BAGHDAD Staff Sgt. Luis Falcon , 38, was patrolling the streets of Baqouba , north of Baghdad , when he saw Shahad Abbas . The 11-year-old girl was in a large decrepit wheelchair, and the stumps of her legs where her calves should have been were crusted with dried blood.
Falcon couldn't just walk on, so he stopped to talk. He came back the next day and the day after that, then every day for six months, bringing her toys, gauze for her legs, a new wheelchair. Anything she asked for he would bring

“In a war that Falcon no longer really understood, Shahad became his mission. So when she asked for legs, that became his mission, too.”

Nice story, but it’s there too, wherever they can sneak it in.
its is a hit peace but we all know this
at least someone got helped out
they cant help but smear
I have to ask...will this girl be killed by her family for interacting with an infidel man? Does this contact not ‘shame’ them.
I’m sorry to sound so cruel, but are our soldiers social engineers? Muslims do not value life, and they certainly do not value females. Our humanitarian sympathy is being wasted,IMO.
Rubbish. Sorry, yes you sound cruel. Humanity is never wasted. We are not “handing out legs” because it earns us something, but because we (or better said our heroic soldiers) are better than the terrorists and hypocrites in the West.
Your post is the most redundant I have encountered today.
My goodness! The ability of some to find cynicism and hatred in such a heartwarming story!!
If you can’t say something nice on a story like this, why don’t you just avoid the thread instead of adding your 2 cents of worthless garbage?
Ping for your list?
Hero with Heart, then... aren’t they all.
The girl would probably have a different opinion.
Of course, the media can’t report it without working a dig at the war, but that doesn’t mean the soldier’s effort was wasted.
The Enemedia enjoys sticking the knife in the back of a good story whenever they can, don’t they? Too bad some folks around here enjoy helping them out! LOL Our troops definitely, without a doubt, ROCK!
Humanitarian sympathy is never wasted. This is what separates caring human beings from the animals.
Oh, for crying out loud. The majority of Iraqis are not like that. That behavior is reserved for the Iran-backed extremists and al Qaeda hardliners.
What if the world judged all Americans on things like this? Or this (Just a couple of things from yesterday's news.)
I see validity in both your posts. Would that the world were different.
It is my OPINION, and I don’t recall seeing any rules regarding posting only positive opinions on everything.I knew when I posted most would be angry, but I read many posts that make me angry. I don’t try to shut the posters up.
I’ll say no more on the subject, but I somehow don’t think I am the only American who feels this way.
“Muslims do not value life, and they certainly do not value females.”
In Muslim nations like Iraq and Turkey, murder is a violation of national law, both have universal suffrage, and both have female politicians. Take your ignorance elsewhere.
My opinion will remain where it is.
A military of social workers will not win a war or protect us from enemies who bomb and behead and want the entire world Islamic. Do you really think any Muslim believes his religion less, or will disobey it re. ‘infidels’ because an infidel gives someone he knows medicine or food?
All the magic thinking and Kumbaya singing isn’t going to change Islam. Send the Peace Corps for the ‘innocents’, send ‘can’t we all just get along’ social workers who think they can make a difference, fill planes with socially tender humanitarians ready to ‘wuv’ everyone and hand out sports equipment and flowers.Join them! Volunteer, start a ‘Save Iraqui Kids’ campaign!
That’s NOT what armies are for.
“A military of social workers will not win a war or protect us from enemies who bomb and behead and want the entire world Islamic.”
It sounds as though you are attempting to denigrate this staff sargent as you refer to him as a social worker. The article clearly states that he was patroling the streets of Baqouba. He patrols the steets of Iraq, you mischaraterize his job in a disdainful fashion as you hide behind your keyboard.
“Do you really think any Muslim believes his religion less, or will disobey it re. infidels because an infidel gives someone he knows medicine or food?”
Not all Muslims subscribe your’s and al-qaeda’s radical interpretation of Islam, where associating with westerners is forbidden.
“send cant we all just get along social workers who think they can make a difference”
Another smear on the U.S. military. Our military has been capturing/killing Islamic radicals by the thousands.
“Thats NOT what armies are for.”
We handed out gifts to German kids when we liberated Germany from Nazi rule. In your effort to paint all Muslims as radical terrorists, you foolishly equate an 11 year old girl, who was injured by a road-side bomb, as being no different that the terrorists.
