I pose a question to all FReepers and lurkers:
Has Barack Obama ever done anything in his life to suggest that he genuinely loves America?
This is a question to which I don't have an answer. If there's something special or remarkable in Obama's record that demonstrates that he has a real love for America, I'd be interested in hearing about it.
I take it to be clear that such a question need not be asked about John McCain. I take it also to be fairly clear what the answer would be if the question were asked about Michelle Obama or Jeremiah Wright...

Love for America? In what time frame? I would think, if willing to go back far enough into the record, he probably served jury duty. He probably recuses himself these days though.
Obama is like Che Guevera—a photogenic figure who has done little, but has a messianic appeal. It also helps that he is a minority. Unfortunately, the electorate has been sufficiently brainwashed that the facts don’t appear to matter.
If he is elected, I can only hope the Office of the President can somehow transform him into more than he currently is. It could happen.
Why he's running for President and sharing his magnificence with us. He's going to bring us socialism and put all Americans in his safety net. He's going to withdraw all the troops from Iraq to make us safer? He's questioning authority and going to show us how to change our "mindset"? What could show love for America more than that? /sarc I expect that's how a liberal would answer that question and I expect that's how they really feeeeeel about it. America is in denial right now and it's going to last for a couple of years.

Hmmmm, if he refused jury duty, he could be punished, so jury duty probably doesn't qualify as an indicator of love of America.

Well, just look at the money he's even recently donated to charity! I believe it's been credibly reported that he gave over $20,000 to a church that was hip-deep in community help activities.
We're going to guess he took a tax deduction for that, fancifully imagining they qualified by virtue of their non-political advocacies.
Oops. I guess we'll have to re-think some of that, given that we're talking about TUCC. Just how is it they've been able to avoid scrutiny for their politics-from-the-pulpit? Oh, yeah, that only applies to religious organizations that could be construed to be helping the Republicans! Silly me.

One should never forget that the policy of TUCC is not to require practicing Muslims to set aside their faith become full-fledged members of TUCC. Even if might be true that BHO was baptized into something, I don't believe it was a proper Christian baptism, given the copious evidence we've seen and heard from TUCC and Wright.

Well, you got me there. I was trying to help, digging down REALLY deep for any rationale. I failed.
Why?
And yet ... if you're born in Hawaii and a graduate of Harvard Law School, you don't have to go and live and work on the South Side of Chicago. You'd have a lot of other opportunities in more attractive areas. So it was for love of something -- or at least something other than desire for money -- that took Obama to Chicago.
Obviously, Obama's political ambitions had something to do with his choices. There are a lot of African-Americans in Chicago. But Obama did have other options, and his ambition doesn't seem as naked as Bill Richardson's in moving to the most Hispanic state in the country to make a career.
But it's a generational thing. Maybe a class thing, too. If you're older (or younger) than Barack Obama, you may be outraged that he didn't serve in the military, but he's pretty typical of Ivy-league graduates who came of age in the 1980s.
I hope a reporter asks Obama which state is his favorite out of all the 57 states.
At the age of 10 he chose to stay in Hawaii to go to school rather than returning with his mother to Indonesia.
