Democrats in Colorado's congressional delegation who've yet to pledge their superdelegate vote stayed uncommitted Wednesday after the latest primaries.
"I don't think it's up to the superdelegates to make a decision," said Rep. John Salazar, a Manassa Democrat. "It's up to the people of this country."
Salazar; his brother, Sen. Ken Salazar; and Rep. Mark Udall of Eldorado Springs haven't picked between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama. All three said they want to wait until after the final primary on June 3.
Mathematically, it's almost impossible for either Obama or Clinton to reach the number of needed delegates for the nomination without the superdelegates.
Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper said in March that the close primary race was hurting fundraising for the Democratic National Convention to be held in the city in August because private donors like to know who the nominee will be. Denver's host committee was $5 million short of a March deadline to raise $28 million.
The mayor was traveling Wednesday to Minnesota with host committee chief executive Mike Dino in hopes of raising money.
"It's true," Ken Salazar said of the slowed fundraising efforts. But of all the factors he's considering in whether to back a candidate, Salazar said, "the issue of money for the Denver convention is not one."
Rep. Ed Perlmutter, a Golden Democrat who's pledged his vote to Obama, said he's trying to pressure other Democrats to make a decision.
"I'm saying either help us get this done or help us raise the money for the convention," Perlmutter said.
Salazar received phone calls Wednesday from surrogates of both candidates. He was not invited to meet with Clinton, who was in town Wednesday talking to superdelegates, or Obama, who will be in town today for the same reason.
Salazar said that he wanted a presumptive nominee chosen by June.
"I don't want this thing to go to the convention," he said. If forced to pick, Salazar said, his decision will be based on "who can win."
Rep. Diana DeGette, a Clinton supporter, declined repeated requests to talk about Tuesday's primary results and whether she believes Clinton should stay in the race.
May hillary stay in and continue to bruise obama until there is no hope for a combined ticket.
If you believe Obama’s own count on his website, and out of remaining 217 available pledge delegates you assume Hillary takes 117, she would end up needing 82% of the remaining Suepers.
Consider this - in States that Obama kicked the snot out of Hildabeast, most of the Supers haven’t comitted.
Would anyone reasonably believe that Supers from States like North Carolina, Virgina, Georgia, Maryland, Louisiana, Mississippi, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Idaho, Utah, Dakotas, Hawaii, ILLINOIS, and the list goes on.....will abandon Obama?
The ONLY reason Supers have not declared a winner is because they know Klintons will then have an excuse to destroy the Demcorat party. They are still doing it, but not overtly. They are still planning and plotting for either VP+RON-BROWN move or 2012. However, if they were pushed out of the door before June 3rd, they will do everything in their power to wreck the party.
June 5th this ends. Obama will sweep Dakota and Montana, and pressure would be on the Supers to not prolong it any further. Guranteed.
“I don’t think it’s up to the superdelegates to make a decision,” said Rep. John Salazar, a Manassa Democrat. “It’s up to the people of this country.”
that’s a cop out by a dishonest person.
We are witnessing Animal Farm Democrats. Everyone is equal but some are more equal than others.
I’m guessing the donkey will be replaced by a pig any day now.
How many FBI files does HRC have on them?
Will any clinton be allowed to speak on stage at the DNC in August?
The only thing that ends on June 5th is primary voting. After that the credentials committee meets to move the goalposts; then the Clinton smear machine goes in high gear until the state roll call in Denver.
Odds are BillJeff & Michele Obama will give back to back appeals to the delegates on who to vote for. Lol -guess who wins that match up.
The Denver Post “forgot” to mention that the DNC is woefully short of funds for convention/security, but Colorado taxpayers will now foot the difference. I have to pay for violent and smelly protestors trashing my city. This is WAR, people.
