HARTFORD, Conn.: A man alleges that police entered his home illegally and ripped a catheter from his body during a child pornography investigation that led to the arrest of two neighbors.
Andrew Glover, 60, of New Britain filed a notice with the city Thursday that he intends to pursue a federal civil rights lawsuit. He accused the officers of inflicting severe injuries as he was recovering from intestinal surgery in February.
Glover's lawyer, Paul Spinella, said police entered Glover's apartment Jan. 30 and Feb. 28. Glover wasn't involved in child pornography, has not been charged and has no criminal record, Spinella said.

Thugs.
It would seem that in trying to keep us safe, we are becoming less safe?
I noticed that there is an increase of incidences involving cops abusing citizens or making very bad decisions. Is this a trend or the media is doing a better job of reporting?
Well he was a Conn man............
I hope the unfortunate victim recovers and, if the cops went over the line, recovers damages.
There seems to be more of this happening in recent years.
Jeez, that’s... sacred
You just don’t do stuff like that.
DING!

Wow, 12 posts and the ‘defend cops at any cost’ crowd hasn’t even shown up to claim the guy waved his catheter at the police in a threatening manner.
We’ve never had such a high percentage of our population in prison, it seems like we’re taking more wheat out with the chaff.
I have stories going back to 1987.
A post like this in 1998 could get you flamed to ashes.
Weird, isn't it? I was beginning to think this thread was somehow rigged with like-minded plants.
Another reason that Im glad to be old and off this planet soon. I dont wont to be around when all this Black shirted, Swat, militarized police thuggery comes to full bloom. I realize that, because of the times and morality of these days, they are needed. However, this same argument was preached in Germany during the 30s and 40s of the last century. God help us.
“I wonder if it would have been legal to shoot the trespassing officers in self-defense.”
I suppose after the police put about 87 bullets into you in retaliation, there might be some discussion about that.
I’m surprised they didn’t taze the poor bastard.
ripped a catheter from his body
The more I think about this, the more I want Connecticut to go bankrupt trying to pay this man off.
I hate the way this works - the guilty parties will not pay the bulk of the settlement. The innocent taxpayers will. This sort of conduct ought to cost more than a job (or a demotion or temporary suspension with or without pay).
Libertarian ping! To be added or removed freepmail me or post a message here.

Here here ...I’m 55 ...and residing in Japan ...and am so saddened by what has become of my country ...Now we have McCain , Obama and Hilary ...one of which will become POTUS ...We’re finished . The end must be near .
I don’t know. Maybe he had it coming and deserved it.
Yea, could have been drugs up there in his bladder, can’t know unless you check... :)
It could be true, but I tend to be cautious when the source for the bulk of the info is a plaintiff’s attorney.
Nahh don't be so pessimistic. Remember, "it is darkest before the dawn."
Its for the good of the children didn’t you know? Anything that might help children trumps all other rights.
Hmm, maybe we should re-write the constitution. The first amendment should be; Congress shall make no law limiting the governments protection of children.
Legal? Well, maybe. I don't know. You'd probably never live to find out if it was or not.
It is never wise to shoot at the police.
Sadly at one time one might err on the side of not believing the attorney of those claiming police misconduct. I fear we were wrong then. I know in recent years that would be a mistake.
Each story is different. The Rodney King tape was editted and he required more force be used against him. But the recent Philly tape is inexcusable. These attacks on people in their own homes are inexcusable. The Supreme Court made a serious error in allowing these breaking and entering searches due to drug cases.
Yep.
And if the cops come kicking in your door on a child porn investigation, prepare to have all your computers and cameras seized. Oh, and your name and face will probably be on the news. Have fun explaining that one to your friends and co-workers.
And when they don't find anything on your computers, you'll probably be accused of destroying the evidence or somehow encrypting it. Even if it was a complete, "Oops! We totally have the wrong guy" scenario, good luck on getting your computer back any time soon, if ever. Not that it matters since it probably no longer works. And that retraction in the media is going to be awfully small. Hopefully your friends and co-workers read about it.
I’ve known dirty cops, and I’ve known exemplary cops. So I don’t rush to judgment either way, but I’m not surprised however it turns out.
Unless you can shoot better and straighter... which, by all estimates, wouldn’t be all that difficult, as most cops do not know how to shoot properly. Most practice the old “spray and pray” method of shooting. As witness the huge numbers of rounds sent downrange by these moronic coppers versus the minuscule number of actual hits on their victims.
Of course one can only pray that the next misguided no-knock raid would take place against an armed combat veteran. A few of those and this illegitimate barbra streisand would stop in a heartbeat.
IMHO the WHOLE thing - both sides - has departed for the planet Glorch and left entirely the sphere of reason.
Basstard was prolly smoking...
I think there were reruns of “Dirty Harry” on syndication last night.
I think that your JBTs haven’t charged him with anything after 10 weeks means something
They are probably off making hoax phone calls so the cops without probable cause can get warrants...for everyone's good...to protect the children, you know.
The police didn't have search warrants, Spinella said.
Try to explain a DWI / DUI, whatever that means.
“I hope the unfortunate victim recovers and, if the cops went over the line, recovers damages.”
IF the cops went over the line? They didn’t have a warrant for starters. Next they ripped a guys catheter out. What possible reason would there be to do that? What would it take for you to say they actually did cross the ‘line’?
“They are probably off making hoax phone calls “

There have been persecutions...I mean, prosecutions...of people who have received images in e-mail and have deleted them, but the images remained in deleted form.
I recall wondering what exactly the recipient of unsolicieted illegal images was supposed to do! To keep them is illegal possession, but to delete them was destruction of evidence of illegal possession!

Did the cops sell his catheter at auction?
IMO its about power and has nothing to do with the actual crimes anymore. Law Enforcement wants bigger weapons and more power. For nothing to be done to these cops is a travesty but not a surprise.
