If Michelle Obama is next first lady ...
The Chicago Sun-Times ^ | May 10, 2008 | Lynn Sweet

Posted on 05/10/2008 1:26:31 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

CHICAGO -- Michelle Obama gave a hint of what her portfolio may be if she becomes first lady at a fund-raiser Friday for Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.). Former CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson -- of Plamegate fame -- who has been stumping for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) -- was also a featured speaker.

Obama suggested that if she were to become first lady, she would take on women's and family issues, prompted by the stories she has been hearing from females on the campaign trail.

"And if I have the honor of becoming the next first lady, I want to continue these conversations like the ones I've had with these incredible women across the country. I want to ensure that their voices don't get drowned out ever again in Washington."

Michelle Obama's mention of her role as first lady comes as Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has all but secured the Democratic nomination while Clinton struggles to keep her campaign afloat. On Friday, Sen. Obama for the first time pulled even with Clinton in the superdelegate count -- he gained nine party leaders and elected officials compared with two who came out for Clinton.

Meanwhile, over at the Obama national headquarters on Michigan Avenue, the push to convert undeclared superdelagates into the Obama corner was turned up a notch as a group of state party chairs were brought to the home office for presentations to get them off the fence.

When I last saw Plame in March, she was with her husband, former Ambassador Joe Wilson, at a press conference in Philadelphia with Clinton, where they touted her national security credentials. When I last did a column about Michelle Obama in a solo appearance, she was in Haverford, Pa., just before the April Pennsylvania primary trying to counter charges her husband was an elitist by talking about her hardscrabble youth and troubles paying off college loans.

But the partisanship was subdued at the fund-raiser for Schakowsky, a national co-chairwoman of Obama's campaign, who filled a giant ballroom at McCormick Place with about 1,800 backers, mostly women; this annual event is billed as a women's "Power Lunch."

Plame's identity was outed by Chicago Sun-Times columnist Robert Novak in 2003 following Wilson raising questions about whether the Bush White House bloated claims that helped clear the way for the U.S. to invade Iraq.

Plame told reporters that a reason she is with Clinton is "because in the darkest days of the story of the last five years it was Sen. Clinton who reached out to us on a personal basis and gave us her support. So we feel a deep sense of loyalty for that." Plame and Wilson are in a new ad Clinton is running in Oregon.

I'm used to seeing Michelle deliver stemwinders -- she can be fierce, persuasive, charming, mocking and sarcastic -- but on Friday she was businesslike and read from a text, sort of first lady like. It also made political sense since the crowd included Clinton backers.

The family campaigned together last weekend in Indiana and Obama recalled, "At one point someone asked Malia, our older daughter, what she enjoyed most about the weekend and she said, 'being with my dad,' and it nearly broke my heart."

Obama recalled, "At one point someone asked Malia, our older daughter, what she enjoyed most about the weekend and she said, 'being with my dad,' and it nearly broke my heart."

Michelle is such a whiner. Not enough money for piano lessons, experiences racism every waking minute of the day, lives in a country where she's never proud, and now Malia doesn't have enough time with daddy. Always the martyr.

I hate to say this... but, just the thought of her being the first lady of this country is what might convince me to vote forMcCain.

Very sad indeed, this election

It’s come down to the choice between the black racist anti-America ball-busting wife or the drug-stealing daughter-of-the-mafia-don wife. Whatta choice! Assuming he’s married, I’ll stick with Rev. Chuck Baldwin, the only true conservative in the race (even more conservative than Fred, Tom and Duncan).

Rev. Chuck Baldwin, The CP’s nominee, is married with three children. His wife is the former Miss Connie Kay Cole. They were married in 1973.

Really, 2nd Div Vet! I didn’t know that. Can you tell me how that is possible?

