i live in volusia county only a few miles from the 1000 acre fire burning....the interesting thing that you do not here to much about is that some of these fires began as controlled burns....no mind you, we have had no rain in awhile and temps in the low to mid 90’s and strong winds.....now i ask, whose bright idea in charge was it to have controlled burns under these conditions...??...

Thanx for the info. Fox News is calling the cause of the fires accidental.......... but no mention of the ill advised controlled burns in uncontrollable conditions.

Some is arson- some may have been result of controlled burns.

You’re getting the smoke down your way - we’re not getting it here yet- til the wind changes.

news 13 did report early this morning that some were due to controlled burns that got out of control....this happened about a month ago also if i remember correctly in brevard county....now i guess if fox is saying accidental that could be partially true since i am sure when they started the controled burns they did not mean for them to get out of control...therefore i guess you can say they are accidental....

This just in from Sentinel Staff writer Gary Taylor:

A large brush fire in the area of Valkaria in Brevard County has forced the closure of U.S. Highway 1 between Valkaria and North Rocky roads as well as Valkaria Road between U.S. 1 and Babcock Road.

U.S. 1 is closed in both directions because of fire conditions and emergency equipment in the area, Brevard County Sheriff’s Sgt. Linda Moros said. Valkaria Road is closed because of dense smoke in the area that makes travel hazardous, she said.

Some residents may be allowed to travel through the area to reach their homes, but each person’s situation will be considered.

I always wondered how they can figure out if it was arson instead of someones tailpipe igniting some brush.

Getting bad in Palm Bay- 9 major fires there and several smaller ones.

Windy, dry, not good.

They’re showing a house on WFTV right now that looks like it’s going to catch any minute- the wind is making this really tough.

I just got off flight from Turkey and talked to you-know-who on land line. (She Whose Name Is Never Mentioned on FR)

She said is VERY bad and many local residents don't “get it” yet.

Underbrush has grown back since last set of fires, plus the blowdown from hurricanes of 04

It's all George Bush's fault, of course!

Sorry Mindbender, it's been a long day and I can't read between your lines...

..WHO is 'she whose name is never mentioned on FR'...?????)

I'm north of Palm Bay and our skies are not clear but no smoke either.

The winds are bad but not as bad as yesterday.....they were fierce.

Exactly! I’ve been watching on “her” station- just a minute ago the chopper guy said he JUST saw a NEW one pop up in some woods behind a house. He was very clear it is suspicious- said it was no where near the others burning- no sparks or embers in the area..and now it’s taking off...

It’s really tough- you can tell people aren’t getting it.

We had a fire here in St Augustine yesterday right out by I-95 near the big Coquina Crossing 55+ development. I was coming back from visiting friends in Gainesville and you could smell the smoke for miles; even when I got back to downtown St A where I live, there was heavy smoke in the air.

A breeze came in this morning and blew the smoke down south (good for us, bad for you!), but it is still extremely hot and dry and we are all a little nervous. They think the fire up here was arson, too.

Incredible.

We have also been having dust storms up here because they have just harvested the potatoes and the sand is so dry that the wind is creating big clouds that blow across the roads so you can’t even see in front of you.

It reminds me of 98 (wasn’t it 98?) when Flagler County burned...dry and dusty.

- Just in- 3 firefighters have been injured.

- Major evac orders now in the Palm Bay area. The wind is bad still- 12 fires now assinged to arson.

We are heading to Disney tomorrow with the high school band. Is there any problems in that area?

I thought we were only going to have to worry about typical teenager troubles - now we have arson wildfires?

Should be no problem at Disney. These fires are over on the east coast- you’ll be inland 50 plus miles. Depending on the wind- the air may be smoky.

You’ll have a blast at Disney! :)
