What a waste of taxpayers dollars. If the government can lie to us, we should be able to lie to them.

Feds file new indictment against Barry Bonds
By Howard Mintz
San Jose Mercury News
Article Launched: 05/13/2008 05:02:56 PM PDT

Federal prosecutors today returned to the field in their perjury case against former San Francisco Giants superstar Barry Bonds, filing a fresh indictment to address a federal judge’s concern that the previous charges were legally flawed.

For Bonds, the new indictment contains the same central allegations, but now hits baseball’s all-time home run leader with 15 felony charges instead of the five contained in the original indictment returned last November by a federal grand jury in San Francisco. Bonds is expected to be arraigned on the new indictment June 6.

The legal implications for Bonds remain the same under the new indictment - he faces the possibility of federal prison for allegedly lying to a federal grand jury in December 2003 about using steroids. Bonds was among dozens of athletes called to testify in the Balco steroids scandal.

The revised indictment, however, will push the case forward after months in limbo, although Bonds’ high-powered defense team is expected to press other challenges to the prosecution’s case. Bonds previously pleaded not guilty to the perjury charges.

He should hire Bill and Shrillary’s legal team — now there are two perjury freaks who are still walking free, unscathed. “Guilty as sin, free as a bird, what a great country!”

(so said Obamba’s favorite terrorist, Bill Ayers)

Great job by the feds. I feel a lot safer taking my kids out to play now that those dangerous left fielders on steroids hitting a ball have been taken off the streets.

He's out of baseball, nobody's going to sign him, what's the point?

Then indict every player who had skewd stats for a couple years - half the players in the late 90's, early 2000's - would be under the gun.

That is so true; the government gets so honked off when we lie to them but they lie all the time. Like “I’m from the government, I’m here to help you.”

One point to remember. Most state criminal prosecution is 10 Commandment based “Thou shalt not kill”/”Thou shalt not steal.” All Federal prosecution is Sovereignty based: “How dare you object to the authority of the government of the United States to rule your insignificant life.”

Example; Terry McVay, Oklahoma City Bomber, killed over 100 people, and got executed. For murder? No. His crime, as charged?

Destruction of Federal Government Property. The crime was blowing up the building. The result of multiple deaths got him the cot.

What any citizen should do in future circumstances is to plead the 5th in a gubmint hearing and then walk out and vehemently tell any of the vultures in the media that you are innocent. Lie and scream as loud as you want. You can't be prosecuted for lying to bloodsucking reporters looking for a story. No matter the evidence. Nobody will believe a word you say, but at least you won't risk a perjury charge and jail time. Please mail me a check for $450 for my legal advice.

I'm with y'all on this. As if the gub'ment has nothing better to do than to prosecute a *private* citizen engaging in a *private* enterprise (baseball) which does, but shouldn't have, governmental 'oversight' in its operation.

Not that I'm defending Barry ... he's a jerk ... but so was Ted Williams and Ty Cobb and hundreds of others who played in the Major Leagues thruout history. Let Baseball take care of its own problems internally instead of the stoopit government getting involved in something that they really have no business getting involved in. Oh, and if the gub'ment *really* wanted to do something meaningful -- cut MLB loose from that 'antitrust exemption' and let the free market sort it all out on its own ... otherwise, the gov'ment should concentrate its resources on actually doing something productive, for a change, like honoring and upholding their oath to the Constitution!

..... anyway .... /rant off :)

When I posted the story of Roger Clemens testifying before Congress and MLB Mitchell’s report on Breaking News months ago, it got thrown off the sidebar too.

Don’t feel bad. They are not picking on you. Maybe the mods aren’t sports fans, or maybe they think this is some kind of political forum or something. :-)

By your reasoning it was A-OK for Bill Clinton to lie in the Grand Jury testimony and various depositions.

Do I have you down for "Clinton Symp?"

If I were a Congressman, I would at least have the guts to say:

“Hey, look, this is a dog and pony show. I’m looking for some face time on SportsCenter or some sound bites on my local radio station back home. Because of partisan gridlock, which is good, I haven’t been able to do anything for my constituents. I was just hoping that if they saw me on SportsCenter doing something meaningless, they would forgive me for not solving real problems and I would be re-elected.”

ML Baseball is gonna have a real conundrum on its hands soon ... heck, it already has one ... which is "what to do about this crocodile in the room??"

Already, such presumed HOF shoo-in's as McGwire and Clemens are being shunned by the voting committee (well, Clemens isn't eligible yet, but his turn will come), and Bonds can't find a job in MLB at all ...

The *people* have spoken, and they don't like what they see.

It isn't up to the government to enforce this, it'll winkle itself out in the free market ... the government has no business or right in being there, as MLB and its employees are not on the public payroll (via taxation).

Now, if the Feds wanted to do something *really* meaningful:
Drill ANWAR and offshore, authorize Nuclear plants to come online, as well as more refinery construction ... so that we don't have to pay $4+ per gallon just to go to the ballpark to see some HULK hitting a little round ball with a round bat .....

/rant #2 now off :)

He is also stupid. He could have taken the 5th but was to arrogant.

The baseball players association is looking even dumber than Bonds. It is accusing team owners of conspiring against Bonds. It thinks teams should fight to sign him. Crazy

You said it...

Leave it up to the balding middle age sportswriters in the Baseball Writers of America to decide what is cheating and performance enhancing and what is not:

Have any of these balding sportswriters ever:

A. Drank 5 cups of coffee to stay up and try to make a deadline
B. Taken Viagra to get it up
C. Drank a Budweiser to build up the nerve to talk to a pretty woman in a bar and then (see #5 above)
D. All of the above

As you can tell, I don’t like hypocrites. Politicians and sportswriters are hypocrites.

I even forgot to ask how many bloggers and holier than thou sportswriters just walked out of Hair Club for Men or use Rogaine.

This is purely an intellectual discussion. Bonds is a pompous ass and he should go to jail just for being one. There ought to be a law against pompous asses. I get amnesty.
