JERUSALEM — The overwhelming view in Israel on Friday, just hours after Prime Minister Ehud Olmert declared his innocence in a bribery investigation involving a Long Island businessman, was that the post-Olmert political era had already begun. Skip to next paragraph Multimedia

Calls for his resignation came from left, right and center, although all acknowledged that Mr. Olmert had won himself time by vowing, as he did Thursday night, to resign if charged. The investigation is likely to take another month or two.

You and I both would like to see Bibi but many Israelis are passivist and want only to trade anything for “peace”. You and I know that the mooselimbs care not for peace, only for the destruction of Israel.
I believe if Olmert the appeasing lawyer falls some other turd will take his place.

Agree, with the current events in Beirut as well as the pressures to divide Jerusalem and the nasty stuff going on in Gaza, two months of weakness in this critical position is too long.

Ehud Olmert has always been good at buying time. His dilatory tactic may result in the investigation finding nothing. So he's likely to continue in office unless there is an indictment down the road. The one thing he won't do is voluntarily step down.
