TEHRAN, Iran Iran has hanged five men convicted of raping and murdering a young woman, a state-owned newspaper reported Monday.
The men were convicted of kidnapping the woman, raping her and then dousing her with gasoline and burning her alive.
The IRAN newspaper reported Monday that the crime was apparently in revenge for the woman's failure to marry one of the men. Her family opposed the union.
The convicts, all aged 19 to 24, were executed Sunday in Qom prison some 84 miles south of Tehran.

Considering how hard it is to convict a man of rape under Sharia law... I would have to say I am impressed.
Although I cannot help but wonder that had the victim survived would she be subject to the same punishment.

Taking this on face value, the perps may well have faced the death penalty here too. Assuming Iran is telling the truth on this case, the crime was premeditated and incredibly cruel.

A small gleam of hope. Although that kind of crime would only be common in a tribalist Muslim country.

Of course, just because Iran says that was their crime doesn’t mean it is so. It could be the condemned were gays caught in the act. Iran said some months ago that they were not going to hang gays for homosexuality. So, they charge them with another crime.

Left off the proper end of the article: “The woman was convicted post mortem of fornication, her body exhumed and hung, then reburied.”
To: nomodem; forkinsocket
I didn’t know whether to believe this either. There’s three articles now, in Middle Eastern countries, that don’t seem to go with mainstream Islam.

If the story is true and they did hang them, at least that government has the power to get it done and over with, instead of letting them sit in prison. I wish our legal system would do the same.

Taking this on face value, the perps may well have faced the death penalty here too. Yeah but here they would be watching HBO for the next 30 years while they appeal their sentance. In Muslim countries they take them out right away and off them.

To: Blood of Tyrants
No, not at all. Are you insinuating that the culture or some of the regimes in the region are cruel? I simply don't believe it...I mean Iran being cruel or having a hostage-taking leader...no, no way.
All joking and sarcasm aside, that is why I said if the story was taken at face value (for all I know, these are made up charges to off a group of people giving the powers that be trouble). Like someone else posted, if the woman had lived, I wouldn't have been surprised if she would've been charged with a crime as well.

Probably not, because she wouldnt be dead, and there would be no murder charges. Under Sharia law a woman who is raped is eligible for the death penalty. That's why I am wondering had she lived, and presumably only rape charges would have been filed, what the outcome would have been.

a) Maybe there wasn't a murder, nor a body. B) There was a murder, body found, but no suspects. And in jail are 5 non-existent homosexuals to blame it on...
Hey, I am just supposing here, but I take little of what Iran says as truth.
