Martha Scott To Challenge Rep. Kilpatrick (Detroit Hizzoner's mom)

Michigan Sen. Martha Scott filed petitions Monday to put her name on the Democratic primary ballot for U.S. representative in the 13th District. The person who currently holds that office is U.S. Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (D-Mich.)

Scott has served as mayor of Highland Park, a state representative and now a state senator.

Mary Waters is also running, so it's a three way race which favors hizzoner's mother. All are liberal Detroit (or the very similar Highland Park) democrats, so don't expect much difference on policy views on a national level. This is more about the person than the views.

Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick was the one with the infamous campaign re-election speech for her son Kwame. And I quote...

"He didn't just get up in here by just comin. Y'all sent him up in here. Don't let nobody talk about y'alls boy. Too many people died for us. We here to fight! That's what I'm talkin' about. Turn off that television!"

The sad part....she's better than Barbara Rose Collins, whom she replaced.

Ole Barbie Rose made the mistake of letting lose a bit of honesty when she spoke of her hatred for Whitey. Frankly, it’s better they get it out in the open.

I remember that. She held hizzoner's mom to a lower percentage than Kerry and did well for that district considering she was the wrong party from the wrong city and the wrong race. She took Grosse Pointe Park as well, which voted for John Kerry. That was a good campaign considering she spent below the reporting waiver.
