A labor-union campaign in Colorado to tighten restrictions on layoffs and ... could put Democrats in an awkward position as they gather here in August for their presidential convention.
Unions are pushing to get a total of six measures on the fall ballot, all of them opposed by small-business owners and corporate interests.
"If they pass, it would be like putting a big 'Do Not Locate Your Business Here' sign on Colorado," ...
Big labor groups said they will pump as much as $35 million into Colorado to pass their own measures and defeat a rival initiative promoted by business interests. That puts pressure on Democrats, who get labor backing ...
One measure would make Colorado only the second state in the union, after Montana, to require that employers prove every layoff is for a "just cause."
A second measure holds executives personally responsible if they fail to prevent their firms from committing misdeeds, such as polluting a river or cooking the books. Backers said this would be the strongest corporate-fraud law in the nation, subjecting executives to both criminal prosecution and civil lawsuits.
another union representing food and commercial workers is pushing four additional ballot measures. They would require all employers to give annual cost-of-living raises, mandate health coverage at any business with more than 20 employees, permit injured workers to sue outside the workers' compensation system, and raise property taxes on businesses.

Unions, dhimmocrats, and Muslims...all equally worthless.
And this after Colorado voters stupidly passed a CFR ballot initiative of their own. What exactly did it accomplish? Nothing as far as I can tell.
So, do they think they can get a law passed after this to FORCE businesses to locate in Colorado?
Because they certainly aren’t going to go there by choice.
Montana?? I thought Montana was an oasis of sanity?
Colorado has historically been a great state to live and do business in. But in the past several years, waves of liberals have relocated here, bringing with them the same socialist ideas that ruined the places they fled.
Hell I certainly wouldn’t. CA is already off limits... CO is welcome to be another - midwest and south will benefit. Happy trails to CO.
Weakened frivolous lawsuit provisions, aiding trial and class-action lawyers with no penalties for pursuing windfalls
Unionized the State Workers, protecting them
Raised income taxes; raised car registration fees; raised hunting and fishing license fees; raise auto taxes
let illegal immigrants vote, use free benefits, clog up our schools
raised our property taxes enormously
The media covers this up and constantly tells us how great things have become here. More crime, more poverty, trash everywhere from the illegals, gang warfare, lawsuits galore, teachers firemen and policemen making six figure salaries with full benefits for life. Essentially, we are becoming Detroit.
Things have gotten very bad in the last year.
Colorado needs to be made more business friendly. If these pass in November since I am currently unemployed, I may have to kiss Colorado goodbye ! I am getting pressure from family to move somewhere else but the downside, I would take a bath on my house since the housing market is in the dump !
Montana has problems with unions, liberal academia, and newbie California liberals...
