Republicans should run on the price of oil (not away from it). --Vanity
self

Posted on 05/16/2008 5:46:30 PM PDT by Shqipo

During the run-up to the 2006 elections, future Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi made definitive promises that if Democrats won leadership of Congress, they had a plan to lower gas prices. In November 2006, a gallon of gas cost approximately $2.20; it soon will double. In lieu of the current strategy (or lack thereof) of RNC Chairman Mike Duncan, Senator Mitch McConnell, and House Minority leader John Boehner, I propose the following: "Stop apologizing for Democratic mistakes and start campaigning on them!"

--Openly challenge Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Howard Dean to a televised debate (and keep shaming and challenging them until they accept), whereby both parties can voice their short and long-term strategies for solving our nation's energy issues. Let the people judge.

--Run campaign ads reminding Americans of Pelosi's failed promises, the continued blockage of American drilling, and graphically display the price we are paying for allowing Dems 12 years ago to block the 1 million gallons per day of gasoline that would be flowing from ANWR today.

This is the most acute issue on many voters' minds. Two thoughts are better than the none emmanating from the Republican leadership. They need to stand up on this issue or step down, and if we're going down in November I want my party to go down swinging.

“I propose the following: “Stop apologizing for Democratic mistakes and start campaigning on them!”

That would require two things that damned few elected Repubes have.

Testes.

I agree......if the republicans had 1 single ball among them we would be beating the crap out of these communist/socialist liars

Democtras and most environmentalists are ENEMIES of our country trying to bring it down from within....why the hell is everyone so damn afraid to say so...

Lack of something... I see a theme developing. I'm tired of having to listen to the same Whine & Cheesers that always block all drilling bemoaning gas prices. Instead of our Pols, maybe we can just send Glen Beck or somebody.

Be a bad thing to do;

Dims would bring up Ben Bernanke and his idiotic attack on the U.S. dollar, and the effect the dollar’s plunge has had on the cost of crude oil in dollars...

There's an oxymoron in there somewhere. Even one idea and a little bit of verve is better than the current "working" plan.

Sir: You are Correct.
Take it to the Liberals; call it "the Pelosi Premium"

Gas/Oil prices...up 52%....food cost climbing higher
....drill...drill and drill some more!....criticizing GWB, doesn't increase supply by one barrel

You’re saying what’s on all our minds. A once in a lifetime opportunity for leadership. Declare that in 10 years America will be energy independent. It is doable (I understand.) People will get behind a true Leader and defeat the Nobel Peace Prize winning doomsayers.

Here's a press release.

“Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices by cracking down on price gouging, rolling back the billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies, tax breaks and royalty relief given to big oil and gas companies, and increasing production of alternative fuels.” (April 24, 2006)

From The Hill:

In a press release dated April 24, 2006, Pelosi said, “Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices by cracking down on price gouging, rolling back the billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies, tax breaks and royalty relief given to big oil and gas companies, and increasing production of alternative fuels.”

Wow, who knew? My cat roars louder than that press release. I want them to say it on TV shows, pointing stern fingers, and cussing out Lib media types for their not asking Pelosi if she was lying in 2006, or if she has simply failed miserably leading Congress in this charge.

It was an arrogant boast at best and an exercise in naked demagoguery at worst. Or just another example of the inherent nanny state mentality that typifies the Democrat party.

In any case, this does deserve serious media attention, though I'm not expecting it.

Mighty hard for Juan McCain to vote against drilling in ANWR and blast the RATS on energy policy and restricting domestic supply. . . IMHO

I would add to that the idiotic EPA rules that mandate dozens, if not hundreds of special blends of gasoline in different parts of the country, leading to increased prices for us all. Of course, the current situation regarding oil prices is exactly what many on the left have been working for, for years. They want to price you right out of your SUV.

Cuba with the aid of the Chinese, are preparing to drill of the Florida coast. And America can't drill there because of environmental regulations and opposition from the tourist industry. You want to anger the great American majority? Scream this at them now that we have $4 gasoline.
