Clinton focuses on West Virginia; Obama, on future

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The outcome of West Virginia's primary Tuesday may best be foretold by where Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama plan to spend the day.

West Virginia appears to be a perfect demographic fit for Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Clinton is expected to be in Charleston, West Virginia, to celebrate what should be her large victory.

Obama has no plans Tuesday night, but he is spending the late afternoon at a campaign event in Missouri. That state has already voted this primary season but is considered a swing state that Democrats and Republicans have in their sights this November.

Clinton, it seems, is concentrating on the present; Obama is looking to the future.

Polling places in West Virginia opened at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Clinton, from New York, is ahead in West Virginia by an average of 40 points in the most recent public opinion polls.

The title shows what CNN really thinks about West Virginia. I'm surprised they didn't post pictures of outhouses and Shine-stills.

If the polls are correct - Obama will be getting the stink eye from WV voters and KY voters.

It’ll be fun to watch the media try to bury the results of the WV primary like a cat buries poo.

“......and gains about 2 delegates.”

and bragging rights.

She will play this win in the similar way as she did with Florida and Michigan. It means relatively nothing but she will spin it.

Wonder what the story would be if Ron Paul were beating McCain by 40 points in WV or KY?

Obama focuses on “the future”.

Yeah, those rural states are SO yesterday...

I think its going to be these states that will lose it for Obama in the general election. They view him as elistist and out of touch.

West Virginians would not vote for a surrender monkey (Paul) that would curl up in a fetal position to al Qaeda. They might just be country and mountain folks there but they are not stupid or suicidal. Obama’s problem is going to be he has alienated the Caucasian race. This race will be about race because Obama brought it into it.

You remember Jayson Blair's made-up stories about WV, right?

I don't think they view him as "out of touch" so much as they recognize quite clearly the disdain that he has for them.

“Wonder what the story would be if Ron Paul were beating McCain by 40 points in WV or KY?”

I just got back from the polls. They were quite crowded. The AP was even exit polling as I left. I participated.

I voted for the only conservative left in the race - Ron Paul!

I’ve been a big Ron Paul basher here in FR (and still very much dislike what I perceive to be his anti-military, anti-Israel views) but I have to admit, if my state were holding its primary today I would consider voting for Paul, as a protest against McLefty.

I don’t blame Obama...this would be the equivalent of McCain campaigning in Harlem. Blacks will not vote for him over Obama.

We thought that too. When speaking about JFK and W VA she said: “Let me tell you summpin.” I looked at my husband and said this woman is so far out to lunch she actually believes that if she speaks like SHE THINKS THEY SPEAK she will make points. It was blatant and in your face. Good Lord...let us be rid of her once and for all in this campaign.

This gives an idea of how WV stacks up in median income.

West Virginians like Hillary because they can relate to her upbringing as a coal miner’s daughter. Hillary actually spent a good many hours shoveling coal herself. Or was that shoveling BS in Washington? Get confused sometimes.
