the home robberies but they do want to make it unsafe to owner a firearm in a city where the police will not protect you)

Good gawd-a-mighty this issue is getting weary. The stoo-pod sheeple would think that criminals use gunshows as their sole point of acquisition for firearms.

O.K. then. I think we've all been to enough gun shows to know that you often carry a rifle that you've either bought or sold. Either way, it's in your hands, on your person, in plain view. A lot of people stop and ask about it. It's not as if you have to set up a table. Even if they prohibit carrying about guns at a gun show (if that's not stupid enough), you can still find buyers without carrying the weapon in.

This whole issue only proves that a certain number of imbecilic idiotic mayors can spend a lot of money on ink, paper and postage for the distribution of pure, unadulterated BULLSHIT.

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg is the admitted leader of a straw purchase gang.

Now if any of us did this we'd be in prison!

Why isn't Bloomberg up on racketeering/conspiracy charges?

Why isn't the BATFE cavity searching this guy?

Must be nice to be “in the club” and not one of the “little people”...

Mayors Against Illegal Guns

Yeah, that's a tough position for any mayor to take: being against anything illegal.

Harvard professor Tom Lehrer put it well:

It takes a certain amount of courage to get up ... and come out in favor of the things that everybody else in the audience is against like peace and justice and brotherhood and so on.

...

Everyone of us cares.
We all hate poverty, war, and injustice,
Unlike the rest of you squares.

I really hate to say that you are in error but you are. I have bought weapons from people who were walking around inside gun shows here in Reno without bothering to go through one of the tables where a FFL dealer sat. How did I do this? We discussed a price, then went outside and I asked to see his drivers license (to verify he was a Nevada resident)then I paid him for the weapon.

Did I commit a crime? NO, because private sales are legal in Nevada.

The people settle for laws that allow a state or fed entity to allow them to carry. One more law to reverse a bad law passed earlier. All laws that prohibit the carrying of weapons is null and void, according to that nasty Constitution.
Why the supposed right supports more laws to overthrow other bad laws I ‘ll never know.

I certainly did not mean to call him a hunter.

Thank you for the correction.

My dictionary also gives an definition for INFORMAL use of Nimrod as: a person regarded as silly, foolish or stupid.

While that decribes Mr. Bloomberg perfectly, I now know the PRIMARY definition of the word, so I shall henceforth choose a differnt insult (Lord knows there are plenty of them out there). Hunting is an honorable sport and I do not which to EVER include Mr. Bloomberg and ANYTHING honorable in the same sentence.

Please accept my apology. I meant no offense to you or any other hunter.
