Hillary close to conceding
The Australian ^ | May 12, 2008 | David Nason

Posted on 05/11/2008 9:22:58 AM PDT by kingattax

NOT so long ago, the race for the Democratic presidential nomination was dominated by talk of Hillary Clinton's mental toughness and fighting qualities. One critic even referred to the former first lady's "testicular fortitude".

But at a Mother's Day function in New York yesterday, Senator Clinton's hardball approach was suddenly missing, raising speculation she is ready to abandon her campaign and cede Barack Obama the victory that everyone else knows he's won.

The shift in Senator Clinton's demeanour came on a day when Senator Obama finally took the lead in the super delegate count, leaving his rival without a single valid statistic to justify her continued candidacy.

With just a handful of primaries to go, Senator Obama leads in the four key measuring sticks - total votes cast, pledged delegates, super delegates and the number of states won.

"He (Senator Obama) leads in every important metric in this race right now," former Bill Clinton press svengali George Stephanopoulos said on Good Morning America.

"He is consolidating this victory, moving toward unifying the party, and really not looking back."

The reality of this seemed to weigh on Senator Clinton at New York's Sheraton Midtown hotel where her stump speech, delivered to an audience that included many of her closest supporters, had the feel of a farewell.

Lines like "stay with me, this is a great adventure" were still there but lacked the conviction of the recent past.

Instead, Senator Clinton spoke at length on the need for healing in the Democratic Party and avoided her past references to Senator Obama's lack of political judgment and unsuitability for the White House.

Is this what the critic was referring to?

Maybe. Another reporter could have listened to the same speech and written about her determination to forge ahead to the convention. On the other hand, Rush has now switched sides; that may be determinative.

The MSM has declared it over...all three net talk shows today, basically told her to get out...what’s gonna happen when she wins by twenty or more in W.Va? Will they say it doesn’t matter because the race was over on Sunday?

That’s my guess.

If the GOP had run a real conservative this time, Barry would have gone down forty-seven states to three...instead we have McCain...he’s promising “action” on Global Warming.

What a shame.

i never thought I’d be such a huge Hillary fan, speaking of Operation Chaos, that is...

if I were a Rat in Florida or Michigan, I’d be fit to be tied unless they immediately agreed to seat the delegates, that conduct is a slap to the very name of the party....

nuclear option now....

There is no 2012.

I disagree.

There's a good chance that McCain would not run for reelection in 2012 due to his age and health.

Look for Hillary to be the one to sabotage Obama's campaign with the "October Surprise" that she is already talking about.

If you all would get OUT of this corrupt "Two-Party Cartel" & nominate someone who would actually represent you, we wouldn't be as a nation in this situation. The bad news is that it will get worse in the next go around & the next until it will be too late to change.

I disagree. He would be VERY smart to put his or his wife's ego aside and go there.
All of this talk about clintons and knives and deaths is all very childish.

Politics is played by real people in the real here and now where winning is everything and losing is just losing.

Hillary would be a huge asset in the General, she will bring those bitter white people with her and that ticket would be one that stands the very best chance in November.

And that is how you win. - We shall see how smart Obama is in short order.

I didn’t say that.

You need to think of Bill Clinton in the spot now occupied by Lynn Cheney, and formerly by Tipper Gore.

Put Bill Clinton in that role and there’s plenty of room for mischief to Obama’s deep and ongoing regret.

I don’t know if the Beest can ever concede, and I think that maybe she was very, very tired when she gave this speech, and it just sounded concilatory. She probably went home, Huma plugged her in to the battery charger, and she’ll be back at full strength to take this thing to convention!

She's not getting out of it until Obama has been fully undermined and damaged so badly that he cannot win, clearing the way for her to ride to the rescue with a hearty "Told You So" in 4 fours.

Two years, actually.
That's when it'll all start up again.

I wonder if she'll get Primary'ed for her sins.

It’s certainly a lot worse than it used to be. Especially when cable brought us the 24 hour news channels. At least before then we didn’t have idiots spending an hour debating whether or not a president’s wife should divorce him (as if their decision was binding) or openly fabricating evidence against innocent young men being prosecuted for a rape that never happened. And I don’t remember too many commentators getting feelings running down their leg. When I was a kid we had a joke about that involving the alphabet, but I digress....

Nothing’s perfect. There have been agendas since the beginning of time. But there was a time when we could at least watch the news & decide for ourselves & separate fact from fiction. We can’t even do that now. They’re all liars. Our country is changing & it’s not a good one. Frankly I’d rather go back to those days. Not perfect but better than this.

I’ll believe the Beast’s concession when I see it. I halfway expect on Inauguration Day to see her rush the stage claiming it’s hers because it’s her destiny. Then they will have to drag her off the stage.

But I hope she does concede and just...goes...away.

McCain promising not to run in 2012 wouldn't be a bad 2008 campaign promise on the face of it. His reason might be that two-term Presidents rarely get much done in their second terms, which is also a truism.

The GOP had conservative candidates step up. The people chose something else.

Thompson, Hunter, Romney (some issues anyway and even Huck had conservative positions. At what point will people acknowledge that the conservatives are not as strong as first thought and the failures of Bush and the Republicans 2002-2006 have alienated a lot of people. There isn’t much outside WOT for people to really go out and support Republicans.
