Bush disappointed with intel before Iraq war
Yahoo News ^ | May 13, 208 | Yahoo News

WASHINGTON - President Bush said Tuesday he was disappointed in "flawed intelligence" before the Iraq war and was concerned that if a Democrat wins the presidency in November and withdrew troops prematurely it could "eventually lead to another attack on the United States.

In an interview with Politico magazine and Yahoo News, Bush also said he gave up golf in 2003 out of respect for U.S. soldiers killed in the war, which has now lasted more than five years.

"I didn't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf," he said. "I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal."

Comes off poorly to me. What a guy. He gave up golf? Really donned the old hairshirt. How does he handle it without golf? Did he give up sport fishing? It’s just dumb, and anyway a president deserves to do what it takes to make him perform at his best. Dumb. Par for the course, really.

His golf comment may sound silly to some, but it's one of the reasons I like this guy and why I'll miss his class.

He ain't perfect but he takes the gig seriously.

Unlike his narcissist predecessor.

Bush said his "doomsday scenario of course is that extremists throughout the Middle East would be emboldened, which would eventually lead to another attack on the United States."

Spot on!

Yeah Bush is all worried about another attack on the US.

I guess that’s why his administration is DOING NOTHING about sealing off the porous southern border.

And giving the Afghanistan War a low priority. Anybody remember Afghanistan? Y’know, the ROOT CAUSE of 9-11? Because apparently Bush can only remember every Sept. 11th, when he trots out the “we’re gonna get ‘em” speech once again.

Blah, blah, blah.

Totally agree.

We are all big boys, and know the rules of the game before we sign up.

The fact that our CIC doesn't feel comfortable playing golf while our guys are teeing it up in the streets of Iraq, tells you a lot about him as man. I know that it may seem like a stupid gesture, but I appreciate it, and I appreciate the fact that he is thinking about the families of these guys.

I think it is safe to say that we all have our issues with this president, but I am proud to say that he was my boss.

JMHO...

All I want is one simple question answered:

if national security is all-important, why does Bush do nothing about the open southern border? Does he think terrorists are too stupid, or too naive, or too polite to cross into the US that way?

Do you?

Why the constant disconnect between words and deeds??

Thank you for your stated simple question. I worry much more about Our Northern border with Our Utopian Neighbors who let anyone into their country from anywhere. I will not go thru the litany of the numerous acts of Terror perperated on our Nation umder the Clintoon’s 8 years and the taunts by OBL to Clintoon as to what he had to do to convince the Toon that they were at WAR! At any rate, You should praise GOD for Our President who does a great job of protecting You Canucks as well!! Cherrio..

Come on down to the southern border and I will get you a gun and you can go looking for terrorists... but if I was one of them and I thought there was half a chance that you might shoot me or the border patrol might stop me I would get a boat and head into the US the easy way (there is enough coastline to allow me to pick any number of places to come in)

Ok, so we can all forget about the southern border then - Bush’s magic Anti-Terrorist rays simply will stop any threats before they can get across.

Whew, that’s a relief, knowing nothing needs to be done about it - because that’s about the sum total of what IS happening down there.

Why would a Canadian care about our southern boarder? Why haven’t we had a terrorist attack since 9/11? Have we intercepted any middle-eastern terrorists attempting to use Mexico to enter the U.S.? What provisions has the Mexican government taken (both overt and covert) to prevent this? Do any of your posts not relate to hijacking threads using the immigration issue in an effort to bash Bush?

Ike sure did. He had backbone, something sadly lacking in this current crop of GOP leaders. I doubt that a single one of them would even say the name of Eisenhower’s program for removing illegals - Operation Wetback. If Bush or McCain ever mentioned it it would be to apologize and grovel for 10 minutes over the Insensitivity of President Eisenhower.

It tells me also, he's a very smart man. In the early 90s, the lefties were constantly bashing "golfers". Black Coalitions were talking about the demand to have their own "golf clubs". Feminists were (par usual) whining about golf being the "white boys' club", ad nauseum.

Yes, the press would have turned a physical activity, golf, into a bash-Bush fashion plate.

I'm very fond of our President. Daily, I keep he and family in my prayers. I'm grateful for what he has done and what he has been to my country.

He's tootin' right about intel being so flawed, pre-911.

No matter what comes November, his record as a President who did his job well, stands.

“Please elaborate. What do you mean when you say ‘my world of fantasy’? Have I said something incorrect, and if so, what?”

I was commenting on this post of yours which appears to be a sign of outrage at having discovered criticism “in a time of war” no less:

“Well then, going onto the internet and hurling childish personal attacks against our CiC in a time of war is certainly the best strategy I can think of./s”

which I assume is motivated by your fealty to your “CiC”. Evidently you think that bringing up Bush’s indifference, if not outright refusal, to enforce immigration law is somehow a ‘childish personal attack’. More likely you simply hero-worship Bush and don’t want to see any criticism of his behavior, factual or not.

‘Incorrect’ wasn’t the issue, fantasy is, though your statement does have error - “our CiC”. Presidents are the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, not of the American citizenry. The US isn’t an armed camp like Sparta. I’m not in the military, I have no commander, whether chief or inferior. And unless you’re in the service Bush isn’t your CiC either, no matter how much you might idolize the man.
