Governor(Schwarzenegger) backs same-sex marriage ruling
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | May 17, 2008 | Matthew Yi

A day after the state Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples should have the right to marry in California, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Friday that he supports the court's decision even though his personal view is that "marriage is between a man and a woman."

Advocates of same-sex marriage have praised Schwarzenegger for embracing Thursday's decision, which overturned a voter-approved law allowing only opposite-sex marriage. They also expect him to make good on his promise last month to help fight a new initiative, aimed for the November ballot, that would overturn the court's ruling.

But the Republican governor's stance on same-sex marriage has been curious and confusing to many people. Since his election in 2003, Schwarzenegger has twice vetoed bills to legalize marriage for homosexual couples.

Last month, he appeared to make an about-face, placing himself in the spotlight when he told a group of gay Republicans that he would campaign against the Limit on Marriage initiative. Backers of the measure have submitted more than 1 million signatures to the secretary of state's office, which will decide next month whether the initiative qualifies.

The question is whether the secretary of state will engage in any shenanigans in the validation process for the constitutional amendment initiative.

The Democrats have a strong interest in keeping that off the ballot. California isn’t as solidly “blue” as they’d like, and the last thing they want is to give Republicans a reason to turn out. If Obama has to spend a lot of time and money just to hold on to California, he’ll be at a huge disadvantage.

When the latest legal shuffling came down, he said he would respect the decision of the Judges, and now has, over the vote of the people... and won’t support a measure to reaffirm that vote yet again,, altho he still claims to not support ‘gay marriage’ in the first place.

He is the original ‘Girlie man’, what can ya say?

I am proud to say that I voted against this RINO in the first election-the recall election. I voted for him in the second election-only to keep someone worse out of the office. This guy is a total jerk and a total fraud. He is in no way a conservative. He said he was going to go to Sacramento and clean house. Well he is the one that got rolled.

Wow. What a fence-sitter this loser is. He supports judicial activism for a position that is precisely the opposite of his own personal belief? What a liar and a fraud.

“He supports judicial activism for a position that is precisely the opposite of his own personal belief?”

And supports judicial activism that overthrows the will of the people, as demonstrated in the I&E they passed by 60%.

He’s just another RINO too afraid of legalese and intelligent debate to put the judiciary in place. It has been this acceptance of their authority in legislative matters that has gotten us in this mess.

Schwarzenegger Now Opposes Ban on Gay Marriage

California’s Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) has come out against a citizen initiative aimed at banning gay marriage in the state. His new position puzzled many observers. Previously, the Governor had vetoed legislation that would have legalized gay marriage.

Schwarzenegger explained that “I was given a penetrating analysis by a member of the Log Cabin Republicans that just ‘blew me away.’” The governor proclaimed himself “more receptive to the idea” and said that the LGBT (Lesbian, gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) movement could count on his backing should the need arise. “I will terminate the initiative,” Schwarzenegger boasted.

Is it me or is Arnold’s comment full of rather Freudian slips like “penetrating” and “blew me away”?

This whole thing is laughable. It is insanity. Our society is circling the drain. I keep looking to the sky nervously and wondering when we will see the hand of God racing towards this continent to utterly wipe it clean.

This reminds me of what it will be like if I vote for McCain. I’d rather have a wolf as president, than a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Red Arnold is out of step with the Republican Party and the views of most Californians. Marriage is not just a private union between a man and woman. Its a public affirmation of the importance of generational continuity and the obligations involved in establishing a family. This is what makes marriage has it has existed unique. No one species on the planet is capable of undertaking a lifelong relationship the way human being can. By its very nature, a heterosexual union differs in kind and character from a homosexual union and to contend the two are substantiatively equal is nonsense from a biological and and a moral point of view. We all know marriage is matter of the highest public concern and the externalities - social order, marital uniqueness, family maintainance and a world welcoming of and protective of children - all underline the state of true marriage. A world that ignores these things will slide slowly but surely into oblivion. Every society has viewed the union of a man and woman as a moral safeguard against its own decline. We abandon it to our own peril.
