House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md) will testify tomorrow afternoon in an unprecedented hearing before the Select Committee investigating how the Democrats violated House rules to produce a fraudulent result on August 2, 2007.
According to a notice of hearing obtained by HUMAN EVENTS, and as explained to us by House sources, Hoyer along with Cong. Michael McNulty (D-NY) will be the first members to testify in such a hearing in the history of the Congress.
Members often testify in behalf of bills they introduce or in behalf of presidential nominees they favor (or against those they oppose). But it is only in the rarest occasion do they face potentially hostile questions, in ethics committee hearings. Tuesdays hearing before the Select Committee to Investigate the Voting Irregularities of August 2, 2007 will be the first time in the history of the House that members of Congress have faced such an inquiry and been subjected to questioning by members of the opposing party.
As I reported last October Republicans reacted with outrage at the maneuvers apparently pulled by Hoyer, acting as House leader and McNulty, who was presiding over House proceedings at the time. Republicans had made a motion to deny illegal aliens welfare benefits. When McNulty gaveled the vote to a close, the Republicans had won 214-213. Then, apparently at Hoyers direction, the vote was reopened so that Speaker Pelosi could vote, producing a tie that defeated the Republican motion.
A video of the proceedings can be seen here. In the video, the House parliamentarian apparently objected to the reopening the vote and Boss Hoyer can be heard scolding the parliamentarian, saying We run this House, not the Parliamentarians.
The resulting furor -- and the video evidence of the manipulation of the vote -- forced the Democrats to agree to formation of the Select Committee.
HUMAN EVENTS has learned that the Select Committees Republicans have produced a video -- using the original -- that details Hoyers and McNultys actions on August 2. It could be an explosive piece of evidence.
The hearings are planned for Tuesday and Wednesday. Also scheduled to testify are House Parliamentarian John Sullivan, Ethan Lauer and Max Spitzer (both of the Parliamentarians office), Kevin Hanrahan of the House Clerks office, Jerry Hartz and Caitlin ONeill (two Pelosi staffers) and Jay Pierson of the Minority Leaders office.
Under Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Hoyer, the House has become less a democratic institution than a tool of the Democrats agenda. These hearings could be a game-changer. Stay tuned.
Will C-Span be replaying footage of some anti-anything rally while this hearing goes on?
When the hearings prove that fact it should be ruled that illegals are bared from receiving welfare. This would force the RATS to vote on a bill to give welfare to the illegals before the Nov elections!
There is one sure-fire way to ensure that government is filled with liars and con-artists—just vote pro-abortion. Anyone who is dishonest enough to kill babies will be dishonest in everything else.
A historic event in the House and the MSM will be all over the Bush Administration for not having made Burma a "Favored Nation" and blaming tens upon tens of thousands of deaths on the U.S.A.
OK ... so then the RATS vote to give welfare to illegals, and solidify the support of the Hispanic community, while pi$$ing off Conservatives ... no force is needed. They do this stuff all the time.
I can’t wait to see the coverage in my local paper....
Yea, I know. The sarcasm is even tired by now.
Just read the tag line, it says it all.
Welfare for illegals isn’t a vote RATS want on their record.
The Democrats will ALWYAS win!!
Steny Hoyer, Maryland’s own...
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Heh. Spendy Horror in the hot seat.
Got to get the large size of popcorn for this.
