Lebanon's '300'
The New Media Journal ^ | May 12, 2008 | Dr. Walid Phares

Posted on 05/12/2008 11:14:36 AM PDT by NewMediaJournal

While the West is busy living its daily life, a beast is busy killing the freedom of a small community on the East Mediterranean: Lebanon. Indeed, as of last week, the mighty Hezbollah, armed to the teeth with 30,000 rockets and missiles and aligning thousands of self described “Divine soldiers” has been marching across the capital, terrorizing its population, shutting down media, taking its politicians and the Prime Minister as hostages, and looting at will. The hordes of Lebanon’s “Khomeinist Janjaweeds” have conquered already half of the Middle East’s cultural capital, Beirut.

As I have reported before, Hezbollah has occupied West Beirut and has since sent its storm troops in multiple directions to resume the blitz.

Unstoppable, including by the Lebanese Army – Commander Michel Sleiman has allowed the slaughter to occur – the Pasdaran-founded militia is now hurdling towards the Druze Mountain and positioning its forces against the Sunni North and the Christian Mount Lebanon.

Ironically, the geographical bases of Hezbollah, in southern Lebanon, are well guarded by the United Nations Interim Forces (UNIFIL). Per a UNSCR 1701 in 2006, more than 10,000 international troops are stationed across the southern parts of Lebanon, technically protecting the 200 Shia towns and villages from where the bulk of Hezbollah fighters came from. Hence, free from guarding their own areas, a dozen thousands well trained “Hezbollahis” have marched north to join another 5,000 already based in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

But irony is that the United States and other Democracies, whose forces are present in the area and ships cruising the waters along the Eastern Mediterranean, and who have committed to fight terror around the globe may be watching these “300” falling in this epic fight. The greater irony is that these peasants of Mount Lebanon have withstood the mighty machine of Hezbollah for three days and maybe for a few more, while the standing myth internationally was that no one on Earth can defeat this Terror force.

What is wrong with the west?

Before the Soviet Sponsored Civil War in Lebanon exiled the Christian Lebanese, Beirut was known as the Paris of the Middle East.
The West only watches and whimpers while the free people are put to death.

Israel has to ratchet up and go berserk here. 59% want Olmert gone, and the charges against him will likely bring his political end soon.
With a real leadership at helm, Israel should regardless of the UN, EU and US, start to supply all anti-Hezbullah factions with infantry weapons and simultaneously eradicate "Hezbullahland" with carpet bombings. The UNIFIL should be given prior a 24h ultimatum, else they get caught up. The wrongs of the 1st Lebanese civil war and the 2006 war against Hezbullah need to be corrected permanently. No more relucatance because of "world and media" pressure.

Only Israel can bail out Lebanon's "300".

The West is sick and covers in fear at the thought of fighting Iran or its proxies.

The West will submit to Islam.

Israel isn’t going to have a real leader, it’s going to have Olmert in a skirt (Livni).

Israel has no future because its people are stupid and elect idiots.

Hezbollah is the darling of the MSM and liberals because of its anti-US and anti-Israel mandate. The MSM has a history of writing Pro-Hezbollah articles so they can gain access to their leaders for interviews. Painting them as a resistance movement, not a political movement or proxy army of Iran and Syria.

The ironic thing is, that Hezbollah stands for everything that these liberals are against. In countries that are governed by parties like Hezbollah, the liberals and intellectuals are the first to be murdered or run out of the country. Free-speech is non-existant. Islam, a religion, is the base for all laws and legislation. But for the MSM and liberals, their hated for the US and Israel trumps everything else.

The thing that really amazes me is not only that it’s getting no response from people who are watching (presumably at least the intelligence and military communities), but that the press isn’t even bothering to offer people the chance to respond. The events are being covered more in the European press, if only because Europe is geographically closer, but I doubt most Americans even know this is going on.

The reason the Druze are so poorly armed is that after the civil war most of the sides were required to disarm in order to participate in the government. And, in fact, many did, more or less.

That left a vacuum for Syria and Iran and a vehicle for their power play in Hizbollah, whose re-arming has proceeded just as fast as materiel could be poured into the area. This is, by definition, state supported terror and warfare by proxy army. Because it has allowed this to take place the West is now faced with a nasty choice of arming Hizbollah's adversaries and hence feeding the violence, or refusing to arm them and ceding a victory to Hizbollah and by extension Iran. The stakes are (1) control of Lebanon, and (2) the staging of yet more war materiel on Israel's border.

These, incidentally, are the same Iranians whose new media mantra is that they've never engaged in aggressive behavior in 250 years. Of course they have. This is simply a new phase in the War on Terror and if it is ignored that war won't go away, it will expand.

As Candor quoted today from the book Audacity of Hope:

I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.