I’ll tell you the only way that is possible. A vote for a third party candidate is a vote taken away from your man McLame ONLY IF such a voter was inclined to vote for McLame in the first place. An anti-Invasion Indy con like me who has had no use for McAmnesty for 25 years (that McJerk’s been in Congress) is no more “a vote for Obama” than a vote for my pet. In other words, I wasn’t going to vote for McQueeg under ANY circumstances, so my voting third party isn’t “a vote for Obama”! It’s simply a vote that McPsycho NEVER HAD IN THE FIRST PLACE (I didn’t vote for him in his other two tries for President, either). This subject is worthy of its own thread (coming up).

If this doesn’t make sense, there’s no hope for you. Just put me in the “20% of freepers solidly against McNasty” category...

Just an observation of your post; I am going to go out on a limb here and assume that you are a Republican or a Conservative, and beleve me I completely share your frustration with this election, but, you refer to our (ehem nominee) as : "McLame, McAmnesty, McJerk, McQueeg, McPsycho, McNasty (did I miss any) yet you kindly give due respect to Obama (notice the spelling) twice.

Just wondering...........

I believe she might manage three of those, the other two are totally out of her range, it takes a fool to see her as persuasive or charming.

It's a free country: You are certainly welcome to go into the sanctity of the voting booth and vote third party or write-in Daffy Duck or even Ron Paul. Don't come crying to me a year from now because of your taxes going up to pay for reparations, Muslim indoctrination in your kid's schools, and the martial law that President Obama declared after the gun confiscation riots.

For those who love to say that they're staying home in November, because there's not a dime's worth of difference between the Democrats and Republicans, just consider this fact. The next President will have the opportunity to nominate two and possibly even three Supreme Court justices.

In fact, if the Democrats win the White House, there are already two justices who would like to retire, but didn't want to do who while George W. Bush was President. Just imagine the political inclination of ANY justice nominated by Her Heinous, or by Obama, with his wife cheering him on with her 'women's issues' attitude.

Your principled third party vote WILL allow the Democrat to take the White House, no matter how you want to spin it.

In 1992, many chose that way, because they didn't see X42 as any sort of threat, and we'd come through the Cold War victorious. Their attitude, because they were mad at G.H.W. Bush was, "well it can't get any worse."

Unfortunately, it did, because it was X42's actions that convinced Osama bin Laden that we'd never stick with any fight we began, so he and his al Queda buddies started attacking their enemies, including us, in the Middle East, here in NYC with the World Trade Center bombing in 1993, and culminating with the attacks on 9/11. Frankly, I don't want that happening again, and it certainly WILL if either of the Democrats gets into the White House, because they will be perceived as being 'soft' on terrorists, based on the comments they've been making about the War on Terror, so far.

“There was no doubt in my mind that as a member of
the black community, I am obligated to this
community and will utilize all of my present and
future resources to benefit the black community
first and foremost. “
...no doubt.

The fact that this was a sanitized, carefully-vetted announcement helps convince me that this promise to play a traditional tea-and-crumpets first lady is utterly bogus.

Michelle Vetoes Hillary Robert D. Novak Saturday, May 10, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Close-in supporters of Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign are convinced he never will offer the vice presidential nomination to Sen. Hillary Clinton for one overriding reason: Michelle Obama.

The Democratic front-runner's wife did not comment on other rival candidates for the party's nomination, but she has been sniping at Clinton since last summer. According to Obama sources, those public utterances do not reveal the extent of her hostility.

A footnote: Support is growing in Democratic ranks for Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland as vice president. He would bring to the ticket maturity (66 years old), experience (six terms in Congress) and moderation (rated "A" by the National Rifle Association). He is very popular in Ohio, a state Republicans must carry to elect a president. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/RobertDNovak/2008/05/10/michelle_vetoes_hillary&Comments=true

Only in her wildest dreams... Jane Austen was a true feminist of her times (much like Ann Coulter or Laura Inghram or Michelle Malkin). Michelle Obama is definitely no lady, she reminds me a lot of Conyer's wife.
