Clinton holds big leads in West Virginia and Kentucky

(CNN) — Even as her campaign appears to be in its final stages, Hillary Clinton is headed for two sweeping victories in West Virginia and Kentucky, the next two states to weigh in on the prolonged Democratic presidential race.

According to new polls released Monday, Clinton holds a 34 point lead in West Virginia and a 27 point lead in Kentucky.

In West Virginia, which votes Tuesday, a Suffolk University Poll has Clinton drawing 60 percent of likely Democratic voters compared to Obama's 24 percent. That poll also shows Clinton holds a 70 percent approval rating among West Virginia’s Democratic primary voters. Only half the state’s primary the state’s likely primary voters think Barack Obama can beat John McCain in a general election matchup.

In Kentucky, a Research 2000 poll shows Clinton winning 58 percent of the vote to Obama's 31 percent. But despite Clinton's strength in the state, the poll suggests John McCain would easily defeat both Democrats in November — the Arizona senator holds a 25 point advantage over Obama and a 12 point lead over Clinton. Kentucky is considered a solidly Republican state, though former President Bill Clinton carried it twice. The state's primary is May 20.

It remains unclear how Clinton's likely large wins in both states will affect the presidential race, given Obama's significant lead in total delegates. Only 28 pledged delegates are at stake in West Virginia Tuesday, while 51 are up for grabs in Kentucky.

"Clinton holds a 70 percent approval rating among West Virginia’s Democratic primary voters"

A state the keeps electing jackals like "Sheets" Byrd and Jay Rockefeller has to be pretty near worthless, so this is not really a surprise. It will be interesting to see what the media discussion is like later this week if Obama really does lose both KY and WV by 25-30% though...... will they still be ready to bury Hillary or can it keep going all the way to the convention?

....the Clinton’s are laying the groundwork for 2012...they figure when Obama loses in November they’ll say I told you so....West Va and Kentucky primaries are going to foreshadow the Obama disaster in the general election...I expect that a lot of the big shot Dems know this too...they just don’t know how to get away from Obama without Detroit/Baltimore/Philly/Cleveland/L.A./Atlanta ect. going up in flames....they’re stuck with him and they know it.

The MSM has all but held a coronation for Obama this past week. What does that say about your nominee if he's utterly obliterated in the next two primaries? I'd say some alarm bells might be going off.

Has anyone actually driven from say, Virginia to West Virginia? It’s downright scary. Unfortunately, the jokes exist about these places for a reason. And yes, it’s slowly changing, but not nearly enough, imho. It figures these states would support Clinton.

It don't matter. The filthy beast has been eliminated. The only question that remains is whether or not she will torpedo Obama and try again in 2012, or if she will accept defeat and head back to the Senate to assume a Ted Kennedy role.

Obama is the nominee, even if people here on FR can't deal with it.

I still must admit that I amazed at the reaction to an Obama nomination, and the fact that people on FREE REPUBLIC are STILL shilling for the most dangerous candidate our nation has ever faced. (Hillary!) I can't believe how many "conservatives" were hoodwinked into thinking she was/is better than Obama. Make no mistake about it, Obama is a liberal, but he is a liberal of the Jimmah Carter variety. (Bumbling and Inefficient) Hillary! is a liberal of the Adolf Hitler/Joseph Stalin variety.

When you couple the fact that Obama can't beat McCain with the above, you realize that Providence was with us when Obama elimated Hillary!

I just wish the Rushies would let it go and focus on beating Obama now rather than attempting to prop up a defeated Hitlery.

The media will just write off Kentucky and West Virginia as a bunch of racist hillbillies, so irrelevant.

Watch and see.

"Obama is the nominee, even if people here on FR can't deal with it."

You completely miss the point. Anybody who is really paying attention has known for some time that Obama will be the nominee. I have no problem "dealing" with that. What I do have a problem with is him sailing through the process without being scratched, as was occurring before the Texas primaries. The only reason why he appears beatable is because Hillary stayed alive long enough to bloody him up a bit. As soon as the Democratic Primary is wrapped up, the MSM goes back to canonizing him. Hillary was able to accomplish what we could not have hoped of.

I do not always agree with Rush and would like to see more attention to other issues than OC, but he was absolutely right in using one foe to battle another. Given that it is highly unlikely Hillary can pull out a primary win with Obama's delegate lead and the defection of super delegates to his camp, I see absolutely NO reason why any conservative should want this primary to end before the convention.

I have. My wife’s from WV. Not sure what you find scary about winding mountain roads.

What’s scary is any major US city after dark.

Is that different from driving from West Virginia to Virginia?

Oh, I know, it’s because you can almost see the crime rate decreasing. Glad I figured that out.

Why would Hillary want every state to be like West Virginia?

George Bush would not have been president without the beautiful state of West Virginia.

You could put all of West Virginia’s people living in poverty in one itsy bitsy corner of just one slum area in any large well known USA city. Try your stereotypes on those areas, we don’t really have to lock our doors to be safe in our communities.

Let me clarify, WV is a naturally beautiful state, but the distinct difference you see in the poverty level as you cross the border from VA to WV is astounding. Imho, this economic disparity makes no sense.

Fauxbama has little to no support outside of 3 small groups:

Blacks 90%+
College Students
and Limosine Liberals

He has no chance of winning a general election the Super Delegates are ensuring stupifying defeat in Nov if they make this Marxist with no clothes their candidate.
