Wanna help planet? 'Let's all just die!' (Ueber Barf Alert)
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | May 11, 2008 | Chelsea Schilling

"May we live long and die out" is the unofficial motto of a new movement that seeks to improve the Earth's ecosystem by ensuring that the human species does not survive.

The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement, or VHEMT, consists of volunteers who have made active life decisions to remain childless for the benefit of the Earth, thereby preventing the extinction of millions of species of plants and animals.

While no one person takes credit for being the founder, Les U. Knight created its name and is the spokesperson for the movement.

"We've already exceeded Earth's carrying capacity for humans by quite a bit," Knight told WND. "We are using up our resources. The best way to stop it is by not breeding. It's really the best way because the people we don't create don't exist, and so there's no impact on them."

VHEMT activists believe a smaller population will benefit the Earth by reducing human and environmental catastrophe.

"There is no problem on the planet that would be more easily solved by adding more people," Knight said. "Everything that we like, including clean air and clean water and wilderness to go and visit, all of those will increase as there become fewer of us."

Knight said the greenest habit humans can have is to prevent creation of another member of the species, reducing humanity's ecological footprint on the Earth.

Does anyone know anything about these wackos? This is a example of what extreme environmentalism brings.

Hey, Axx-wipes: YOU FIRST!

You think there are too many humans on the planet?

Set a good example and do away with yourselves first.....

Then the rest of us can reflect upon the inspiration of your “example” and have a good laugh at fanatical envirowhackjobs like you.

They have been around for a while. To their credit, they do improve the world by not breeding and therefore extinguishing their own clearly defective genes.

GMTA! You beat me to it while I was typing my more verbose version......

This movement has serious Jim Jones potential and must be kept away from normal people - perhaps they can be exiled on a remote island and prohibited from leaving or communicating with the rest of humanity.

Definitely does sound like a parody, but there are actually plenty of envirowhackjobs who do sound like this....

“There must be several million people who have arrived at the conclusion that we would be better off without humans.”

When Knight formed the movement, he had one objective in mind:

“The ultimate goal is one I will never see,” Knight said. “I will never see the day that there are no humans on the planet.”

[... the greenest habit humans can have is to
prevent creation of another member of the species...]

Let me try to understand. It’s OK for any other
species to increase, EXCEPT humans.

Go forth and diminish. You’re doing the world a favor.

Personal information about Les U. Knight.

Watersheds: Willamette, Columbia.
Family: Human family, same as you, sister or brother, as the case may be. We now have more than six billion members.
Life’s work: To phase out the human race by non-coercive means. VHEMT’s newsletter, These EXIT Times, is now this web site, sharing and enhancing the concept of voluntary human extinction, which is constantly evolving in the world’s consciousness. These EXIT Times, your vehement voice of The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement, has been putting the mental in environmental since 1991.
Religious orientation: Eclectic. “Golden Rule” of Christianity, the Tao, and nice stuff like that.
Political orientation: Evolutionary anarchy.
Previous incarnations: I forget. Somebody dead for sure.
Accomplishment to be proud of: Became carfree in 2000.

Recent descent to the dark side: bought a car in 2007.

Favorite Les Talk column from These EXIT Times: “Man-to-Man”.
Irrelevant data: age, gender, sexual orientation, “race,” marital status, income level, body size, physical abilities and disabilities, nationality or politically-defined region of residence, ancestors’ genetic make-up, occupation, diplomas and degrees, awards, last book read, brand of scotch, ad cetera.

"They are setting an example. They are not breeding. Pay attention."

That's not good enough - if they really believe what is stated in the article then THEY are part of the problem, consuming resources and polluting, no matter how carefully they try to live. I've heard and read plenty of these sorts of whackjobs, who think humans have no 'right' to consume resources or change the planet in any way. They are on the path to the world of Jim Jones, whether they realize it now or not.

But I do now suspect this particular 'leader' is a parody, even though there are people who think this way.....

But they are not advocating that anybody kill themselves, just that people follow their own example and not reproduce. Of course, one need hardly elaborate on the errors involved in this advocacy, even accepting their motivation, but I don’t think they are being hypocritical.

Kind of like Jim Jones and his crazies set an example? Kind of like China’s one child policy set an example? Planned un-Parenthood’s slaughter of the children? Oh, we’re paying attention alright, we really are.
And we don’t call having a family “breeding”.

In fact, Japan and Europe are trending toward smaller populations in the future. Demographic trends in China and India indicate those nations will peak in terms of population around the middle of the century. And the US would be holding steady or declining in population were it not for immigration.

As people grow wealthier, they have fewer children. As capitalism brings more wealth to more people around the globe, the world's population will decline, without the help of environmentalist death cults.

I would say that many of them started out childless because they wanted to go to bars and get plastered and hook up with strangers and play Xbox instead of being mommies and daddies with all that responsibility. Then when they were too old and drug-soaked to reproduce, they decided to claim cool environmentalism.
