Senate rejects ANWR drilling Erika Bolstad Modified: May 13th, 2008 03:27 PM WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Senate rejected a Republican energy plan that promised to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil exploration, an option that was part of an overall package to increase domestic energy development.

Well at least McCain will fight global warming! < sarc />
“Instead, the Senate voted 97-1 to temporarily halt oil deposits in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve while prices at the pump continue to climb.
Congress hopes that diverting fuel from the reserves to the open market will increase supply and ease prices at the pump. “
It failed 56-42, with six Republicans joining Democrats.
The Senate is full of idiots, Congress if full of Idiots, Washington D.C. is full of idiots, and America is full of idiots who elect these anti lower prices for gas and oil idiot politicians and the states are not much better.
I guess the Senate likes the idea of killing us with these high prices because they have stock in these companies and monies from foreign sources. These are the morons we voted for?
The ADN doesn’t tell me who voted how....let’s look into where the money is coming from...
Do you know who the 6 dirt bag RINO’s are?
Who are they? They should be hanged over the steps of the capitol building. Fools...
Follow the money.....the less money you have the more power they have over you. Go to a flat tax, set it low, and their power is curshed.
Yeah, who were the 6 scumbags? Bet Maine’s Senators probably were 2 of them.
Let’s see. SPR diverts 60,000 barrels a day. Not drilling ANWR prevents 1 million barrels a day.
Looks like they went for the 6% solution.
Just wanted to repeat this.
ANWR is such an idiotic waste of time. I think the whole ANWR fight is WWE theater. Both sides benefit from having the same pointless fight. ANWR is not going to make a dent in our oil needs. It’s symbolic nonsense. Leave the wildlife refuge alone and go find oil somewhere else. This is so dumb. And I know, the libs will fight oil exploration everywhere else too. OK, fine, but at least you have a leg to stand on if its NOT IN A WILDLIFE refuge. And now you’ll say but the footprint will be small, won’t harm the animals, etc. Too bad. How do you justify going into protected land when there is oil in unprotected land? It’s just dumb as hell and I will be happy when they stop wasting our time with ANWR.
I'm guessing Snowe, Collins, Specter; maybe Warner and Lugar, and perhaps McCain too or a "not voting". I've got maybe 3 of the six....
The only Off-Shore Drilling that will happen with these clowns will be if Teddy Kennedy takes Jenna Jameson out for a ride in his schooner.
Dhimini-crats will work to make certain we rely on ME oil.
They are protecting their 57 States.
Huck, honey, gas is $3.99 here in Michigan. Our economy is kapoot. People can’t afford to drive to their jobs, if they still have one.
Hell, drill in Lake Michigan for all I care! I think Grand Traverse Bay would look real pretty at night with a few wells all lit up!
McCain couldn’t be bothered to vote. I hear he’s running for some office or something.
Our government bitches about OPEC not increasing production but will say no to new production in our on country. No wonder OPEC flips us the bird.
It looks like it is a win-win situation for all involved except US citizens. Conservative republicans and a hand full of democrats get to say we tried. And the RINO’s and the liberal democrat tree hugger’s get to say they stopped it.
Nope.
I have no proof, I am not a geologist, but my gut feel is their is a huge find under one of the lakes.
And no one in Michigan Gooberment has enough sense to go for it and make the state energy independent.
Gas is expensive here in NJ too. But ANWR, even if we ever drilled there, won’t make a dent. It’s political theater and nothing more. Solve the energy crisis and leave the wildlife refuge alone. I am sure both those objectives can be accomplished. Republicans/conservatives go on and on about ANWR ANWR ANWR like a bunch of trained parrots. Ridiculous and pointless, and meanwhile they all still get paid in Congress. People are being duped, imo. Enough with ANWR. Find someplace that isn’t a wildlife refuge and propose drilling there.
Are you on the right forum? Are you a conservative talking like that? I think NOT!
I thought I covered that with a "not voting". Is there something I'm missing?
Tomorrow, if the Senate put ANWR into play even as a symbolic statement, it would help drive down prices do to the speculators knowing the gig is up and this country is starting to get serious about controlling our own oil destiny
It’s sad our political “leaders” don’t understand the basic Econ 101 lesson of supply and demand.
We have a winner! Somebody gets it. This is theater, nothing more, and you are right, they all win, they all get paid, they all get political points, we get wasted time. But the dupes go right along with it. I say leave ANWR the hell alone and find someplace that isn't a wildlife refuge that has oil and propose drilling there.
Meanwhile, hell yes work towards alternative forms of energy. Not boondoggles, but real alternatives. It will happen sooner or later, and we should be on the right side of it, but instead are total curmudgeons just saying no. It's a losing argument and I believe the wrong side of history.
So the Senate votes down drilling in ANWR today and the price of gas at the local pumps shoots up .20 after the news.
Bet if they announced that the drilling will begin the price would have easily DROPPED .20 on the news.

Where else should we look? Don’t forget, it needs to be a place we already know has oil.
Yup. I'm on the right forum. Your attitude is typical though. Adopt every current GOP ploy as an article of faith or else you're an infidel. That's how the GOP plays so many ppl for suckers. Oh, you didn't know they do that? The GOP is pure and only the DEMs are connivers? LOL. Don't make me laugh. ANWR is a joke. It's not going to happen, and they don't care. They're just scoring points and playing ppl like you for fools.
And if the queen had balls...
Seriously, you don't know what the oil market would do under those circumstances. And it isn't going to happen. It's not going to solve our problems. There's no oil anywhere except ANWR? The rest of the oil we need is in ANWR? Of course not. It's a joke.
Senate rejects GOP oil drilling plan (defeated Tuesday by a vote of 56-42)
So there’s no oil anywhere else besides ANWR? Then we better get on the alternative fuel bandwagon, cuz ANWR ain’t gonna hold us for long. lol. What a crock.
I am not dumb and stupid enough.
I'd love some validation, for my few remaining leftist acquaintaces.
Can I have some of what your smoking?
Idiot senators. Is there any way to kick the Feds out of controlling state lands? the idea that 51 boneheads can disrupt commerce in this country is maddening.
“Go to a flat tax, set it low, and their power is curshed.”
That’s why flat tax legislation will never pass — these goons rather destroy the country first before giving up their power.
If you like $4/gal, Thank Congress
Pray for W and Our Troops
I could not agree more. Introducing this type of bill over and over full well knowing the results in advance is political theater and nothing else. Shoot, they couldn't even get it passed when they had control of the legislative and executive branches.
The Repubs are not going to gain anything, especially since they don't use it for political gain in the press , and because those who want to drill in ANWR are probably going to vote Repub anyway.
Just banging heads against the wall.
It just makes the Repubs look stupid to the demoncrats and undecideds (i.e. idiots), and just frustrates conservatives. They need to push for offshore drilling, and loudly point out that other nations are in OUR back yard doing it already.
Another typically brain dead response. Suggest that the GOP might be playing political games and shazam! That must mean I’m high on drugs. Yea, that’s it!
Dole?....????
you’re speaking my language! idiots or spineless b@stards or both
The leadership on both parties in D.C. is just pathetic.
The Senate is a bunch of traitors.
They are the ones causing oil prices to go up with idiocy like this example.
The Senate IS THE PROBLEM! REPLACE THEM!
