Acting chief of Mexico's federal police shot dead in capital (Note To Open Borders Crowd)
SIGN ON SAN DIEGO UNION TRIBUNE ^ | May 8, 2008 | E. Eduardo Castillo

MEXICO CITY – Mexico's acting federal police chief was shot dead early Thursday outside his home – a brazen attack as drug traffickers increasingly lash back at a nationwide crackdown on organized crime. Edgar Millan Gomez was shot 10 times after opening the door to his Mexico City apartment complex, where at least one gunman was waiting for him before dawn, the Public Safety Department said. Two bodyguards were also wounded. Millan died hours later at a hospital. SNIP Garza urged U.S. lawmakers to approve the Merida Initiative, a US$500 million (euro326 million) proposal that would help fight drug crime in Mexico. He called the package “critical” to “our joint fight against these criminals.”

Mexico has suffered a wave of organized crime and drug-related violence, in which more than 2,500 people died last year alone. SNIP Cartels have responded fiercely to the nationwide offensive, killing soldiers and federal police in unprecedented attacks. Until recently, most of those killings took place in northern Mexico, where drug gangs rule large areas. Now, criminals appear to be getting more brash with slayings in the capital.

George Grayson, a Mexico expert at the College of William & Mary in Virginia, said Millan's death “shows the increasing audacity of the cartels SNIP Millan was the second top Mexican police official killed in less than a week in Mexico City, following the May 2 killing of a federal police intelligence analyst in an apparent armed robbery attempt outside his home.

I lived through a lot of this drug cartel crap down in South America.

When a strong conservative was elected to president of Colombia the drug cartels moved to Mexico.

Only a fool would believe that these people will not bring this brand of terror to your community.

It's time to shut down the border.

Some bodyguards - they should have gone thru the door first and cleared the area before he even got within sight of said door.

How ‘bout some help fighting drug crime here!????

When our Pacific NW sheriffs try to get help from the feds to fight armed Mexican drug cartels in our parks and forests, they are told it is NOT the business of DHS.

Mexico is our enemy. And most of our government seems to be in collusion with them.

John McCain even worked to defeat Prop. 200 in Arizona, his own state. A law held up on appeal, btw.

I guess the Mexicans need to watch some Untouchables reruns.
You can’t let the crooks get away with shooting the police.

The bodyguards were probably on drugs, or paid off, or his nephews or something. Mexico has a real war on drugs, and we should either join them or mediate a ceasefire.

I was told by CBP today that there have been more murders in Juarez this week, and today murder/s in Palomas, Mexico. Funny thing is our governor just said a few days ago the the U.S. should “take another look at the situation where tourists are given warnings that going to Mexico is dangerous” while he was giving Mexican officials a butt kissing.

I agree Mexico has a little war going on, but many here aren't real sure which side is the good guys and which side is the bad guys. I think we should just build a major fence and let them sort it all out for themselves.

Yep. Send the illegals home and end the War on Drugs.

I’m sorry you are saddled with Bill Richardson. New Mexico (at least what I could see from I-40) is a beautiful state. If Bill is going to put up with illegals, he ought to allow oil development in his state so that some of them can at least be put to work.
