We need to set up a PAC called “Americans for Energy Independence”. I’ll be willing to spend money on that. So they’ll work against Senators who voted no on drilling ANWR.

I find it hard to be surprised by this when the GOP morons couldn’t get it done when they controlled the house, senate and the white house.

Did anyone really expect the dems to be the champions of drilling in ANWR when they came into power?

This ends the hope of drilling in Alaska for a decade or more. Whomever wins in November they’ve all gone on record as being against drilling.

Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said more domestic oil production is needed to keep prices in check and to reduce U.S. dependence on oil imports.

Maybe, just maybe, you should have considered this when you were in charge Mitch. You are on a fools errand now, but you knew that. Blackbird.

We could get at least a million barrels a day out of ANWR.

At 100 a barrel, that’s 365 BILLION dollars a year into our economy. 365 BILLION dollars that we don’t have to send overseas to pay for oil. 365 BILLION less in trade deficit.

That’s more than the cost of the war for a year.

That’s about the original cost of the prescription drug plan.

That’s a huge amount of money to be passing up.

There’s another million barrels a day to be had in offshore drilling. States who want to drill offshore should be allowed to do so.

Opening up ANWR to oil drilling is in America’s best interests and part of the long term answer to solving our dependency on foreign oil.

Opposing drilling in ANWR -— along with more drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and off the west coast is crazy policy.

I highly suspect McCain voted against it seeing how he’s on the record for saying he doesn’t consider Anwar a long term solution to our oil needs, and he also holds Anwar akin to The Grand Canyon. To be untouched and pristine.

I’d lay money down on him being one of the crossover Republicans that voted against it.

I didn't hear Rush's source of his quote.

Does anyone have the source?

They didn’t get it done while they were in the majority, why think there was a serious hope of this passing now? It was an attempt to score political points, like so many bills. McLame wasn’t smart enough to vote for it, so he shares in any blame.
If this had passed, do you really think it would have resulted in lower oil/gas prices, now or later? But I’ll bet it’s failure will be used as another excuse for prices to go up.
The vast majority on both sides of the aisle are driven by self-interest and preserving the status quo, party affiliation is just a mask.

Gas is $4.00 a gallon, and the Democrats are filibustering against drilling for oil. The Democrats are wholly controlled by environmental groups that lobby in Washington. When the environmentalists get the kick in the tail they’ve earned, we’ll have more energy.

Drill the Bakken. It's not offshore, it's not in Alaska, and it's got more oil than either. It just needs a bigger pipeline; as it's being developed, let the oil companies put their profits into advanced drilling technology to get more oil out of the Bakken.

Oh yeah, I'm Cogitator: meanwhile, develop carbon sequestration and atmospheric CO2 extraction technologies.

Democrats don’t care how high the price of gas goes. They want people to stop buying it. The rich will be the only ones on the road if they have their way.
Dingell in Michigan recently proposed a .50 increase on each gallon. Why would he do that?? For exactly that reason.
THEY DO NOT CARE. ITS WHAT LIBERALS WANT.

In related news...

Iran report pushes oil to new record, gas jumps above $3.73

Oil prices shot to a new record near $127 a barrel Tuesday on concerns that Iran may consider cutting crude oil production. Gas prices, meanwhile, rose to a new record over $3.73 a gallon Tuesday, and their advance shows little sign of slowing with Memorial Day weekend.

Drill domestically? Now why on Earth would we want to do that?
